RECENT US DATA SHOWS NEARLY 900 CHILDREN ON AN ANNUAL BASIS DIE FROM DROWNING AND SORRY ANNUALLY, AND THE CDC DATA DOES SHOW THAT DROWNING IS OFTEN QUICK AND SILENT, WHICH IS WHY THAT ACTIVE SUPERVISION IS VERY IMPORTANT. WE'RE GOING TO NARROW IT DOWN TO TEXAS FOR CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 19. IN 2025, 88 CHILDREN DROWNED IN TEXAS. UNFORTUNATELY, CURRENTLY IN 2026, THERE HAVE BEEN 21 CHILD DROWNINGS. AND THAT WAS BASED OFF OF LAST WEEK OR TWO WEEKS AGO AND CAN BE UPDATED IF IF NEEDED. OF COURSE, WE DON'T WANT THAT, BUT FORT BEND COUNTY AND HARRIS COUNTY EACH HAVE THREE OF THESE RECORDED DROWNINGS TOTALING SIX AS OF APRIL OF 2026. DROWNINGS CAN HAPPEN IN ALMOST ANY AMOUNT OF WATER, SO THAT DOES INCLUDE POOLS, BATHTUBS, EVEN BUCKETS OF WATER. YOU MIGHT THINK, WHY WOULD I NEED A BUCKET OF WATER? SO THERE'S A LOT OF CONTROVERSY ABOUT FORT BEND ISD WAS ONE OF THE 11 SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT SPECIFICALLY HAD AN INJUNCTION IN PLACE. THE FIFTH CIRCUIT LIFTED THE INJUNCTION. SO NOW, I GUESS FORT BEND ISD IS TRYING TO DEAL WITH HOW TO COMPLY, EVEN THOUGH, YOU KNOW, THERE'S THIS THING CALLED SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE FEDERAL LAW, OVERCOMING STATE LAW. AND JUST A LITTLE RECAP WE WENT OVER THIS LAST TIME, BUT TO CLOSE OUT OUR SCHOOL YEAR IN MAY, IT WAS MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH. SO PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU TAKE ONE OF THE LITTLE GREEN DUCKS OVER THERE. THERE'S ONE FOR YOU AND FOR US TO TAKE WITH YOU. IT WAS ALSO FOOD ALLERGY AWARENESS MONTH. NATIONAL PE AND SPORT WEEK WAS THE FIRST WEEK IN MAY THAT WE HAD OUR SCHOOL LUNCH HERO DAY, CELEBRATING ALL OF OUR WONDERFUL STAFF THAT HELPS KEEP OUR STUDENTS FED AND ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS THEY DO, BECAUSE THEY REALLY ARE UNSUNG HEROES IN THAT. IN THE CAFETERIA FOR THAT, WE HAD NATIONAL BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY, THE NURSE APPRECIATION WEEK AND OUR DAY, AND THEN MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST DAY. AND THEN OF COURSE, FRIDAY WHERE GREEN IT'S OUR MENTAL HEALTH DAY. SO, SO PUTTING AWARENESS FOR THAT. WE ALSO HAVE FUNDRAISER. THE CHILD NUTRITION DEPARTMENT DOES THIS. THERE'S A SCHOLARSHIP FUNDRAISER IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. AND I BELIEVE THEY BROUGHT SOME SUSAN'S HERE AND THEY BROUGHT SOME OF THESE BAGS.IF YOU WERE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING ONE ONE'S ONE FOR 15 AND TWO FOR 25. SO AGAIN, THIS IS ALL PART OF THEIR SCHOLARSHIP. SO SUPPORT FORT BEND ISD STUDENTS. AND AS OF RIGHT NOW YOU'RE TAKING CASH OR CHECKS FOR THOSE. CORRECT. WOULD YOU LIKE TO SPEAK A LITTLE BIT MORE TOWARDS THAT YOU LIKE OR HOLD THEM? GO AHEAD. SCHOLARSHIP THAT WE DO EVERY YEAR. SO WE NOMINATE, WE HAVE 1 OR 2 STUDENTS AT EVERY HIGH SCHOOL THAT APPLY. WE HAVE MULTIPLE THAT APPLY, BUT 1 OR 2 STUDENTS USUALLY GET SELECTED AND THEN GET THE SCHOLARSHIP FOR THEIR COLLEGE AND FUTURE ENDEAVORS. SO THIS YEAR WE HAD ONE AT EVERY HIGH SCHOOL. AND OUR GOAL IS TO RAISE MONEY SO THAT WE CAN PROVIDE MORE THAN ONE FOR EVERY HIGH SCHOOL FOR THE NEXT AND UPCOMING YEARS. SO IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO PURCHASE THEM, I HAVE THEM IN THE BACK AND WE DO TAKE CHECKS AND CASH. YEAH. ARE THEY CUTE? EVERYONE CAN USE ANOTHER BAG, RIGHT? YES.

AND THEY ARE STUDENT LEADERSHIP GROUP AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL. AND THEY ARE ADVISORY TO YOU ALL. AND WHEN THEY'RE HERE, THEY MEET IN THE SUBCOMMITTEES. THEY ALSO DO SOME BRAIN BREAKS AND THINGS WITH US, BUT IT'S SO GREAT TO HEAR THEIR VOICES. SO LAST YEAR, OUR 2526 COHORT TOTAL APPLICATIONS RECEIVED. WE HAD 60 AND TEN OF OUR CAMPUSES WERE REPRESENTATIVE REPRESENTED, AND THAT WAS UP FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. SO THAT WAS MY GOAL WAS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF CAMPUSES REPRESENTATIVE. AND THEN AS OF NOW, WE'VE RECEIVED 71 APPLICATIONS AND ALL CAMPUSES HAVE BEEN REPRESENTED. SO I'M SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THAT. WE HAVE ABOUT WE HAVE FOUR STUDENTS THAT REPRESENT EACH CAMPUS. SO A COUPLE OF THE CAMPUSES, I'M GOING TO REACH OUT AND SEE IF WE CAN PRESS A LITTLE MORE TO. BECAUSE IT'S NOT EVENLY DISTRIBUTED TO TRY

TO GET THOSE FOUR SLOTS FILLED. BUT I WAS SUPER EXCITED. JUST PRELIMINARY LOOKING AT THE, THE, WHAT I'VE RECEIVED FROM WHAT CAMPUSES TO SEE THAT EVERY CAMPUS HAD AN APPLICANT AT LEAST ONE. SO I'M SUPER EXCITED TO HAVE ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. AND THEN LASTLY, THIS WAS VERY EXCITING. WE'RE SUPER EXCITED TO PARTNER WITH GULF COAST BLOOD. AND THEY DONATED $8,000 FOR A SCHOLARSHIP FOR A STUDENT WELLNESS CHAMPION SCHOLARSHIP. AND WE PARTNERED WITH OUR WITH US, WITH SHAC. AND THEN I HAD SOME OF OUR LOVELY EXEC TEAM GAVE THEIR TIME TO COME IN TO EVALUATE ALL OF THE APPLICATIONS. AND THEY WERE THEY WERE AMAZING. THERE WERE SO MANY GREAT ONES. BUT WE FOLLOWED A STRICT PROCESS AND THEY WERE EVALUATED BY THE SAME PROCESS THAT THE TEACHER OF THE YEAR PROCESS THAT WE FOLLOW. SO WE USE THAT AND THESE ARE OUR FOUR THAT WERE AWARDED. THEY'LL EACH BE AWARDED $2,000. AND PART OF THE CRITERIA WAS, IS THAT THEY HAD TO BE A SENIOR THOSE GRADUATING THIS SCHOOL YEAR. AND THEY ALSO HAD TO BE. IN SOME TYPE OF LIFE SCIENCES HEALTH MAJOR. SO YOU CAN SEE THAT WE HAVE AUSTIN HIGH SCHOOLS REPRESENTATIVE VINNIE PATEL. SHE'S GOING TO TEXAS A AND M AND PUBLIC HEALTH AND THE PRE-MED. THEN WE HAVE ANNA GRATZ. THAT'S CLEMENTS HIGH SCHOOL, AND SHE'S GOING TO ELON UNIVERSITY WITH PUBLIC HEALTH.AND THEN LANA WIN FROM ELKINS. AND SHE IS RICE UNIVERSITY AS WELL WITH A PUBLIC HEALTH SCIENCES MEDICAL SCHOOL. AND THEN MADISON WIN IS FROM KEMPNER HIGH SCHOOL. AND SHE'S ALSO ATTENDING RICE UNIVERSITY PSYCHOLOGY PRE-MED TRACK. AND TWO OF OUR STUDENTS, TWO OF THOSE ARE ACTUALLY ENDED UP BEING DISTRICT STUDENT WELLNESS COALITION KIDS. AND ONE OF THEM WERE STUDENT LEADERSHIP VOICES STUDENTS. SO THREE OF THE FOUR, WE DON'T KNOW BECAUSE IT WAS ALL DONE BLINDLY UNTIL THE END. THEY WERE PART OF THE THEIR FOUR LEADERSHIP GROUPS IN OUR DISTRICT. AND THREE OF THOSE FOUR WERE ALL STUDENT LEADER MEMBERS. SO WE'RE SUPER HAPPY THAT WE CAN PROVIDE A LITTLE EXTRA SOMETHING FOR THEM TO HELP THEM IN THEIR JOURNEY IN, IN SCHOOL. WE'RE TRYING TO SOME PARENTS IN SULLIVAN AND AT SETTLER'S ELEMENTARY ARE TRYING TO PUSH THE WAIT UNTIL EIGHTH INITIATIVE, THE PLEDGE TO RALLY PARENTS WITH KIDS WHO ARE IN MIDDLE SCHOOL OR IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL TO COME TOGETHER AND SAY THAT WE'RE NOT GOING TO GIVE OUR KIDS SMARTPHONES UNTIL AFTER OR AT THE END OF EIGHTH GRADE. SO IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD ABOUT IT, LOOK IT UP. I DON'T KNOW IF EVERYONE'S AWARE OF THAT, BUT I THINK WE'RE SEEING MORE RESEARCH NOW ABOUT HOW MUCH, YOU KNOW, BETWEEN THE SOCIAL MEDIA AND THE EARLY ACCESS TO SMARTPHONES, THE THE NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE MENTAL HEALTH OF OUR KIDS.
