IF YOU SKIP OUT ON BREAKFAST PARTICULARLY I KNOW HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS THAT DON'T EAT BREAKFAST. I'M SURE YOU DON'T KNOW ANY. BUT YOU KNOW, THERE'S PROBABLY 1 OR 2 OUT THERE AND THEY ALL COME TO ME. AND WE ARE UNACCUSTOMED TO KIND OF FOR SOME REASON, DRAWING THE CONNECTION BETWEEN HOW WE FEEL AND THE THOUSANDS OF POUNDS OF FOOD WE PUT IN OUR BODIES, AND NOT DRAWING THE LINE THERE. RIGHT. FOR EXAMPLE, WE MAKE LITTLE MICRO-TEARS IN OUR MUSCLES WHEN WE GO TO SLEEP. IF WE'VE EATEN ENOUGH PROTEIN, WE FILL THOSE MICRO-TEARS IN SO IT CAN GROW BACK STRONGER. IF YOU DON'T GIVE IT THE INGREDIENTS IT NEEDS, YOU HAVE NO MUSCLE GROWTH. YOU DO NOT GET STRONGER, RIGHT? SO MUSCLE REPAIR, MUSCLE GROWTH, IT ALLOWS US TO STAY FULL OR STRONGER FOR LONGER. YOU COULD PROBABLY EAT CHIPS AND TWIZZLERS ALL AFTERNOON LONG, AND IT MAKES NOT EVEN A DENT IN YOUR HUNGER. I'VE HEARD OF THAT. BUT IF YOU HAVE PROTEIN, IT STOPS IT COMPLETELY, RIGHT? IT'S BECAUSE IT REGULATES YOUR HUNGER HORMONES NICELY, SO THAT THERE'S LESS PEAKS AND VALLEYS AND MORE SOFT ROLLING HILLS. OKAY, SO WE'RE LESS LIKELY TO HAVE THESE, LIKE REALLY COMPELLING CRAVINGS. AND IF THAT'S THE WAY THAT YOU EVER FEEL, IT'S PROBABLY BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T HAD ENOUGH PROTEIN EARLIER ON IN THE DAY. AND I COULD ALMOST GUARANTEE YOU IF THAT'S HOW YOU FEEL. SO IF YOU'VE EVER FELT LIKE YOU'VE GONE THROUGH A WORKOUT AND YOU HAVE POWERED OUT KIND OF HALFWAY THROUGH, YOU'RE JUST IT'S LIKE SOMEBODY PULLED THE PLUG ON YOU. THAT'S A FUEL PROBLEM. AND WE NEED SUPPORTS NOT ONLY TO SUPPORT THE STAFF, BUT ALSO FOR OUR STUDENT AND ANYONE WHO COMES IN CONTACT WITH STUDENTS.
SO WE HAVE TO KIND OF THINK ABOUT HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN, WHAT DO WE NEED TO DO. AND SO IN PARTNERSHIP WITH LORI SARTIN, AND JUST IN WANTING TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE IMPLEMENTING THE BEST PRACTICES AND REALLY THINKING THROUGH WHAT SCHOOL SYSTEMS NEED IN TERMS OF SUPPORT, THERE ARE MANY OPTIONS. AND THE MOST NATURAL WAY THAT THEY CAN GET THE SUPPORT THAT THEY NEED. AND THEY CAN REALLY MAKE SURE THAT THAT EARLY INTERVENTION IS RECOGNIZED AND THEY CAN GET TO THOSE EITHER PROFESSIONAL HELPS OR THE SUPPORTS THAT SUPPORT THAT PERSON'S MENTAL HEALTH. RIGHT. STATISTICS. SO STUDENT MENTAL HEALTH NEEDS ARE ALWAYS ON THE RISE. STAFF ARE OFTEN THE FIRST RESPONDERS, RIGHT. WE WOULD THINK THAT WE CAN GET A PERSON TO A THERAPIST OR A PSYCHOLOGIST OR A PSYCHIATRIST, BUT IT'S RARELY THAT THAT PERSON IS SITTING RIGHT NEXT TO THEM WHEN THEY NEED THAT TYPE OF HELP. SO IF WE EQUIP AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE WITH THE JUST THE ABILITY TO HAVE A CONVERSATION, IT CAN GET THAT PERSON THE SUPPORT THAT THEY NEED JUST TO SAY, HEY, I SEE SOMETHING MAY BE CONCERNING. CAN WE TALK OR IS SOMETHING GOING ON? AND IF IT'S NOTHING, AT LEAST THEY KNOW THAT, HEY, SOMEBODY IS LOOKING OUT FOR ME, SOMEBODY IS CONCERNED AND IT KIND OF TAKES THE PRESSURE OFF, FEELING LIKE YOU HAVE TO HAVE A WHOLE THERAPY SESSION. CONVERSATIONS WITH STUDENTS ARE AT LEAST GETTING THEM TO THOSE TRAINED PROFESSIONALS IF THEY NEED THE HELP AS WELL. SO WHY DOES THIS MATTER TO THE SHACK? IT HELPS US TO STAY IN COMPLIANCE WITH THAT. HB THREE MENTAL HEALTH TRAINING BILL. IT SUPPORTS THE STUDENT AND STAFF MENTAL HEALTH. IT HELPS HOLD THE MAKE SURE THAT THE DISTRICT IS ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE MANDATES THAT ARE BEING PASSED DOWN THROUGH LEGISLATION AND ITS SUSTAINABLE IMPLEMENTATION. SO IT'S NO JUST ONE TIME COME AND GET TRAINING. IT IS A SYSTEM WIDE SUPPORT. RIGHT. SO WE DID FACILITATOR TRAINING. SO I WENT OUT AND TRAINED STAFF. RIGHT. AND THEN HAVE ONGOING IMPLEMENTATION. SO IT CAN'T BE JUST I'M JUST GOING TO COME GET THIS TRAINING AND THEN THERE'S NO OTHER IMPACT WHATSOEVER. NO, WE WANT TO BE ABLE TO COME GET THE TRAINING. SO JUST UPCOMING PAST EVENTS THAT WE HAD, IT WAS NATIONAL WEAR RED DAY. WE JUST CELEBRATED OUR NATIONAL SCHOOL COUNSELING WEEK AND OUR SCHOOL COUNSELORS AND ALL THE WONDERFUL THINGS THEY DO FOR OUR STUDENTS. AND THEN ONE WEEK TO SAVE A LIFE IS COMING UP. JUST TO RECAP, I MENTIONED THIS LAST TIME THAT ALL OF OUR STAFF ARE GETTING AS FAR AS TEACHERS DURING THEIR FACULTY MEETINGS. THEY ARE GETTING TRAINED IN HANDS ONLY CPR. SO THAT'S SOMETHING THAT PART OF THIS INITIATIVE IS WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF. AND, YOU KNOW, JUST RAISING AWARENESS HOW THEY CAN HELP. EVEN IF YOU'RE NOT FULLY CERTIFIED IN CPR, YOU STILL CAN HELP AS THAT FIRST CAREGIVER, GIVING THAT HANDS ONLY CPR AND THEN MOVING ON TO OTHER TRAINING STAFF CAN COME AND SUPPORT. AND THEN OUR ELEMENTARY STUDENTS IN GRADES THREE, THIRD, FOURTH AND FIFTH. THEY ALSO WILL BE LEARNING HANDS ONLY CPR. AND THE INTENT IS NOT FOR THEM TO BE CONDUCTING HANDS ONLY CPR. IT'S THE AWARENESS AND THEY SO THAT THEY CAN THEN HELP AN ADULT THAT WHO MAY NOT KNOW HOW TO DO IT. THEY CAN EXPLAIN TO THEM WHERE THEY NEED TO PUT THEIR HANDS, HOW TO DO IT, SO THAT THAT THEY CAN COACH THAT ADULT TO HELP ANOTHER ADULT OUT. AND THERE'S BEEN MANY INSTANCES WHERE THAT ACTUALLY HAS HAPPENED AND THAT A CHILD WAS ABLE TO HELP DO THAT. AND WE'RE VERY THANKFUL FOR OUR NURSES AND OUR PE TEACHER, ELEMENTARY PE TEACHERS, BECAUSE THEY ARE LEADING THE CHARGE IN SUPPORTING GETTING ALL THAT EXPOSURE TO ALL OF OUR STAFF AND OUR STUDENTS SO THAT WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH IS COMING UP IN MARCH, SO BE KEEPING MORE INFORMATION COMING FROM CHILD NUTRITION AS FAR AS THAT GOES. THEN WE'RE ALSO GOING TO BE CELEBRATING OUR SOCIAL WORKERS, BECAUSE WITH NATIONAL SOCIAL WORK WEEK, THEN AS PART OF OUR NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH, THAT OUR CHILD NUTRITION HAS THIS SUPER CUTE, I GUESS YOU COULD SAY CUTE OR INTERESTING. I LOVE IT LIKE THEY'RE THEY HAVE A SPECIAL SPECIAL EDITION MENU THAT IS OUT FOR THE WEEK FOR NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK. AND AGAIN IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION FROM THEM.
