GOOD EVENING, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN. SO I AM GOING TO LET MY COLLEAGUE MELISSA HUBBARD BEGIN THE PRESENTATION, AND THEN I'LL COME IN IN THE BACK END AND TELL YOU SOME MORE ABOUT THE WONDERFUL THINGS OUR STUDENTS HAVE BEEN UP TO. MISS HUBBARD.

THIS EVENING WE ARE GOING TO PROVIDE OUR BEGINNING OF THE YEAR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT UPDATE.
THIS INFORMATION IS GOING TO COVER OUR INITIAL DATA POINTS FROM OUR BEGINNING OF THE YEAR ASSESSMENTS FOR PRE K CIRCLE, AS WELL AS OUR BEGINNING OF THE YEAR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT PERCENTILES FOR OUR NWA MAP GROWTH ASSESSMENTS FOR MULTIPLE GRADE LEVELS, AS WELL AS MULTIPLE CONTENT AREAS. DOCTOR STEVENS IS ALSO GOING TO GIVE A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN MAP AND STAR, SO THAT WE CAN KIND OF LEVEL SET ON THE DATA THAT YOU'LL BE VIEWING TODAY.
SO I'M GOING TO START OFF WITH OUR PRE-K FOR DATA THIS YEAR AT OUR BEGINNING OF THE YEAR DATA POINT FOR MATH EARLY NUMERACY. WE ARE SITTING ON ABOUT 84% OF OUR STUDENTS ON TRACK FOR THEIR MATH COMPOSITE SCORES.
THAT IS VERY COMPARABLE TO WHERE WE'VE BEEN THE LAST TWO YEARS.
SO THAT IS OUR PRE-K CIRCLE DATA FOR MATH. IN TERMS OF OUR EARLY LITERACY CIRCLE DATA, WE ARE BEGINNING THIS SCHOOL YEAR AT 60% OF OUR STUDENTS ON TRACK WITH THAT PHONOLOGICAL ECOLOGICAL AWARENESS PIECE A LITTLE BIT HIGHER THAN WHERE WE STARTED LAST YEAR, BY TWO PERCENTAGE POINTS AND SLIGHTLY LOWER THAN WE WERE IN 2023.
AND SO THIS IS WHERE WE ARE STARTING WITH PRE-K FOR THIS SCHOOL YEAR.
AND I'M GOING TO TURN IT OVER TO DOCTOR STEVENS.
AND HE'S GOING TO TALK ABOUT MAP. THANK YOU MISS HUBBARD.
SO ONE OF THE THINGS WE ALWAYS WANT TO DO IS WE WANT TO LEVEL SET.
SO WE KNOW THAT WITH THE TERM ASSESSMENT GETS THROWN AROUND A LOT AND BANDIED AROUND A LOT. SO WE REALLY WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THERE'S JUST A COMMON UNDERSTANDING OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ASSESSMENT THAT WE USE. AND SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT MAP ASSESSMENT, MAP IS REALLY JUST ONE LEG OF A THREE LEGGED STOOL THAT WE USE IN THE DISTRICT.
SO WE HAVE OUR MAP ASSESSMENT. AND THE THING ABOUT MAP IS THAT WE ADMINISTER THAT THREE TIMES A YEAR, AND OUR STUDENTS PERFORMANCE IS COMPARED TO A NORMATIVE SAMPLE.
SO IT'S STUDENTS IN TEXAS, STUDENTS IN OKLAHOMA, OHIO.
WE ALSO HAVE THE STAR ASSESSMENT. SO THE STAR ASSESSMENT IS AN ASSESSMENT THAT YOU'RE ALL FAMILIAR WITH. AND SO THAT'S AN ASSESSMENT THAT WE TAKE CURRENTLY ONCE A YEAR AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. AND IT REALLY MEASURES OUR STUDENTS PERFORMANCE ON HOW WELL THEY SHOULD HAVE LEARNED CONCEPTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. AND THAT THIRD LEG OF THE STOOL THAT WE USE IS THE LOCAL DISTRICT ASSESSMENT. SO WE TAKE ALL THREE OF THOSE ASSESSMENTS.
AND THOSE ASSESSMENTS ARE GIVEN ON A WEEKLY OR BI WEEKLY BASIS.

OR HOWEVER OFTEN THE CAMPUS DETERMINES, AND WE USE ALL THREE OF THOSE DATA POINTS TO REALLY TRIANGULATE AND GIVE US A SENSE OF HOW WELL A STUDENT IS PROGRESSING THROUGH HIS OR HER SCHOOL YEAR. SO WE LOOK AT MAP. AND AGAIN, THE BIG DIFFERENCE IS MAP IS AN ADAPTIVE ASSESSMENT.SO AS THE KID IS MORE SUCCESSFUL, THEY'RE GOING TO GET QUESTIONS THAT ARE TAILORED TO HIM OR HER.
THE ONLY DIFFERENCE THAT YOU'LL SEE ON STAAR TEST IS THAT THERE ARE SOME FIELD QUESTIONS THAT ARE A LITTLE DIFFERENT FOR SPECIFIC STUDENTS, BUT REALLY, MAP IS FOCUSED ON MEASURING INDIVIDUAL GROWTH AND CURRENT ACHIEVEMENT ACROSS A WIDE RANGE OF SKILL.
BY STAR LOOKS AT HOW WELL THE STUDENTS DID AT THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR.
AND THEN MAP LET US KNOW HALFWAY THROUGH THE YEAR LAST YEAR THAT THEY WERE WORKING ON A BIG SURPRISE. AND THAT BIG SURPRISE WAS THAT THEY WERE UPDATING THEIR NORMS. AND SO GENERALLY, EVERY 3 TO 5 YEARS, MAPS LIKE MAP LIKES TO COME OUT AND HAVE UPDATED NORMS. SO THEY SPENT THE LAST FEW YEARS REALLY ENSURING THAT THE NORMS THAT THEY USE FOR THE NEXT 3 TO 5 YEARS CAPTURE THE CURRENT EDUCATIONAL CLIMATE.
AND SO WHAT THEY SAW WAS THAT THEY HAD 116 MILLION SCORES TO PULL FROM, FROM ALMOST 14 MILLION STUDENTS ACROSS 30,000 SCHOOLS, SPANNING SIX TESTING TERMS FROM FALL 2022 TO FALL 2024.
AND SO THESE DATA POINTS NOW ENCOMPASS THE NEW MAP.
ONE OF THE THINGS THAT THAT MAKES KIND OF DIFFICULT IS AS THEY FACTOR IN NEW MAP DATA, IT MAKES COMPARING OUR SCORES FROM THE 2025 FALL TO THE 2024 FALL A LITTLE BIT TRICKY. SO AS AN EXAMPLE, WHAT WE KNOW, WHAT MAP SHARED WITH US IS THAT MAYBE IN 2024, THAT SCORE OF 175, THAT EQUATED TO A SCORE OF 50%. WHAT WE KNOW NOW IS THAT WITH THE UPDATED NORMS, THAT SCORE OF A 125, THAT COULD BE A SCORE OF 54%. SO IT'S REALLY DIFFICULT TO LOOK AT THAT CAMPUS ACHIEVEMENT NUMBER AND SAY, WELL, IT'S BETTER THAN LAST YEAR. IT'S A LITTLE DOWN COMPARED TO LAST YEAR BECAUSE THEY'VE ADJUSTED THOSE NORMS. AND SO WHAT WE CONTINUE TO SUPPORT THE CAMPUSES WITH IS GETTING A REALLY HOLISTIC PICTURE OF THE INDIVIDUAL STUDENTS PERFORMANCE.
THAT'S THE ONE THING THAT'S REALLY POWERFUL ABOUT MAP IS THAT WHEN WE GIVE THE ASSESSMENT, IT LETS US KNOW THAT THESE ARE THE SKILLS THAT THAT THE STUDENT IS READY TO DISPLAY RIGHT NOW.
THESE ARE THE SKILLS THAT WITH A LITTLE BIT OF INSTRUCTION, THE STUDENT IS GOING TO BE ABLE TO PERFORM REALLY WELL AT. AND THERE'S SOME SKILLS BACK HERE THAT THE STUDENT NEEDS MORE INDIVIDUALIZED SUPPORT.
AND SO THE NEW NORMS JUST GIVE US MORE DATA THAT WE CAN USE TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS.
OVERALL, WE WERE REALLY PLEASED WHEN WE GOT THE DATA.
IT WAS NICE FOR US TO SEE THAT OUR STUDENTS CONTINUED TO PERFORM.
SO EVERYTHING ABOVE 50 PERCENTILE MEANS THAT YOU'RE IN A REALLY GOOD SPACE.
SO WE SEE THAT ACROSS THE BOARD. OUR DISTRICT AVERAGE FOR READING WAS 65.
WE WERE IN THE 65TH PERCENTILE KINDERGARTEN. WE WERE IN THE 58TH PERCENTILE.
BUT YOU SEE ACROSS THE BOARD FROM FIRST GRADE TO 10TH GRADE, WE ARE AT OR ABOVE THE 61ST PERCENTILE.
SO THAT INDICATES REALLY STRONG READING AND LANGUAGE PERFORMANCE FOR OUR STUDENTS.
AND THEN WHAT THAT DOES FOR KINDERGARTEN IS IT GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO KIND OF REALLY DIG IN AND REALLY UNPACK AND MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE ENSURING THAT THAT THOSE PHONICS LESSONS ARE TAKING ROOT, AND THEN ALSO WORK WITH OUR PRE-K TEACHERS TO ENSURE THAT WHEN OUR STUDENTS COME TO US FOR KINDERGARTEN, THAT THEY'RE READY FOR THAT RIGOR AND CHALLENGE. SO ACROSS THE BOARD, READING ACHIEVEMENT CONTINUES TO LOOK STRONG.
AND THAT'S A PRACTICE THAT WE SEE AS WELL WHEN WE LOOK AT MATH ACHIEVEMENT. AND SO THE FIRST THING THAT JUMPS OUT IS WELL WHAT HAPPENED WITH EIGHTH GRADE. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE HAVE TO REMEMBER WITH EIGHTH GRADE IS THIS MEASURES ON GRADE LEVEL ACHIEVEMENT.
SO THIS IS OUR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS THAT ARE TAKING EIGHTH GRADE MATH.
SO THIS IS JUST 41% OF OUR ON GRADE LEVEL EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS THAT ARE TAKING THIS ASSESSMENT.
WHEN WE MOVE THAT FORWARD TO ALGEBRA ONE, WE SEE THAT JUMPS UP TO 62%.
SO IF WE'RE ABLE TO FACTOR IN WHAT THOSE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS TOOK THAT WERE TAKING ON GRADE LEVEL TESTS AND WHAT OUR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS TOOK THAT WERE TAKING THE ABOVE GRADE LEVEL TEST, THAT GIVE US A BETTER PICTURE OF THE PERFORMANCE OF OUR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS. SO OVERALL, ACROSS THE BOARD, WE ARE WELL POSITIONED TO CONTINUE TO EXPERIENCE THE LEVEL OF SUCCESS THAT WE HAD. WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH INDIVIDUAL CAMPUSES.
WE ENCOURAGE THEM TO USE THIS DATA BOTH TO GUIDE THEIR PLTS TO GUIDE THEIR PLCS.
THAT'S ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE KNOW FOR OUR THREE CAMPUSES THAT WE ARE HIGHLY FOCUSED ON IS THEY'RE USING THIS DATA TO HELP THEM INFORM WHICH GROUPS OF STUDENTS ARE GETTING INTERVENTIONS, WHICH GROUPS OF STUDENTS ARE GETTING ADDITIONAL TOUCHES. AND SO WE THINK THAT THIS DATA PAINTS A REALLY GOOD PICTURE OF THE WORK THAT OUR TEACHERS ARE DOING IN FORT BEND ISD. AND SO WE CONTINUE TO REMAIN PLEASED WITH WITH THE DATA.
IT ALSO GIVES US SOME REALLY GOOD ACTION POINTS AND LETS US KNOW THAT WE DEFINITELY HAVE AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY. SO ONE OF THE DATA PIECES THAT WE PROVIDED YOU WAS A BREAKDOWN OF THE INDIVIDUAL CAMPUSES BY STUDENT SUPPORT. WE'VE GONE AHEAD AND UPDATED THAT TO INCLUDE SOME ADDITIONAL REQUESTS THAT WERE SUBMITTED.

OUR STUDENT SUBPOPULATIONS DON'T FALL BEHIND AND WE DON'T SEE GROWTH IN THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP.SO WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH PRINCIPALS. I KNOW ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN THIS WEEK IS WE'RE GOING TO CONTINUE TO TO WORK WITH PRINCIPALS DURING OUR FOCUS ON LEADING SESSION. WE'RE GOING TO PROVIDE THEM MORE INFORMATION AND OPPORTUNITIES TO REALLY DIG IN AND UNPACK NOT JUST THEIR MAP DATA, BUT DATA IN GENERAL, BECAUSE WE REALLY FEEL LIKE HAVING A REALLY GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR DATA IS JUST GOING TO MAKE YOU THAT MUCH MORE OF AN EFFECTIVE INSTRUCTIONAL LEADER.

AND DO WE DO WE HAVE, YOU KNOW, AGAIN, YOU DON'T HAVE TO ANSWER IT, BUT DO WE HAVE ANY DATA THAT SHOWS ARE THEY PERFORMING BETTER THAN THE KIDS WHO ARE COMING IN WITHOUT PRE-K EXPERIENCE? SO ON AVERAGE, THIS IS AN EXACT NUMBER. BUT WHAT WE'VE SEEN OVER THE LAST COUPLE YEARS IS IT'S ABOUT 50% OF OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE IN KINDERGARTEN NOW WERE ALSO IN OUR PRE-K FOUR PROGRAM. OKAY. NOW THAT'S NOT BY CAMPUS, RIGHT? THERE MIGHT BE MORE STUDENTS AT ROSA PARKS, LET'S SAY, FOR EXAMPLE, THAT WERE IN PRE-K FOUR AND ARE AT KINDERGARTEN AT ROSA PARKS.
RIGHT. AND IT MIGHT BE A LESS PERCENTAGE AT ANOTHER CAMPUS, BUT OVERALL IT'S ABOUT 50% OF OUR PRE-K.
FOUR STUDENTS ARE ALSO MATRICULATING UP TO KINDER.
IN TERMS OF THE PROGRESS OR HOW DOES PRE-K FOUR IMPACT KINDERGARTEN SUCCESS? WE DO AN ANNUAL PROGRAM EVALUATION ON PRE-K, AND WE HAD ONE LAST YEAR THAT LOOKED AT SOME OF THAT DATA THAT WE COULD PROVIDE TO YOU.
HOPEFULLY THE DATA PROVES THAT, THAT THE IMPACT OF PRE-K IS HELPFUL TO OUR KIDS.
THE OTHER QUESTION THAT AS YOU WERE TELLING DOCTOR STEVENS ABOUT THE MATH AND AGAIN, I DON'T WANT AN ANSWER NOW, BUT CAN YOU SHOW THE BOARD THE NUMBER AND PERCENTAGE OF OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE TAKING ON LEVEL EIGHTH GRADE MATH VERSUS ALGEBRA ONE VERSUS MAYBE GEOMETRY? AND SO THAT'S THAT SOUNDS MAYBE NOT LIKE A LOT, OR MAYBE IT SOUNDS LIKE A LOT.
AND SO THERE'S A LOT OF WORK BEHIND EACH OF THOSE THINGS.
AND WE HAVE CURRENTLY 301 REFERRALS AND PROCESS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.
WE'VE ALREADY THIS YEAR COMPLETED 389 REMOVALS WITH 2500 DUE THIS YEAR.
AND WE KNOW THAT EACH REMOVAL COULD TAKE ANYWHERE FROM 4 TO 10 UP TO TO 30 HOURS TO COMPLETE.
SO THIS CONTINUES TO BE A TESTAMENT TO OUR STAFF.
AND WE ARE WE ARE INDEBTED TO THEM GREATLY. SO WE HAVE 29 REFERRALS THAT HAVE COME FROM OUR EARLY CHILDHOOD CENTER SINCE AUGUST, AND WE'VE ALREADY COMPLETED 2546 ANNUAL AUDITS.

WE WANT PEOPLE TO LOOK AT IT AND WE WANT IT TO BE ASPIRATIONAL.
SO AS SOON AS THE THEATER TEACHERS SAW THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING IN PE, THEY ACTUALLY APPROACHED THE PRINCIPAL AND SAID, HEY, WE'RE REALLY INTERESTED IN THIS. AND SO IT'S ALREADY BEEN A GREAT CONVERSATION BETWEEN MYSELF, THE SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT, CAMPUS LEADERSHIP, AND OUR FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT ABOUT PARTNER THEATER. SO I GOT TO SEE STUDENTS. THE BOTTOM PICTURE IS OUR STUDENTS ARE AT MARSHALLS GETTING THOSE LIFE SKILLS, GETTING READY TO GET HIRED. WE SPENT SOME TIME AT BURLINGTON BURLINGTON COAT FACTORY SEEING STUDENTS THERE, WORKING, STOCKING THE SHELVES, GETTING READY TO GET HIRED AND ONBOARDED.
WE HAVE STUDENTS AT WALGREENS AND AT DOUBLEDAY, SO IT'S JUST SO REFRESHING TO SEE THE WORK THAT OUR CAMPUS TEACHERS ARE DOING IN PREPARING THOSE STUDENTS THAT ARE IN THAT ATS PROGRAM TO TRANSITION OUT INTO THE INTO THE REAL WORLD.

AND THEN WE CONTINUE TO TRY TO LOOK AND JUST PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR OUR PARENTS TO LEARN AND GROW AND KNOW.
SO WE HAVE THESE NEW TO KNOW SESSIONS WHERE PARENTS CAN LOG ON AND JUST HANG OUT AND LEARN MORE THINGS ABOUT THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT THEY HAVE AVAILABLE TO THEM AS THEIR STUDENTS ARE IN IN OUR CARE IN FORT BEND ISD AND OUR SPECIAL ED PROGRAM.
