YES, MA'AM. GOOD EVENING AGAIN TO OUR TRUSTEES, THOSE THAT ARE HERE IN THE AUDIENCE.

I HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT ON THIS EVENING.

THE FIRST IS A RECAP OF OUR 2526 CONVOCATION.

WE OFFICIALLY KICKED OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR, OF COURSE COMPLETING OUR FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL, AND WE HAD ANOTHER GREAT CONVOCATION.

IT WAS A VIRTUAL CONVOCATION AGAIN THIS YEAR AND AS YOU MAY KNOW, OUR THEME IS LEVELING UP.

AND IT'S USING OUR INFLUENCE, OUR IMPACT AND OUR POTENTIAL.

AND THIS BUILDS ON OUR FOUNDATION, WHICH IS LEADING WITH THE PACK PROFESSIONALISM, ACCOUNTABILITY AND COMMUNICATION.

SOME OF OUR CAMPUSES, THEY JOINED TOGETHER TO WATCH THE CONVOCATION ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

AND THEN WE ALSO HAD DEPARTMENTS THAT GATHERED AT WHEELER FIELDHOUSE.

AND WE HAD AN AWESOME TIME. AND I AM SO GLAD THAT THERE WAS NO VIDEO CAPTURING ME TRYING TO DO A LINE DANCE, SO. REALLY EXCITED ABOUT THAT. I HAVE SOME WORK TO DO IN THAT AREA.

BUT IT WAS GREAT TO SEE OUR STAFF COME TOGETHER, HAVE FUN, AND CELEBRATE THE HARD WORK THAT WE HAVE ALL BEEN ENGAGED IN SO THAT WE CAN HAVE A GOOD START TO THE SCHOOL YEAR AND REALLY JUST SET THE TONE FOR AN OUTSTANDING SCHOOL YEAR AHEAD.

AND SO I WANT TO THANK EVERYONE WHO PARTICIPATED AND HELPED INSPIRE OUR STAFF SO THAT WE COULD START THE YEAR STRONG AND SO THAT WE COULD LEVEL UP.

THE SECOND ITEM THAT I'D LIKE TO SHARE AND UPDATE ON IS THE OPENING OF OUR THREE NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS.

FIRST, I WANT TO THANK ALL THE TRUSTEES WHO WERE ABLE TO JOIN US ON THE SNEAK PEEKS LEADING UP TO THE SCHOOL YEAR AND THOSE THAT WERE WITH US ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

WE HAD A GREAT TIME THIS YEAR. WE OPENED THREE BRAND NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS, ALDRIDGE MISSION AND FERNDALE HENRY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL SCHOOLS I HAD A CHANCE TO VISIT EACH OF THOSE CAMPUSES ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL, AND YOU COULD FEEL THE EXCITEMENT.

THE STAFF WAS VERY WELCOMING. THE STUDENTS WERE SO VERY EXCITED ABOUT THEIR NEW BUILDINGS.

WE HAD LOTS OF MEDIA ADMISSION ELEMENTARIES, SEVERAL NEWS STATIONS WHERE WE WERE THE FEATURE HEADLINE FOR THE

NEWS AND FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR. AND SO IT WAS JUST GREAT COVERAGE FOR US ON THE FIRST DAY.

I ALSO WANT TO THANK THOSE THAT WORK TO SUPPORT OUR COLLABORATIVE COMMUNITIES DEPARTMENT.

THEY DID GREAT WORK. THIS NUMBER IS ASTOUNDING, BUT THEY HAD APPROXIMATELY 16,500 STUDENTS RECEIVED SCHOOL SUPPLY KITS TO SET THEM UP FOR SUCCESS ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL.

AND SO THAT'S GREAT WORK. WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT THEY HAVE DONE TO JUST MAKE SURE OUR STUDENTS ARE OFF TO A GOOD START.

SO I JUST WANT TO THANK EVERYONE FOR ALL THE HARD WORK AND IN PREPARING THESE THREE NEW SCHOOLS, IN PARTICULAR FOR A GREAT FIRST DAY AND JUST FOR SETTING THE TONE FOR AN AWESOME SCHOOL YEAR.

THE NEXT ITEM IS RECOGNIZING OUR FINE ARTS AND OUR ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT.

SEEMS LIKE EACH MONTH WE ARE RECOGNIZING OUR FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT, BUT THEY'RE JUST THAT GREAT.

THEY DO GREAT THINGS, AND THEY REALLY SET THE TONE NOT ONLY IN THE STATE, BUT NATIONALLY.

SO OUR FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT RECENTLY EARNED A STATE LEVEL RECOGNITION AS A PREMIERE COMMUNITY FOR THEATER EDUCATION.

THAT WAS BY THE EDUCATIONAL THEATER ASSOCIATION.

THIS HONOR HIGHLIGHTS OUR DISTRICT'S COMMITMENT TO ENSURING THAT ALL OF OUR STUDENTS HAVE ACCESS TO A HIGH QUALITY THEATER PROGRAM.

OUR STUDENTS ARE TELLING POWERFUL STORIES, AND OUR EDUCATORS ARE GIVING THEM THE SKILLS AND CONFIDENCE THAT THEY NEED TO SHINE ON STAGE.

SO I ALSO HAVE EXCITING NEWS FROM OUR ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT.

YOU MAY HAVE SEEN THE NEWS THIS WEEKEND. OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR, DINA SCOTT, WAS FEATURED ON THE HOUSTON TEXANS WITH GIRLS SOFTBALL, BUT OUR DISTRICT HAS BEEN NAMED A TEXAS WADE DISTRICT OF DISTINCTION FOR THE 2425 SCHOOL YEAR.

AND BASICALLY, THIS RECOGNITION CELEBRATES THE COMMITMENT OF PROMOTING GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT ACROSS ALL MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC PROGRAMS. AND SO I WANT TO APPRECIATE DENA AND HER LEADERSHIP.

THERE IS AN EVENT TOMORROW EVENING. WELL, NOT TOMORROW EVENING.

IT'S ON THE 20TH. SORRY. AUGUST 20TH AT WHEELER FIELDHOUSE.

AND OUR DISTRICT WILL BE HOSTING THE TEXAS WAY DAY COMMUNITY PEP RALLY.

IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO SEE ALL OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS COME TOGETHER AND REALLY CELEBRATE THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR AND THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON ATHLETIC WISE.

AND THEN THE LAST ITEM THAT I HAVE IS JUST AS WE CLOSE OUT THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL WANTED TO SHARE OUR ANNOUNCEMENT ON OUR ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS. AS YOU KNOW, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING REALLY HARD TO IMPROVE.

OUR ACCOUNTABILITY RATING TO IMPROVE RESULTS ALL ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

WE ALL KNOW THAT STAR AND THE ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS.

IT'S NOT THE END ALL, BE ALL, BUT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR A NUMBER OF REASONS.

AND SO WE'RE REALLY PROUD OF THE WORK THAT WE'VE DONE.

I WANTED TO SPECIFICALLY THANK OUR TRUSTEES. I WANT TO THANK YOU FOR TRUSTING THE PROCESS.

WE'VE BEEN ON THIS JOURNEY FOR ONE SCHOOL YEAR, AND WE MADE SIGNIFICANT PROGRESS IN ONE SCHOOL YEAR.

THIS SCHOOL YEAR, THE STUDENTS HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED TO TAKE THEIR FIRST OR SECOND PERIOD CLASS AT ELKINS OR DULLES HIGH SCHOOL BEFORE RETURNING TO A VALLEY FOR THE REST OF THE DAY.

THE HIGH SCHOOL IS DISMISSED AT 9:16 A.M., AND THEY ARE EXPECTED TO REPORT TO VALLEY AT 09:50 A.M..

WE WERE INFORMED JUST PRIOR TO THE START OF SCHOOL THAT NO DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION WILL BE PROVIDED FOR THIS COMMUTE.

PARENTS ARE NOW RESPONSIBLE FOR SHUTTLING THEIR KIDS BETWEEN TWO CAMPUSES EVERY SINGLE DAY.

THIS PRESENTS SERIOUS ISSUES. FIRST, IT PLACES A HEAVY BURDEN ON WORKING FAMILIES WHO MAY NOT HAVE THE FLEXIBILITY OR RESOURCES TO MANAGE THIS DAILY COMMUTE, LIKE MYSELF AND MY WIFE. SECOND, IT RAISES SAFETY CONCERNS AS THE ONLY ALTERNATIVES APPEAR TO BE PRIVATE RIDESHARE SUCH AS UBER OR CARPOOLING ARRANGEMENTS WITH LIMITED OVERSIGHT. THIRD, IT LEAVES FAMILIES WITH AN IMPOSSIBLE CHOICE.

TAKE ON THIS BURDEN AND RISK, OR PULL THEIR STUDENTS FROM HIGH SCHOOL CREDIT COURSES THAT ARE VITAL TO THEIR ACADEMIC SUCCESS.

WE'VE BEEN OFFERED TO WE'VE EVEN OFFERED TO PAY FOR DISTRICT TRANSPORTATION BUT HAVE YET TO RECEIVE A RESPONSE.

WHAT'S FRUSTRATING IS THAT BOTH SCHOOLS ARE CLOSE TO THE LAKE OLYMPIA TRANSPORTATION CENTER, AND THIS ROUTE COULD BEGIN AFTER MIDDLE SCHOOL ROUTES HAVE COMMENCED OR HAVE COMPLETED.

YET INSTEAD OF SOLVING THIS, FAMILIES ARE LEFT SCRAMBLING MERE DAYS BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS.

THIS SITUATION DOES NOT REFLECT THE VALUES OR MISSION OF FBI CD, WHICH IS TO INSPIRE AND EQUIP ALL STUDENTS TO PURSUE FUTURE BEYOND WHAT THEY CAN IMAGINE.

WHEN ACCESS TO ADVANCED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES IS LIMITED BY TRANSPORTATION, THAT MISSION IS JUST WORDS ON A PAPER.

THESE ARE SOME OF THE DISTRICT'S HIGHEST ACHIEVING STUDENTS IN AN ALREADY SELECTED PROGRAM.

I WON'T BE SURPRISED TO SEE AT LEAST ONE OF THEM ON STAGE GIVING A GRADUATION SPEECH IN 2030.

IF WE DON'T LET LOGISTICS DERAIL THEM NOW, I'M ASKING THE BOARD TO DIRECT DISTRICT LEADERSHIP TO FIND AN IMMEDIATE SOLUTION.

WHETHER THAT'S ADJUSTING ROUTES, CREATING A PAID OPTION, OR SCHEDULING THESE STUDENTS AT ONE CAMPUS, TRANSPORTATION SHOULD NEVER BE THE BARRIER THAT KEEPS MOTIVATED STUDENTS FROM REACHING THEIR POTENTIAL.

THESE ARE SOME OF YOUR BRIGHTEST STUDENTS. DON'T LET A TEN MINUTE BUS RIDE BE THE REASON FOR THEIR FUTURE TO GET SMALLER.

MY CHILDREN ATTEND TRAVIS HIGH SCHOOL, WHERE I ALSO SERVE AS THE NEW ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB PRESIDENT AND RESEARCHING THE DISTRICT'S 2022 ED SPECS.

I FOUND THAT NEW HIGH SCHOOLS SHOULD BE BUILT FOR 2800 STUDENTS, WITH SPACE FOR 3000.

RECENT ESTIMATIONS NOTE THAT TRAVIS CURRENTLY HAS OVER 3200 STUDENTS, MAKING IT THE LARGEST HIGH SCHOOL IN THE DISTRICT.

BUILT IN 2006, IT WAS CLEARLY NOT SIZED OR PLANNED FOR THIS KIND OF GROWTH, AND IT SHOWS THE SCHOOL HAS NOT BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED AND UPDATED IN MY OPINION, AND AS THE BOOSTER CLUB PRESIDENT, I'VE TOURED THE ATHLETIC FACILITIES, SPOKEN WITH PARENTS AND COACHES, AND WHAT I'VE SEEN IS DEEPLY CONCERNING AND HONESTLY VERY DISAPPOINTING.

PARENTS ARE FRUSTRATED BUT UNSURE WHERE TO TURN.

COACHES ARE VERY RESILIENT BUT WORN DOWN BY DELAYS AND DISMISSALS.

THEY MAKE DO, BUT OUR STUDENTS DESERVE BETTER.

LET ME HIGHLIGHT JUST A FEW URGENT SAFETY ISSUES.

THE TRACK IS MISSING LARGE CHUNKS OF RUBBER, AND STUDENTS MUST TRAVEL TO OTHER SCHOOLS TO HOST HOME TRACK MEETS.

THE ATHLETIC TRAINER HAS TOLD ME THAT THERE CANNOT BE PROLONGED PRACTICES ON THE TRACK DUE TO RISK OF INJURY THROUGH SHIN SPLINTS.

THE SOFTBALL FIELD FENCING LACKS PROPER PROTECTION FOR SPECTATORS, RISKING INJURY WHEN FOUL BALLS HIT ARE HIT AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED.

I'VE SEEN LITTLE LEAGUE FIELDS WITH MORE SAFETY MEASURES.

THE COMPETITION GYM FLOOR, REPLACED JUST LAST YEAR, IS ALREADY FAILING AGAIN DUE TO POOR INSTALLATION AND OVERSIGHT.

IT'S LIFTING, IT'S DISCOLORED, AND IT'S IMPROPERLY MARKED.

BEYOND THESE, WE'RE DEALING WITH OUTDATED LIGHTING, CRACKED BLEACHERS, AND A FIELD HOUSE THAT WAS BUILT FOR A THREE DAY SCHOOL WITH 3000 STUDENTS PLUS STUDENTS, NONE OF WHICH MATCH THE SCALE OR NEEDS THAT TRAVIS HIGH SCHOOL HAS TODAY.

THIS YEAR, I'M COMMITTED TO WORKING WITH THE DISTRICT TO TO ADDRESS THESE ISSUES, ESPECIALLY THOSE THAT COMPROMISE STUDENT SAFETY.

OUR ATHLETES GIVE EVERYTHING TO THEIR SPORTS, AND AS A MOM OF TWO ATHLETES, I UNDERSTAND THE HARD WORK THAT GOES INTO THAT, AND THEY DESERVE FACILITIES THAT REFLECT THE SAME LEVEL OF COMMITMENT FROM THE DISTRICT.

I WANT THEM TO BE PROUD OF WHERE THEY PRACTICE AND PLAY.

I'M PASSIONATE ABOUT MY COMMUNITY. I'M PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS SCHOOL, HAVING GROWN UP VERY CLOSE TO WHERE I LIVE NOW, AND I WANT TO WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE THIS BETTER.

WE ARE RECEIVE A GRADE BASED ON OUR STAR PERFORMANCE.

OUR CMR AND OUR GRADUATION RATES. OUR CMR AND OUR GRADUATION RATES ARE LAG DATA, MEANING THAT WE HAVE IT FOR THE 25 SCHOOL YEAR, BUT IT'S BASED ON OUR DATA IN THE PAST.

OUR SECOND DOMAIN IS SCHOOL PROGRESS. SCHOOL PROGRESS IS SPLIT INTO TWO DIFFERENT AREAS.

PART A IS ACADEMIC GROWTH. HOW WELL ARE OUR STUDENTS MOVING AND THEN RELATIVE PERFORMANCE, HOW OUR CAMPUSES PERFORM WITH STAR AND CMR BASED UPON SCHOOLS THAT LOOK SOMEWHAT LIKE THEM.

AND THEN PART B IS RELATIVE PERFORMANCE. HOW WELL DO OUR CAMPUSES PERFORMED? LOOKING AT OUR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED NUMBERS.

SO ON PAPER, WE MIGHT HAVE A CAMPUS WITH A 40% ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED RATE, OR PERCENTAGE.

IF ON PAPER, A SURROUNDING SCHOOL HAS THAT SAME NUMBER, THEY MIGHT BE IN THE COMPARISON GROUP.

NOW, WHEN YOU WALK IN THE SCHOOL, THEY MAY OR MAY NOT LOOK LIKE OUR CAMPUSES, BUT WE'RE LOOKING AT THE ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED NUMBERS.

THAT'S DOMAIN TWO. THE LAST DOMAIN IS CLOSING THE GAPS AND CLOSING THE GAPS IS REALLY WHAT I CALL THE LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD DOMAIN.

SO DOMAINS ONE AND TWO STUDENTS ARE ALL PUT TOGETHER.

DOMAIN THREE. WE START BREAKING STUDENTS OUT AND LOOKING AT INDIVIDUAL ACCOUNTABILITY GROUPS AT THEIR ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, THEIR ACADEMIC GROWTH. WE LOOK AT THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY AND THEN THEIR STUDENT SUCCESS ON ALL STAR TESTS ACROSS THE BOARD IN EACH ONE OF THE THREE DOMAINS. WE RECEIVE A LETTER GRADE, AND FROM THOSE LETTER GRADES THEY ARE ALL PUT TOGETHER.

AND THEN WE ARE GIVEN AN OVERALL CAMPUS GRADE.

THAT'S HOW WE COME TO THE A THROUGH F. SO FOR STUDENT ACHIEVEMENT AND SCHOOL PROGRESS, IT'S THE BEST OF ACHIEVEMENT OR PROGRESS.

SO THIS DATA IS WHERE WE START TO BREAK STUDENTS INFORMATION DOWN INTO 14 DIFFERENT STUDENT GROUPS.

IT COULD BE ALL STUDENTS, HISPANIC STUDENTS, AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDENTS, ASIAN.

THEN IT GOES INTO SPECIAL EDUCATION. THAT INFORMS OUR STATE ACCOUNTABILITY, BUT IT ALSO ALIGNS TO OUR FEDERAL ACCOUNTABILITY.

AND IF OUR STUDENT SUBGROUPS DO NOT MEET A CERTAIN NUMBER, THEN OUR CAMPUSES WILL GO INTO WHAT WE CALL SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT. SO AGAIN, WE CAN HAVE A CAMPUS WITH A B RATING OR CAMPUS WITH A C RATING, AND WE HAVE AN ACCOUNTABILITY GROUP THAT'S NOT PERFORMING AT THE CUT SCORE, AND THEY CAN STILL BE IDENTIFIED AS A SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT CAMPUS.

HERE ON THE SCREEN, YOU CAN SEE THE 14 STUDENT GROUPS THAT ARE INCLUDED IN THIS CLOSING THE GAPS.

WITH THE CHANGE IN ACCOUNTABILITY. NOW IT'S TEN STUDENTS.

AND SO IT'S MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE ABLE TO IDENTIFY CAMPUSES WHO HAVE HAD A CHANGE IN THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS IN A STUDENT GROUP, SO THEY ARE PREPARED TO MONITOR ACCORDINGLY. SO THAT'S JUST A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF OUR ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM. BUT AS WE MOVE FORWARD, I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE KNOW TONIGHT WE'RE FOCUSING ON STATE.

I WILL WEAVE IN SOME OF THE FEDERAL ACCOUNTABILITY LIKE DOCTOR SMITH SAID EARLIER.

OUR STAR SCORES ARE ONE LEVEL OF DATA THAT WE USE, BUT I WANT TO MAKE SURE AS WE'RE TALKING ABOUT THE DATA AND CELEBRATING, THAT, I SHARE SOME INFORMATION FOR SOME OF OUR CAMPUSES THAT WILL MOVE BACK INTO SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT.

I DECIDED TO ANNOUNCE THAT WE HAVE MOVED TO A B RATING FOR THE 2425 SCHOOL YEAR.

I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE THAT I WILL BE SHARING WITH YOU A LOT OF POSITIVE, GREAT THINGS THIS EVENING.

PLEASE KNOW THAT AS WE GO INTO THE POSITIVE, GREAT THINGS, I WILL ALSO BOOKEND IT WITH SOME OF OUR CHALLENGES.

SO AS WE LOOK AT OUR ACCOUNTABILITY SUMMARY FOR ELEMENTARY, 70% OF OUR CAMPUSES EARNED AN A OR A B RATING, AND IT IS A MIXTURE OF CAMPUSES.

IT'S NOT THE CAMPUSES THAT WE WOULD SAY KIND OF HOLD OUR ACCOUNTABILITY WAITING AFLOAT.

WE HAVE CAMPUSES FROM THE EAST TO THE WEST TO THE CENTRAL THAT ARE IN A RATING WITH THE A OR B, WE HAVE CAMPUSES THAT WERE RATED A D ELEMENTARY AND NOW THEY'VE MOVED UP TO A B.

SO WE ARE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THE MOVEMENT. WE HAVE 15 OF OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES INCREASED BY AT LEAST ONE LETTER GRADE THIS YEAR, AND OUR NUMBER OF F RATED CAMPUSES FOR THE 25 TESTING CYCLE DECREASED FROM 3 TO 0.

SO WE HAVE 53 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND ZERO SCHOOLS EARNED AN F RATING.

THIS IS A TESTAMENT TO OUR TEACHERS, TO OUR LEADERSHIP, AND I'M SO SUPER PROUD OF THE WORK THAT THEY ARE DOING AS WE MOVE INTO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL.

SO AS I LAUNCH INTO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL CAMPUSES, I WANT TO TAKE SOME TIME TO TALK ABOUT OUR CAMPUSES THAT HAVE AN F.

SO WE HAVE TWO MIDDLE SCHOOLS THAT HAVE AN F RATING, AND WE HAVE ONE HIGH SCHOOL THAT HAS AN F RATING.

A PART OF OUR ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM IS SOMETHING CALLED THE GATEKEEPER RULE.

SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE TWO MIDDLE SCHOOLS, THEIR ACTUAL EARNED RATING WAS A D.

BUT BECAUSE TWO OF THEIR DOMAINS, THEY SCORED AN F, THE HIGHEST SCORE THAT THEY CAN HAVE IS AN F.

AND SO AS WE'RE LOOKING AT THOSE CAMPUSES AND WE'RE TALKING THROUGH THAT INFORMATION.

I WANT TO BE VERY CLEAR THAT THEY EARNED A SCORE OF A D.

GATEKEEPING MEANS THAT WE WANT ALL STUDENTS TO ACHIEVE.

WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE PERFORMING, AND IF YOU DO NOT MEET A CERTAIN LEVEL IN EACH ONE OF THOSE DOMAINS, THERE'S A CUTOFF. AND SO AS WE LOOK AT OUR HIGH SCHOOL THAT HAS AN F, THEY HIT THE CUTOFF.

AND SO WE WILL WORK WITH THEM TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE IMPROVING IN THOSE DOMAINS.

BUT YOU'LL SEE AN ASTERISK BY SOME OF THEIR INFORMATION.

OUR HIGH SCHOOL'S 50% OF THEM EARNED AN A OR A B.

WITH OUR HIGH SCHOOLS, WE HAD 11 CAMPUSES MAINTAINED OR INCREASED THEIR 2024 PROJECTED RATING, AND WE HAVE RATED CAMPUSES DECREASED FROM 4 TO 2.

THAT ASTERISK IS THERE BECAUSE ONE OF OUR HIGH SCHOOLS HAS AN F.

AND SO WHERE WE HAD THEM LAST YEAR, THEY ACTUALLY WENT BACKWARDS.

AND SO THE ASTERISK DENOTES THAT THEY WENT BACKWARDS.

BUT THEIR OVERALL SCORE, IF THE GATEKEEPING RULE WAS NOT, THERE WOULD HAVE BEEN A D.

SO THEN WE GO FROM A'S TO B'S INTO DISTINCTIONS.

AND SO AS WE TALK ABOUT DISTINCTIONS AND HOW CAMPUSES ARE RECOGNIZED AND THE 2024 SCHOOL YEAR OVERALL AS A DISTRICT, WE EARNED 137 DISTINCTIONS. YOU CAN EARN A DISTINCTION IN READING, A DISTINCTION IN MATH, SCIENCE, SOCIAL STUDIES. IT'S BEING IN THE TOP TEN OF YOUR GROUP.

THIS YEAR WE HAVE 149 CAMPUS DISTINCTIONS. SO AS WE BREAK THAT DOWN, ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I AM EXCITED ABOUT, IT'S REALLY HARD TO MAINTAIN A DISTINCTION ONCE YOU'RE IN THE TOP 10% OF YOUR GROUP AND THAT MOMENTUM IS GOING, YOUR GROWTH AND YOUR ACHIEVEMENT HAS STARTED TO HIT A SPECIFIC KIND OF RAM.

THAT MEANS YOU HAVE TO DIG DEEPER. IDENTIFY MORE STUDENTS.

AND SO SOMETIMES WE'LL SEE CAMPUSES WITH SEVEN DISTINCTIONS ONE YEAR AND ZERO DISTINCTIONS THE NEXT YEAR.

THEY'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG. THEY'VE MAXIMIZED THOSE POINTS.

AND SO IT'S A CYCLE THAT THEY HAVE TO GO THROUGH, ESPECIALLY AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL.

BUT WHAT YOU CAN SEE WITH THIS CHART IS THAT WE INCREASED OUR NUMBER OF DISTINCTIONS IN FIVE OF THE SEVEN AREAS.

AND WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THAT, THAT MEANS THAT THOSE CAMPUSES ARE STILL STRETCHING AND IDENTIFYING THOSE INDIVIDUAL KIDS TO PUSH THEM TO ANOTHER LEVEL.

SO WE'RE NOT PERFECT YET. WE ARE MAKING PROGRESS.

HOWEVER, WE HAVE SOME ROOM TO GROW. WE HAVE THE 20 FOCUS AND MEASURE CAMPUSES THAT WE IDENTIFIED.

THESE WERE CAMPUSES THAT WHETHER OVER TIME THEY HAVE BEEN SIGNIFICANTLY UNDERPERFORMING.

MAYBE THEY'VE HAD A SHIFT IN LEADERSHIP. MAYBE WE'VE SEEN THEIR DATA GO UP AND DOWN AND UP AND DOWN.

AND AS A DISTRICT, WE COMMITTED TO BEING INTENTIONAL.

WE COMMITTED TO BEING THOUGHTFUL. WE COMMITTED TO BEING FOCUSED, AND WE COMMITTED TO ADDING VALUE TO THOSE CAMPUSES THIS YEAR.

SO AS I SHARED WITH YOU LAST MONTH, 19 OF THOSE 20 CAMPUSES GREW.

BUT I WANT TO SHOW YOU WHERE WE SAW GROWTH. DIG A LITTLE DEEPER.

SO 80% OF OUR FOCUS AND MEASURE ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES INCREASED AT LEAST ONE LETTER GRADE.

THESE ARE THE CAMPUSES THAT WE IDENTIFIED AS NOT PERFORMING TO THEIR POTENTIAL.

EIGHT OF THE TEN INCREASED ONE LETTER GRADE THIS YEAR AS WE LOOK AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS.

THREE OF THE FIVE THAT WERE IDENTIFIED INCREASED ONE LETTER GRADE THIS YEAR.

AND IF YOU NOTICE OUR HIGH SCHOOLS. ONE OF THE FIVE INCREASED THIS YEAR.

SO AS WE TALK ABOUT PROGRESS, NOT PERFECTION.

I ALSO WANT TO SPEND A LITTLE TIME IN AN AREA THAT WE'VE IDENTIFIED AS A NEED FOR OUR STUDENTS IN DIFFERENT ACCOUNTABILITY GROUPS.

SO AS WE REVIEW THE DATA AND DIG DEEPER, WE NOTICE THAT WE HAVE LARGER GAPS AT OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL SETTING FOR OUR SPECIAL ED STUDENTS, FOR OUR ESL BILINGUAL STUDENTS. AND SO I'M GOING TO SHARE THIS DATA WITH YOU FOR A COUPLE OF REASONS.

ONE, IT IS GREAT TO HAVE THOSE CELEBRATIONS. WE ARE SUPER EXCITED ABOUT THOSE CELEBRATIONS.

HOWEVER, IT IS EVERY STUDENT EVERY DAY, AND SO IT IS IMPORTANT FOR US TO DIG DEEPER AND SEE WHAT'S HAPPENING AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL, BECAUSE WE'RE CREATING OR SEEING LARGER GAPS ARE BEING CREATED IN OUR STUDENT GROUPS.

SO AS YOU CAN SEE IN SIXTH GRADE MATH, WE START TO SEE THE GAP BETWEEN OUR ALL STUDENTS, OUR ESL BILINGUAL STUDENTS, AND OUR SPED STUDENTS START TO GROW. THE GREEN AREA IS APPROACHES AND THEN THE ORANGE IS MEETS AND ABOVE.

AND SO IF YOU NOTICE WHERE WE HAVE IN SIXTH GRADE MATH, 76% OF ALL STUDENTS ARE AT THE APPROACHES LEVEL.

WHEN YOU SLIDE OVER, YOU SEE THAT OUR ESL BILINGUAL STUDENTS ARE AT 64%.

OUR SPECIAL ED ARE AT 45. AND THEN OUR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED GO TO 65.

AND SO THIS IS WHERE WE START TO NOTICE THAT OUR GAP BETWEEN THE ACCOUNTABILITY GROUPS ARE GROWING SIGNIFICANTLY.

THE SAME CAN BE SAID FOR SEVENTH GRADE MATH. SIXTH GRADE READING IS AN AREA, IF YOU NOTICE IN SIXTH GRADE READING ALL STUDENTS FOR APPROACHES 81.

ONE. HOWEVER, WHEN YOU MOVE TO OUR ESL BILINGUAL STUDENTS, WE SEE THEM AT 65.

OUR SPECIAL ED STUDENTS AT 48 AND OUR ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS AT 72.

THE SAME FOR OUR EIGHTH GRADE READING AS WELL, EXCEPT THE GAP INCREASES.

SO WE HAVE 86% OF STUDENTS AT APPROACHES ESL BILINGUAL 70 SPECIAL ED 51.

AND SO IT'S MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE DIGGING DEEPER AND REALLY IDENTIFYING SOME TRENDS.

MAYBE THERE'S SYSTEMIC CONCERNS THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ARE SENDING OUR STUDENTS TO HIGH SCHOOL, HIGH SCHOOL READY. SO AS WE DIG THROUGH OUR DATA AGAIN, SO MUCH TO CELEBRATE, BUT WE HAVE SOME AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL. WE HAVE TO FOCUS IN ON CMR. ONE OF OUR BOARD PRIORITIES IS TO CONCLUDE THIS YEAR, WITH 90% OF THE CLASS OF 2026 BEING CMR MET.

WE ENDED THE SCHOOL YEAR AT 53%, AND FOR US, WE ARE EXCITED BECAUSE WE FEEL LIKE WE'RE GOING TO HIT THAT 90% AND MEET THE TARGET. IN ORDER TO DO THAT, WE HAVE TO BE VERY INTENTIONAL WITH THE HIGH SCHOOLS, OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL TIER ONE INSTRUCTION. SO WE HAVE OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL WHO'S FOCUSED ON INTERVENTION AND SERVING THE STUDENTS WHO MAY NOT BE ON TRACK, BUT WE KNOW AS WE FOCUS ON STUDENTS WHO ARE NOT ON TRACK, IF WE DON'T GET TIER ONE INSTRUCTION RIGHT,

WE'RE JUST IN THIS CYCLE. AND THAT'S WHAT WE SEE FOR SOME OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS THAT ARE NOT PERFORMING AT THE STANDARD IN WHICH WE WOULD LIKE FOR THEM TO BE.

OUR ESL BILINGUAL SUPPORT IS CRITICAL. WE SEE THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE THE GAP IS SMALLER AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL, BUT AS THEY MATRICULATE UP THE SYSTEM, THE GAP IS GETTING LARGER.

AND SO WE'RE REALLY GOING TO DIG IN AND GET TO THE ROOT CAUSE OF THIS AND GET A GOOD UNDERSTANDING.

IS IT GETTING SUPPORT TO THE TEACHERS? IS IT CHECKING OUR RESOURCES? IS IT LOOKING AT OUR MODEL? AND THE SAME CAN BE SPOKEN FOR OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS, SPECIAL EDUCATION STUDENTS, OUR GEN ED STUDENTS FIRST.

AND SO IT'S MAKING SURE THAT WE HAVE THE SUPPORT AND THE INSTRUCTION ALIGNED TO MEET THEM WHERE THEY ARE.

AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST, OUR ACCELERATED LEARNERS, OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE AT OR ABOVE GRADE LEVEL STRETCHING THEM BEYOND THE IMAGINABLE. SO IF YOU NOTICE IN THE STUDENT GROUPS, OUR GT STUDENTS ARE AT 100%, 100%, 100%. BUT IT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THEY'VE ARRIVED.

SO WHAT ARE WE DOING THROUGHOUT THE DAY TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY ARE ENRICHED AND THEY ARE STRETCHED AND IN FULL TRANSPARENCY THAT WE'RE RECAPTURING SOME OF OUR STUDENTS BACK FROM CHARTERS AND FROM PRIVATE SCHOOLS BECAUSE WE HAVE THE PROGRAMS TO MEET THEIR NEEDS.

SO OUR NEXT STEPS, BASED ON ALL THIS INFORMATION THAT I'VE SHARED WITH YOU, IS REALLY BEING STRATEGIC IN OUR FOCUS AREA.

TARGETED AND INTENTIONAL DATA ANALYSIS DATA TELLS A STORY, AND YOU CAN PULL ANY TYPE OF DATA TO TELL ANY TYPE OF STORY WE WANT TO TELL.

SO I'D LIKE TO HEAR HOW WE'RE STRETCHING FOR ALL OF OUR HIGH ACHIEVING STUDENTS.

THE RATIONALE FOR THAT, WE'VE WORKED WITH OUR ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT, WITH OUR FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT, AND THERE ARE REQUIREMENTS TO VERIFY ATTENDANCE, VERIFY GRADES.

AND SO WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT THE GAMUT OF STUDENTS WHO COULD BE LIVING IN AN AREA OF OUR DISTRICT BUT NOT ENROLLED THAT PERTAINS TO HOME SCHOOLS, CHARTER SCHOOL STUDENTS, PRIVATE SCHOOL STUDENTS.

AND SO THE TIME AND EFFORT REQUIRED ON STAFF TO VERIFY RESIDENCY OF THOSE STUDENTS AND TO VERIFY THE CURRICULUM AND THE GRADING SO THAT STUDENTS
