MEMBERS FOR THOSE AMAZING ACCOMPLISHMENTS. NEXT UP ON OUR AGENDA IS THE SUPERINTENDENT UPDATE, DOCTOR SMITH. YES, MA'AM. THANK YOU, MADAM PRESIDENT. GOOD EVENING TO EVERYONE. I HAVE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS THAT I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE IN THE SUPERINTENDENT'S UPDATE.

THE FIRST ITEM IS TO RECOGNIZE THE ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS OF OUR 2025 NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS. SO THERE WERE 828 TOTAL WINNERS FROM TEXAS. IN OUR DISTRICT. WE HAD 37 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED THE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR. THEY ACTUALLY DID INDEED RECEIVE A $2,500

SCHOLARSHIP. AND SO WE HAD 16 STUDENTS REPRESENTED FROM CLEMENTS. WE HAD SEVEN REPRESENTED FROM DULLES. WE HAD SIX REPRESENTED FROM ELKINS, FOUR REPRESENTED FROM AUSTIN, THREE REPRESENTED FROM TRAVIS, AND ONE STUDENT REPRESENTED FROM RIDGE POINT HIGH SCHOOL. AND SO, AS YOU KNOW, THE NATIONAL MERIT SCHOLAR IS A PRESTIGIOUS TITLE. IT'S EARNED THROUGH RIGOROUS ACADEMIC COMPETITION. THESE STUDENTS MAKE UP LESS THAN 1% OF ALL SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN THE COUNTRY. AND SO THIS IS AN AWESOME FEAT FOR OUR STUDENTS. JUST TO CONTINUE DEMONSTRATION OF THE EXCELLENCE IN FORT BEND ISD. AND SO CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF OUR SCHOLARS, THEIR PARENTS, AND THE TEACHERS WHO WORK WITH THEM FOR THIS EXCEPTIONAL ACCOMPLISHMENT.

THE NEXT ITEM I'D LIKE TO HIGHLIGHT IS IN OUR FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT. OF COURSE, WANT TO RECOGNIZE MR. DREW. I DON'T SEE HIM HERE THIS EVENING. HE WANTED TO SAY HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HIM, LEARNED HE HAD A BIRTHDAY OVER THE WEEKEND, BUT JUST APPRECIATE HIS LEADERSHIP IN THE FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT. THEY CONTINUE TO RECEIVE RECOGNITION FROM ACROSS THE STATE. THEY RECEIVED TWO DESIGNATIONS HERE RECENTLY. THE FIRST, THE FORT BEND ISD, IS AMONG AN ELITE GROUP OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT RECEIVED THE 2025 DISTRICT OF DISTINCTION AWARD FROM THE TEXAS ART EDUCATION ASSOCIATION. THIS AWARD HONORS DISTRICTS THAT ARE INTENTIONAL WITH INTEGRATING VISUAL ARTS INTO THEIR CURRICULUM. SO THERE ARE MORE THAN 1200 SCHOOL DISTRICTS IN TEXAS THAT ARE ELIGIBLE TO APPLY. ONLY 109 OF THE 1200 MET THE HIGH STANDARDS. AND SO THIS PLACE IS OUR DISTRICT IN THE TOP 8% STATEWIDE FOR EXCELLENCE IN ART EDUCATION. SO WE'RE REALLY, REALLY PROUD OF THEIR ONGOING SUCCESS. IN ADDITION, THE FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT EARNED NATIONAL RECOGNITION AS A PREMIER COMMUNITY FOR THEATER EDUCATION. THIS WAS GIVEN TO US FROM THE EDUCATIONAL THEATER ASSOCIATION. AGAIN, THESE HONORS CELEBRATE THE DISTRICT'S STRONG COMMITMENT TO PROVIDING ALL OF OUR STUDENTS WITH ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY FINE ARTS PROGRAMS. SO, MR. DREW AND YOUR TEAM OF EXCELLENT LEADERS, WE APPRECIATE YOU ALL FOR CONTINUING THE LEGACY THAT YOU'VE ESTABLISHED, NOT JUST STATEWIDE, BUT NATIONALLY, KEEPING FORT BEND ISD ON THE MAP. THE 25, THE 20 2526 HIGH SCHOOL PRINCIPAL OF THE YEAR. IN REGION FOUR, THERE ARE OVER 54 PLUS DISTRICTS IN REGION FOUR. SO WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT HER AND THE WORK THAT SHE'S DOING TO BE RECOGNIZED AT THE STATE LEVEL. SHE WAS NOMINATED BY ONE OF HER PEER PRINCIPALS, DOCTOR DANIEL JACKSON. AND IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT DOCTOR ROBERTS UNDER HER LEADERSHIP AT WILLOWRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL, SHE'S REALLY MADE GREAT STRIDES ACADEMICALLY. SHE'S CLOSED THE ACADEMIC GAPS AND SHE'S CONTINUING TO BUILD A CULTURE OF EXCELLENCE AT WILLOWRIDGE HIGH SCHOOL, AND WE APPRECIATE HER AND HER LEADERSHIP. LAST SCHOOL YEAR, WE CELEBRATED THE SCHOOL'S EXIT FROM THE CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT LIST, AND SO THAT WAS REALLY A HIGHLIGHT OF HER LEADERSHIP LAST YEAR. AND SHE'S CONTINUING TO PROVIDE GREAT LEADERSHIP. AND SO WE WISH HER THE BEST AS SHE MOVES ON NOW TO THE STATE STATE COMPETITION, COMPETITION. SO WE'RE EXCITED FOR HER THERE AND THEN THE NEXT LEADERSHIP MATTERS. AND SO OUR LEADERSHIP SUMMIT IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL THE LEADERS TO REALLY COME TOGETHER AND TO REALLY BUILD THE LEADERSHIP, FOCUS AND MOMENTUM FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR. AND SO THERE WAS A LOT OF HIGH ENERGY, A LOT OF ENTHUSIASM, A LOT OF LEARNING. AND OUR LEADERS HAVE EMBRACED THE CHALLENGE TO LEVEL UP THIS YEAR AND CONTINUE BUILDING ON THEIR SUCCESSES FROM LAST SCHOOL YEAR. AND THEN THIS MORNING EARLIER TODAY, WE WELCOMED 550 NEW TEACHERS WHO ARE JOINING FORT BEND ISD. AND AT OUR NEW TEACHER ORIENTATION, THEY HAD AN OPPORTUNITY TO HEAR FROM OUR BOARD PRESIDENT, MEET SEVERAL OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS THAT WERE IN ATTENDANCE. AND SO IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE TO BRING EDUCATORS THAT ARE GOING TO HELP US LEVEL UP FOR THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR. I WANT TO THANK OUR EXCEPTIONAL COMMUNITY MEMBERS WHO FELT CALLED TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS FOR THE VACANT TRUSTEE POSITION, YOUR INTEREST AND DEDICATION TO THE DISTRICT AND THE CHILDREN IT SERVES IS SO VERY VALUABLE TO OUR COMMUNITY. WE RECEIVED MANY QUALIFIED APPLICANTS, PERHAPS BECAUSE WE EACH BRING DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES AND VOICES REPRESENTING DIFFERENT SEGMENTS OF OUR COMMUNITY. WE AS A BOARD WERE UNABLE TO REACH CONSENSUS ON ONE CANDIDATE AT THIS TIME. SO FOR NOW, WE PLAN TO LEAVE THE VACANT POSITION UNFILLED UNTIL THE NEXT ELECTION, WHEN OUR VOTERS WILL DECIDE WHO SHOULD REPRESENT OUR COMMUNITY IN THIS POSITION. THE RECENT POSITION BY THE DISTRICT THAT ICS DO NOT FIT NECESSARILY THE DEFINITION OF CLASSROOM TEACHERS RAISES SEVERAL CONCERNS. NUMBER ONE, INSTRUCTIONAL TIME VERSUS CLASSIFICATION ARCS ARE NO LONGER RECOGNIZED AS CLASSROOM TEACHERS. DOES THIS MEAN THEY ARE EXPECTED TO LIMIT THEIR TIME ON CLASSROOMS OR IN CLASSROOMS TO UNDER 20 HOURS PER WEEK, REGARDLESS OF TEACHERS ON CAMPUS, OR REGARDLESS OF THE TEACHERS, OR IF THEY ARE ON OR OFF THE CAMPUS, OR REGARDLESS OF TEACHER NEEDS. THIS RESTRICTION CONTRADICTS THE REALITY ON CAMPUSES, WHERE ICS ARE OFTEN CALLED UPON TO COVER CLASSES, PROVIDE SMALL GROUP INTERVENTIONS, SUPPORT DURING SATURDAY TUTORIALS, OR STEP IN DURING VACANCIES. IN MANY CASES, ICS WRITE LESSON PLANS, DELIVER INSTRUCTION, ASSIGN GRADES, AND SERVE AS THE SOLE CONTENT EXPERT ON CAMPUS DURING A TEACHER'S ABSENCE. SHOULD THESE DUTIES BE REDUCED OR DISTRIBUTED TO CLASSROOM TEACHERS WHO ARE ALREADY STRUGGLING WITH CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND PEDAGOGY, LEADING TO OVERCROWDED CLASSROOMS AND DIMINISHED STUDENT SUPPORT? NUMBER TWO QUALIFICATIONS AND PAY EQUITY

ICS ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE AT LEAST FIVE YEARS OF CLASSROOM EXPERIENCE, A MINIMUM OF TWO YEARS IN TEACHER LEADERSHIP ROLES, PREFERABLY PREFERABLY A MASTER'S DEGREE. DESPITE THESE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPANDED RESPONSIBILITIES, ICS IS OFTEN EARNED LESS PER DAY THAN THE AVERAGE OR VERY THAN THE VERY TEACHERS THAT THEY'RE COACHING. THIS INEQUITY IS DISHEARTENING AND SENDS A MESSAGE THAT DISTRICTS THAT THE DISTRICT DOES NOT RECOGNIZE OR VALUE THE CONTRIBUTIONS OF ITS INSTRUCTIONAL LEADERS. NUMBER THREE, FUNDING AND SUSTAINABILITY ICS IS IN FBISD ARE FUNDED THROUGH TITLE ONE AND THEREFORE ANY ANNUAL RAISE IMPACTS ONLY A SMALL TARGETED GROUP, NOT THE ENTIRE TEACHING STAFF. HISTORICALLY, ICS HAVE BEEN TIED TO THE TEACHER PAY AND HAVE RECEIVED THE SAME RAISES. EXCUSE ME. OKAY. THANK YOU. AND I RECEIVED THE SAME RAISES. NOT ONLY DO WE HAVE FOUR POINTS GROWTH COMPARED TO LAST YEAR AT THE MEETS LEVEL, WE ACTUALLY HAD FOUR POINT GROWTH AS WELL AT APPROACHES AND THEN FIVE POINTS GROWTH. AND WE LOOK AT OUR MASTER'S LEVEL STUDENTS. AND SO THIS IS A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK THAT MELISSA AND HER TEAM HAVE DONE AND SHARING THAT WE'RE REALLY FOCUSING ON THOSE FOUNDATIONAL LITERACY SKILLS. AND WE SEE THAT FRUIT STARTING TO TAKE ROOT. RIGHT. IT WAS THE SAME THING THAT WE SAW IN OUR MATH ASSESSMENT. RIGHT. MAP SAID THAT WE HAVE SOME AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY REALLY IN THAT SIXTH GRADE TRANSITIONAL SPACE. RIGHT. SO AS WE REMEMBER THAT IN FIFTH GRADE, WE HAVE 150 MINUTE LITERACY BLOCK. THE STUDENTS ARE WITH THOSE TEACHERS, THEY'RE ENGAGED. AND THEN WHEN WE GET TO SIXTH GRADE NOW WE HAVE A CLASS PERIOD. SO NOW WE HAVE 45 MINUTES OF LITERACY. SO WE'RE REALLY WORKING ON BUILDING CAPACITY. WE'RE GOING TO TALK AT THE BACK END OF SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE FOCUSED ON DOING. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT I DID WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THOUGH IS SO, YOU KNOW, WE LOOK AT OUR SEVENTH GRADE, WE SAID, OH, WE WENT DOWN, WE HAD A DIP. WE WERE AT 63 PERCENTAGE POINTS IN 20 24, 62 AND 2025. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT'S SUPER INTERESTING THERE IS THAT OUR STUDENTS, THOUGH, WHEN WE LOOK AT THE SO THERE'S A WRITING COMPONENT BUILT INTO THE READING TEST. AND STUDENTS CAN GET A MAXIMUM OF TEN POINTS. IT'S GRADED TWICE BY I. SO IT'S FIVE TIMES TWO IS TEN. IT'S VERY EXCITING. BUT OUR STUDENTS, THEY AT 4.3 POINTS ON THAT. THEY ACTUALLY SCORED BETTER THAN THE STATE AND REGION. AND NEITHER THE STATE OR THE REGION WERE AT FOUR POINTS. SO WE DIDN'T HAVE THE NECESSARILY GROWTH THAT WE WANTED TO SEE IN THAT. OUR STUDENTS WRITING IS STILL TAKING EFFECT. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE WANTED TO HIGHLIGHT AS WELL IS IF WE LOOK AT OUR SIXTH GRADE GROUP, WHEN THEY WERE IN FIFTH GRADE, THEY WERE SCORING. THEY SCORED ABOUT THREE POINTS ON THE WRITING ASSESSMENT. THAT SAME COHORT GROUP CAME BACK THIS YEAR AND SCORED 4.8 POINTS. AND SO WE'RE SEEING THAT WORK TAKE ROOT. WE'RE SEEING THAT THAT HAPPEN. AND SO WHILE WE DIDN'T NECESSARILY HAVE THAT GROWTH OR MAINTAIN THAT OUR STUDENTS ARE HAVING SUCCESS. AND SO, YOU KNOW, WE ARE EXCITED TO SEE THAT ACROSS THE BOARD OUR READING LANGUAGE ARTS, WE WERE UP IN APPROACHES UP IN MEETS AND UP IN MASTERS. SO IT IS A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK OF OUR TEACHERS. WE OUTPERFORMED BOTH THE STATE AND THE REGION. AND SO WE ARE JUST CONTINUING TO FOCUS ON BUILDING THAT CONNECTION TO LITERACY AND WRITING. WE REALLY WANT TO MAKE THE LITTLE THINGS, BECAUSE WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT AS OUR LITERACY INSTRUCTION GETS BETTER, AS OUR READING INSTRUCTION GETS BETTER, OUR WRITING IS GOING TO GET BETTER. BUT AS OUR READING INSTRUCTION GETS BETTER, OUR SCIENCE INSTRUCTION IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO GET BETTER. SO WE ARE JUST REALLY FOCUSED ON THIS. WE SELL AGAIN AT SIX AND SEVENTH GRADE AND WE LOOKED AT OUR DATA. WE DIDN'T HAVE THAT GROWTH. WE WERE DOWN A POINT AND TWO POINTS. WHAT WE SAW IS THAT FOR THE STATE, THEY WERE ACTUALLY DOWN IN THESE SAME AREAS. SO OUR TRENDS MIRROR KIND OF WHAT WE SAW AT THE STATE AND THE REGION LEVEL IN THIS. AND THEN WE GET INTO. AND SO THEN WE GET INTO MATH. SO MATH IS ONE OF THOSE AREAS WHERE WE KNOW THAT IT TAKES TIME. WE ALSO KNOW THAT MATH ALSO MIRRORED THE RESULTS THAT WE SAW ON THE MAP ASSESSMENTS. WE SAW THAT NOT ONLY WERE OUR SCORES UP, WE HAD A 2% GROWTH WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR MATH TOTAL, BUT WE WERE UP ACROSS THE BOARD. AND AGAIN, I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT THIRD GRADE. THIRD GRADE IS THAT REAL BIG AREA. THAT'S THAT FIRST OPPORTUNITY THAT THE STUDENTS HAVE TO ENGAGE WITH THE STANDARDIZED TEST. THERE'S ALWAYS SOME NERVES. SO NOT ONLY DID OUR THIRD GRADE COHORT OUTPERFORM THEIR PEERS LAST YEAR, WE ACTUALLY HAD A SEVEN PERCENTAGE POINT GROWTH IN OUR NUMBER OF THIRD GRADE STUDENTS WHO WERE SCORING AT THE MASTER'S LEVEL. SO THAT'S JUST A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK THAT'S TAKING PLACE IN THE CLASSROOMS. AND WE KNOW THAT ACROSS THE BOARD, WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR MATH FOR THE APPROACHES MEETS AND THE MASTER'S LEVEL, WE EITHER MAINTAINED OR WE GREW. AND SO THAT'S JUST SOME WORK THAT THE MATH TEAM IS DOING. THE CURRICULUM TEAM IS DOING, THE CAMPUS LEADERSHIP TEAM IS DOING, AND STILL KIND OF GETTING IN THERE. THE ONE AREA THAT JUMPS OUT AS YOU LOOK AT THIS DATA IS YOU SAID, WELL, TELL US WHAT'S HAPPENING IN EIGHTH GRADE ENGLISH, SORRY, EIGHTH GRADE MATH. SO REMEMBER THAT WHEN WE TALK TO YOU ABOUT OUR MATH DATA, WE KNOW THAT WE HAVE A SUBSECTION OF OUR STUDENTS. WE ACTUALLY HAVE 2137 EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS THAT ARE ACTUALLY TAKING ALGEBRA ONE AS EIGHTH GRADERS. RIGHT. AND SO WHEN WE LOOK AT OUR MAP DATA, OUR STAR DATA, THESE ARE JUST THE STUDENTS THAT TOOK EIGHTH GRADE MATH. SO WHAT WE KNOW IS THAT WHEN WE PUT OUR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS THAT TAKE ALGEBRA ONE, 99% OF THEM PASSED THE ASSESSMENT, 92% OF THEM SCORED AT THE MEETS LEVEL AND 81% OF THEM SCORED AT THE MASTER'S LEVEL. SO OUR EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS THAT ARE CHALLENGING THAT ALGEBRA ONE ASSESSMENT ARE HAVING SUCCESS. SO THIS THIS DATA DOESN'T NECESSARILY TELL THE WHOLE STORY. AND SO ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT NEXT YEAR AS WELL IS THAT FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS THAT WE'VE HEARD FROM FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY, WE'VE HEARD FROM TEACHERS ON CAMPUS THAT WE HAVE STUDENTS THAT ARE READY FOR THE RIGOR AND CHALLENGE OF ALGEBRA ONE CLASS, BUT THEY'RE MAYBE NOT READY TO TAKE IT AT THAT HONORS LEVEL OR THAT ARC LEVEL. SO WE'VE OFFERED WE'VE HAD STUDENTS TAKE US UP. SO NOW WE'LL OFFER ON LEVEL ALGEBRA ONE ACROSS OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL. SO WE'LL HAVE MORE STUDENTS IN THE EIGHTH GRADE LEVEL TAKING ALGEBRA ONE. SO WE THINK IT'S REALLY EXCITING TO EXPOSE OUR STUDENTS TO ANOTHER LEVEL OF RIGOR AND CHALLENGE AS THEY PREPARE TO ENTER HIGH SCHOOL.

AND AGAIN, WHAT WE SEE IS ACROSS THE BOARD, NOT ONLY DID WE HAVE SUCCESS IN THE READING LEVEL, WE ALSO CONTINUED TO HAVE SUCCESS AND OUTPERFORM THE STATE IN THE REGION. AGAIN, WE LOOK AT THAT EIGHTH GRADE MATH. THERE WAS A LITTLE BIT OF NOT AS SUCCESSFUL AS WE WANTED TO BE, BUT AGAIN, IF WE FACTORED OUR EIGHTH GRADE ALGEBRA ONE STUDENTS IN THAT DATA WOULD LOOK REALLY ROBUST. I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT REALLY TWO AREAS. SO IF WE LOOK AT FIFTH GRADE FOR THE STATE AND SEVENTH GRADE, WE ACTUALLY CONTINUE TO HAVE GROWTH THERE OR MAINTAINED. AND THE STATE ACTUALLY REGRESSED IN BOTH OF THOSE AREAS. SO AGAIN, IT'S JUST A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK THAT OUR TEACHERS ARE DOING, THE WORK THAT OUR CAMPUS LEADERS ARE DOING, THE WORK THAT OUR CURRICULUM TEAMS DOING, TRANSITIONING TO SCIENCE. AND SO SCIENCE HAS BEEN GREAT FOR US. WE'VE GOT IT. WE'VE WORKED WITH OUR NEW SCIENCE CURRICULUM. WE'VE HAD THE NEW SCIENCE TEAM. THE TEAM HAS REALLY WORKED FOR THE PAST TWO AND A HALF YEARS, DURING THE YEAR, THROUGHOUT THE SUMMER, TO REALLY ENSURE AND BUILD CAPACITY IN OUR SCIENCE TEACHERS, TO HAVE THEM FEEL COMFORTABLE WITH WHAT THEY'RE TEACHING. AND AS A RESULT, WHAT WE SAW IS THAT ACROSS THE BOARD, OUR TOTAL GROWTH IN SCIENCE WAS ABOUT FOUR POINTS. WE WERE REALLY EXCITED FOR FIFTH GRADE. WE SAW FIVE POINT GROWTH AT MEETS, BUT ALL SEVEN PERCENTAGE POINT GROWTH THAT APPROACHES. SO WE KNOW THAT THAT WORK IS HAPPENING. AND SO WE ALSO SAW A THREE POINT GROWTH IN IN THE EIGHTH GRADE LEVEL AS WELL. AND THEN IF WE LOOKED AT APPROACHES MEETS AND MASTERS, WE HAD GROWTH AT ALL THREE AREAS FOR BOTH FIFTH AND EIGHTH GRADE. SO AGAIN, THIS IS JUST A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK THAT'S HAPPENING. SO WE'RE EXCITED ABOUT THAT. ONE OF THE AREAS OF OPPORTUNITY FOR NOT ONLY FORT BEND ISD, BUT ALSO THE STATE IS JUST CONTINUING TO DIG IN TO SOCIAL STUDIES. SO WE KNOW THAT IN 2023, THEY ANNOUNCED THE REDESIGN TO SOME OF THE TEAKS. AND SO FOR US, IT'S JUST REALLY MAKING SURE THAT OUR CURRICULUM IS ALIGNED TO THE SCOPE AND SEQUENCE, TO THE BLUEPRINTS THAT THE STATE PUTS OUT WHERE THERE WERE THREE KIND OF BIG AREAS. WHAT WE SAW IS THAT THIS YEAR ALONE, THERE WERE FOUR AREAS THAT THE STATE HADN'T TESTED IN THE LAST SCHOOL YEAR OR THE LAST FEW SCHOOL YEARS THAT MAGICALLY SHOWED UP ON THE ASSESSMENT. AND THERE WERE EIGHT AREAS THAT HAD PREVIOUSLY BEEN ASSESSED IN

SOCIAL STUDIES THAT WEREN'T ASSESSED. SO THERE ARE A COUPLE CHANGES THAT WE SAW BOTH ON THE EIGHTH GRADE AND ON THE US HISTORY. THEY WERE MORE FOCUSED ON READINESS STANDARDS AND SUPPORTING STANDARDS. AND SO THERE WAS A LITTLE SHIFT THERE. BUT THIS CONTINUES TO BE AN AREA OF OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO KIND OF POUR IN AND REALLY SPEND SOME TIME UNPACKING THE CURRICULUM AND MAKING SURE THAT WE ARE MEETING THOSE STUDENTS NEEDS. SO WE'RE EXCITED TO CONTINUE THAT WORK THIS SUMMER. EVEN WITH THAT SAID, WHAT WE SAW FOR OUR SOCIAL STUDIES SCORES, EIGHTH GRADE SOCIAL STUDIES SCORES WHEN COMPARED TO THE STATE AND REGION FOUR, WE SCORED TEN POINTS BETTER THAN THE STATE AND NINE POINTS BETTER THAN REGION FOUR. SO OUR STUDENTS AND TEACHERS ARE CONTINUING TO HAVE HAVE SUCCESS WHEN THEY'RE COMPARED TO THEIR NEIGHBORING SCHOOL DISTRICTS.

FIFTH GRADE SCIENCE IS, AGAIN, SOMETHING THAT WE'RE SUPER PROUD OF. WE WERE AT 34%. THAT'S FIVE POINTS GROWTH. AND THEN EIGHTH GRADE SCIENCE AS WELL. WE'RE STILL GOING STRONG. AND SO WE CONTINUE TO SURPASS THE REGION AND THE STATE IN ALL OF OUR FIFTH AND EIGHTH GRADE SCIENCE AND SOCIAL STUDIES. THE LAST THING THAT WE WANT TO CIRCLE BACK AND FOCUS ON IS OUR EOC SCORES. SO WE SEE ACROSS THE BOARD THAT ALGEBRA ONE WE HAD TWO POINTS. GROWTH BIOLOGY. WE HAD EIGHT POINTS, GROWTH US HISTORY. WE HAD ONE POINTS GROWTH. WHAT WE SAW THOUGH IS THAT IN ENGLISH ONE AND ENGLISH TWO, OUR PERFORMANCE ON THE END OF COURSE EXAM ALSO MIRRORED WHAT WE SAW AT THE STATE. SO AT THE STATE LEVEL, THEY SAW A THREE PERCENTAGE POINT DECLINE IN ENGLISH ONE AND A FOUR PERCENTAGE POINT DECLINE IN ENGLISH TWO. AND SO AS WE GET INTO THE BACK END, I'LL TALK TO YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SOME OF THE CHANGES THAT WE'RE MAKING TO REALLY ENSURE THAT WE'RE BUILDING CAPACITY IN OUR TEACHERS AND MAKING SURE OUR STUDENTS ARE REALLY COMFORTABLE WITH ASSESSMENT. THEY HAVE THAT ASSESSMENT LITERACY SO THEY CAN REALLY BE SUCCESSFUL IN THAT. AND THAT'S JUST AGAIN, THAT HIGHLIGHTS THE WORK THAT THIS DISTRICT HAS DONE IN BUILDING CAPACITY AND LEVERAGING THAT THAT NEW SCIENCE CURRICULUM AND MAKING SURE OUR TEACHERS ARE REALLY COMFORTABLE WITH THAT. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE'VE DONE, WE WERE CHALLENGED AT THE START OF THE SCHOOL YEAR TO REALLY FOCUS IN ON THOSE SCHOOLS THAT HADN'T MADE THE PROGRESS THAT TRADITIONALLY WE WOULD EXPECT. WE WERE EXCITED BECAUSE WE HAD 19 OF THE 20 SCHOOLS SAW GAINS IN AT LEAST ONE CONTENT AREA. AND SO THAT'S A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK OF OUR INSTRUCTIONAL COACHES, TO THE WORK OF OUR CURRICULUM TEAMS, THE WORK OF OUR OD TEAMS, THE WORK OF OUR DSL TEAMS WHO ENGAGED IN CONSISTENT LEARNING WALKS AND PROVIDED FEEDBACK. AND SO, AGAIN, THAT'S JUST A TESTAMENT TO THE WORK THAT'S BEING DONE IN THE SCHOOLS ACROSS FORT BEND.

IT'S US AND ANOTHER DISTRICT THAT SHALL NOT BE NAMED. AND SO, YOU KNOW, WE'RE JUST OUR RESULTS ARE SPEAKING FOR THEMSELVES. OUR TEACHERS ARE WORKING HARD, OUR LEADERS ARE WORKING HARD, AND THE RESULTS ARE REALLY STARTING TO SHOW. SO THAT GETS US TO SO YOU'VE HAD SOME SUCCESS. SO WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO. YOU KNOW, IN THE PAST, WE LEVERAGED ALL THESE DEVICES AND WE'D HAVE DIFFERENT KIND OF STRATEGIES THAT WOULD WORK.
