[00:05:04]
OUR K THROUGH 12 EDUCATION, HIGHER LEARNING INSTITUTIONS, HEALTH CARE PARTNERS AND, OF COURSE, COMMUNITY BASED ORGANIZATIONS. WE COLLECTED SECONDARY DATA, WHICH INCLUDED DATA FROM THE CDC AND COUNTY HEALTH RANKINGS, AND WE ALSO WERE ABLE TO COLLECT PRIMARY DATA FROM OUR COMMUNITY. THIS INCLUDED 25 KEY INFORMANT INTERVIEWS 845 COMMUNITY SURVEYS THAT WE COLLECTED FROM RESIDENTS WHO WERE AT LIBRARIES ONLINE THROUGH OUR SENIOR CENTERS AND COMMUNITY OUTREACH EVENTS AND, OF COURSE, OUR FAITH BASED PARTNERS. THIS THIS WAS ABLE TO.WE WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS THROUGH THOSE SURVEYS. THE INPUT CAME FROM HEALTH CARE, HEALTH BEHAVIORS, SOCIAL COMMUNITY FACTORS, PHYSICAL BUILT ENVIRONMENT AND ALL THAT INFORMATION PRODUCED OUR HEALTH OUTCOMES IN OUR COMMUNITY. WE WERE ABLE TO SPLIT UP THAT DATA INTO QUANTITATIVE DATA AND QUALITATIVE DATA. WE WERE ABLE TO ASSESS THE DATA AGAINST, UM PERFORMANCE BENCHMARKS, THOSE THAT WERE SET BY HEALTHY PEOPLE 2020 30, THEN WE ALSO WERE LOOKING AT THE REOCCURRING THEMES FROM THE PUBLIC. HOW MANY TIMES DID SOMEONE INTRODUCE A HEALTH ISSUE OF CONCERN FROM THEIR COMMUNITY? HOW MANY TIMES DID THOSE COME UP? WE WERE ABLE TO ALSO LOOK AT THIS DATA FROM ACROSS DIFFERENT SOURCES AND COME UP WITH OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH NEEDS. SO OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH FINDINGS LED US TO CREATING OUR COMMUNITY HEALTH IMPROVEMENT PLAN. THIS IS WHERE WE WERE ABLE TO DEFINE OUR COMMUNITIES. [00:15:22]
OK, GREAT. HEY, GUYS. SO IF YOU'VE BEEN ON SHAQ FOR, UM, A WHILE, YOU'LL KNOW THE WELLNESS POLICY IS REALLY LIKE CLOSE AND DEAR TO OUR HEARTS. SO UM, THIS YEAR WE WERE SUPER EXCITED THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING WOULD HELP US WITH THIS, UM, EVALUATION BECAUSE, UM, WE REALLY WANT TO HAVE A GOOD ONE BECAUSE WE FEEL EVALUATION SHOULD REALLY HIGHLIGHT THE THINGS THAT WE'RE DOING GOOD, BUT ALSO IDENTIFY ANY GAPS OR AREAS OF, UM, IMPROVEMENT. THAT'S ALSO KIND OF WHAT SHAQ DOES FOR OUR DISTRICT, RIGHT? IT REALLY PROVIDES ANOTHER PERSPECTIVE OF PARENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO GIVE US A VISION AND SOME LIGHT ON MAYBE THE THINGS THAT WERE NOT ADDRESSING OR NOT SEEING. SO WE REALLY VALUE SHAQ, THE WELLNESS POLICY AND THIS EVALUATION. SO WHAT IS THE WELLNESS POLICY? IT IS, UM, A POLICY THAT REALLY HELPS THE DISTRICT FOSTER A CULTURE AND ENCOURAGES, UM, EMPOWERMENT OF FOR STUDENTS TO MAKE HEALTHY DECISIONS. UM, IT REALLY FOCUSES ON NUTRITION, MENTAL HEALTH, WELLNESS, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY, AND THEN OUR OVERALL WELL BEING WHICH WE CALL THE WHOLE CHILD. THE OBJECTIVE OF THE WELLNESS POLICY IS REALLY TO PROMOTE THOSE THINGS AND MAKE SURE THAT THE DISTRICT AND CAMPUSES ARE DOING THOSE THINGS. THE POLICY DEVELOPMENT IS REALLY COMPOSED OF DISTRICT DEPARTMENTS AND SHAQ WORKING TOGETHER TO CREATE THE POLICY AND THEN GO OUT AND IMPLEMENT THE POLICY.THE POLICY HAS REQUIRED CATEGORIES. UM THOSE ARE WELLNESS, WHICH INCLUDES OUR CAMPUS WELLNESS COMMITTEES, NUTRITION, EDUCATION, NUTRITION PROMOTION, PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AND THEN OTHER SCHOOL BASE, WHICH IS PRETTY WIDE. IT CAN INCLUDE MENTAL HEALTH, HEALTH SERVICES, TRAUMA, INFORMED CARE, RESTORATIVE. ALL THOSE THINGS. UM IMPLEMENTATION REALLY INVOLVES, UM, COLLABORATION ACROSS MANY DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS. UM, SHAQ HELPS US WITH THAT, AND THEN WE REALLY ALSO RELY ON OUR CAMPUS. ITS COMMITTEES BECAUSE THEY ARE THE BOOTS ON THE GROUND AT OUR CAMPUSES, MAKING SURE THAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING. UM AND THEN THEY'RE ALSO THE ONES A LOT OF TIMES IMPLEMENTING THOSE RESOURCES THAT WE SHARE. ALL RIGHT. SO UM, I KNOW ALISON JUST MENTIONED THE WELLNESS. UM, POLICY, WHICH IS F FA LOCAL. IT IS REQUIRED THAT WE DO A TRIENNIAL ASSESSMENT, SO THE ASSESSMENT IS MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE BEING COMPLIANT. UM DURING THE FALL OF 2023. SO THIS YEAR, SO JUST THE LAST, UM MAYBE SIX MONTHS WE'VE WORKED WITH THE DEPARTMENT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING TO DO THIS, UM, PROGRAM EVALUATION. UM THE TRIENNIAL ASSESSMENT REQUIRES THREE AREAS TO BE EVALUATED, SO THE FIRST ONE IS FIDELITY OF IMPLEMENTATION. IS IT ACTUALLY HAPPENING? UM, AND THEN WE HAVE TO COMPARE OUR WELLNESS POLICY TO OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS POLICIES AND WE'LL GO THROUGH KIND OF HOW WE DID THAT. AND THEN OUR PROGRESS TOWARDS OUR GOALS. ARE WE MEETING THEM? ARE WE CLOSE TO THEM OR ARE THERE SOME? WE'RE JUST NOT MEETING UM, WHEN THE EVALUATION WAS DONE, WE JUST DIDN'T LOOK AT ONE DATA SOURCE. WE LOOKED AT MULTIPLE. SO OUR CAMPUSES DO A DIS THEY DO A CAMPUS WELLNESS ASSESSMENT, SO THEY SELF ASSESS HOW THEY'RE DOING OR HOW THEY FEEL THEY'RE DOING IN THE DIFFERENT GOALS. SO THAT'S 11 METRIC THAT WE USE. STAKEHOLDER FEEDBACK WAS ANOTHER ONE. SO WE CREATED A SURVEY THAT WENT OUT TO, UM DIFFERENT TEACHERS IN THE DISTRICT TO KIND OF SEE WHAT THE TEACHER'S PERSPECTIVE WAS ABOUT HOW WELLNESS WAS HAPPENING ON THEIR CAMPUS AND THEN POLICY AND DOCUMENTATION REVIEW. SO OTHER THINGS, UM, WE LOOKED AT A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS LIKE WE LOOKED AT MASTER SCHEDULES. WE LOOKED AT CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS LOOKED AT ANYTHING THAT WOULD BE ASSOCIATED TO THE WELLNESS GOALS THAT WERE INCLUDED. SO WHAT WE DO WITH THE WELLNESS EVALUATION. SO THE EVAL THE EVALUATION WILL, UM, REALLY BE LOOKED AT BY SHAQ AND DIFFERENT DEPARTMENTS AND THEN WE'LL USE THAT INFORMATION TO MAKE ANY NEEDED RECOMMENDATIONS OR SUGGESTED RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE POLICY SO WE WOULD TAKE THOSE POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS TO THE SCHOOL BOARD. ALL RIGHT. SO I'M GONNA TAKE YOU THROUGH THOSE THREE THINGS THAT WE HAD TO LOOK AT. SO THIS ONE IS FIDELITY OF IMPLEMENTATION. AND WITH THIS ONE, WE REALLY LOOKED AT THE CAMPUS WELLNESS WELLNESS COMMITTEES AND HOW THEY ASSESSED IF THEY WERE DOING THESE THINGS ON A CAMPUS OR NOT. SO IF YOU LOOK AT THIS WHAT THE CAMPUS WELLNESS ASSESSMENT IS, IT'S A DOCUMENT THAT THE CAMPUSES, UM GET TOGETHER. SO THE CAMPUS WELLNESS COMMITTEE, IF YOU DON'T KNOW IS USUALLY A PRINCIPAL, A NURSE, A PE TEACHER. UM AND THEN ANYONE ELSE ON THE CAMPUS THAT'S REALLY INTERESTED IN WELLNESS. WE ALSO ENCOURAGE PARENTS AND STUDENTS TO BE PART OF THAT COMMITTEE. UM, SO IT'S NOT JUST THE PRINCIPAL GOING IN AND CHECKING OR XING IF THEY FEEL LIKE THEY GOT SOMETHING THAT IS AN ACTUAL GROUP ON A CAMPUS DOING THAT. SO HOW THE CAMPUS WELLNESS ASSESSMENT WORKS. UM DO THE CAMPUS WELLNESS ASSESSMENT
[00:20:05]
AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, AND THAT HELPS THEM IDENTIFY LIKE WHAT THEY'RE DOING REALLY WELL AND THEN ANY GAPS, AND FROM THERE, THEY CREATE GOALS THAT THEY WANT AS A CAMPUS TO WORK TOWARDS TO BE ABLE TO MEET THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE WELLNESS POLICY. UM SO THEY GO THROUGH AND THEY'LL JUST CHECK. YES NO. YES NO. YES NO. AND THEN AT THE END OF THE YEAR, THEY GO BACK.AND THEY DO THE WHOLE ASSESSMENT AGAIN. THE SAME ONE. SO NOW THEY'RE LOOKING AT. DID WE DO THE THINGS WE WERE DOING BEFORE? AND DID WE IMPROVE ON THE THINGS THAT WE WERE TRYING JAM PROVEN THROUGH OUR GOALS. SO THEY GO THROUGH AT THE END OF THE YEAR. SO THIS IS THE DATA FROM THE END OF THE YEAR, NOT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR. SO LAST YEAR'S DATA, SO FROM ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES, UM WE, UM HAD 96% OF THEM FEEL LIKE THEY WERE IN THE GOLD RANGE, WHICH MEANS THEY WERE MEETING 85% OR MORE OF THE GOALS OF THE WELLNESS POLICY. WE HAD 4% THAT FELT LIKE THEY WEREN'T 85% BUT THEY WERE AT 70% OR MORE. AND THEN WE HAD ZERO THAT WERE AT BRONZE, WHICH MEANT WERE MEETING 70 PER BELOW. 70. AND THEN OF OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS, UM, WHEN THEY RID THEMSELVES 87% OF THEM SO 13 OF THEM, UM, FELT LIKE THEY WERE IN THAT GOLD RANGE. UM, 13% OF THEM, OR TWO OF THEM FELT THEY WERE IN THE SILVER RANGE AND NONE IN THE BRONZE RANGE. HIGH SCHOOL. WE HAD EIGHT SO 73% FELT LIKE THEY WERE. THEY WERE GOLD. THEY WERE ROCKING IT. UM 27% WHICH WAS THREE OF THEM FELT LIKE THEY WERE IN SILVER AND WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY IN BRONZE. SO THAT WAS AN IMPROVEMENT FROM LAST YEAR BECAUSE WE HAD MORE IN SILVER AND BRONZE THE YEAR BEFORE. UM AND THEN OUR SPECIALTY SCHOOLS, SO THAT MIGHT BE, UM, LIKE THE CT CENTER, UM, PROGRESSIVE, THOSE CAMPUSES AND FOR THEM, IT'S A LITTLE HARDER BECAUSE KIDS ARE COMING AND GOING, UM, AND SOME OF THEM LIKE LAST YEAR LIKE SOME OF THEM DIDN'T HAVE LUNCH AND THOSE THINGS SO KIND OF HARDER FOR THEM TO REALLY ASSESS SOME OF THOSE GOALS. SO WE HAD ONE THAT FELT THEY WERE IN GOLD, ONE SILVER AND THEN ONE BRONZE. THE SECOND COMPARISON IS COMPARING OUR POLICY TO ANOTHER, UM TO OTHER DISTRICT POLICIES. SO WE USED, UM, WHAT'S CALLED THE WELL SAT IN THE WORLD SAT IS BROKEN UP INTO ABOUT SIX DIFFERENT CATEGORIES. UM SO WE WENT THROUGH AND WE SCORED FORT BERNARD'S WELL SAT AND THE SCORE GOES FROM 0 TO 100. SO UM, THERE ARE DIFFERENT AREAS. YOU HAVE THE COMPREHENSIVE SCORE, WHICH IS THE PERCENT OF ANYTHING THAT WE SAID YES, WE HIT IT AT A ONE OR TWO BECAUSE IT'S A 0 TO 2 RANGE AND THEN THE STRENGTH SCORE, WHICH IS WHAT AREA WERE YOU LIKE ROCKING IT THE MOST. OK SO AGAIN, THOSE SCORES ARE 0 TO 100. SO FOR BEN IN THE COMP, UM, COMPREHENSIVE SCORE. OURS WAS A 72.3, WHICH YOU CAN SEE IS A MUCH HIGHER THAN OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS. AND THEN OUR STRENGTH SCORE. SO THE AREA WE WERE THE STRONGEST IN WAS THE 64.04, WHICH YOU CAN SEE AGAIN IS MUCH HIGHER THAN OTHERS. SO WE'RE SUPER EXCITED THAT WE'RE HIGHER THAN OTHERS, BUT WE WOULD LIKE TO BE A LITTLE BIT CLOSER TO THE 100. BUT AGAIN. THIS IS A VERY COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT. YOU CAN ASK OUR EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE THEY HELP GO THROUGH AND COMPLETE THIS. UM EACH ONE TAKES PROBABLY ABOUT AN HOUR TO COMPLETE FOR EACH CAMPUS, SO IT'S VERY, UM, INVOLVED. UM, BUT WE WILL. WE CAN SHARE THAT WITH YOU IF YOU WANT TO LOOK AT IT.
UM, BUT THAT'S KIND OF WHERE THEY WERE ON THE SECOND ONE. WHERE WHERE THAT REQUIREMENT WAS COMPARING OUR POLICY TO OTHER POLICIES. AND THE THIRD ONE IS EVALUATION OF OUR PROGRESS TOWARDS OUR GOALS. SO OUR WELLNESS POLICY HAS WHEN I WROTE IT DOWN BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE TO ADD IT RIGHT NOW. 41 GOALS. IT'S A LOT OF GOALS, BUT THEY'RE REALLY GOOD GOALS. SO UM, WHAT WE DID HERE WE LOOKED AT A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS. SO AGAIN. WE WENT THROUGH EACH GOAL AND WE IDENTIFIED IN ANY DATA POINT. WE WOULD HAVE TO COLLECT INFORMATION ON THAT GOAL, SO IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN POLICIES. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN PROCEDURES. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN, UM, THE CAMPUS WELLNESS COMMITTEE. UM, ASSESSMENT. IT COULD BE A COMB. OF A BUNCH OF THINGS. SO HERE WHAT YOU'LL SEE ON THE CHART IS IF IT LOOKS LIKE THE DISTRICT MET THAT GOAL, WHICH WOULD BE 85 TO 100% IT WAS MARK GREEN. UM, IF IT WAS, AT LEAST 70% IT WAS YELLOW. AND THEN IF WE AS A DISTRICT WERE BELOW 70% ON THAT GOAL, IT WAS RED SO YOU CAN SEE THEIR WELLNESS GOALS, WHICH INCLUDES THOSE CAMPUS WELLNESS COMMITTEES AND CAMPUSES, CREATING GOALS. UM TO OF THOSE WE HIT AT GREEN, SO WE MET AND THEN FOUR OF THOSE WE WERE, UM, STILL AT YELLOW. SO WE'RE JUST WORKING TO MEET NUTRITION EDUCATION. FOUR OF THE FIVE WE MET AT WE MET WHICH ARE GREEN ONE WE'RE STILL WORKING ON. BUT WE'RE ABOVE THAT 70% NUTRITION PROMOTION AGAIN FOR THOSE FIVE WERE MET. PHYSICAL ACTIVITY HAS 16 SO NINE OF THOSE WERE MET, UM FIVE OF THOSE WERE WERE AND THET WAS NOT MET AND THEN SCHOOL BASED ACTIVITIES AND AGAIN, THAT'S REALLY WHERE WE'RE LOOKING AT MENTAL HEALTH. HEALTH SERVICES. ANYTHING THAT DOESN'T FALL IN THOSE OTHER CATEGORIES
[00:25:01]
THAT WE FEEL IS REALLY, UM, A AN ESSENTIAL PART OF WHOLE CHILD HEALTH. WE HAD TWO GOALS MET, THREE WERE STILL WORKING ON AND THEN UM, I'M SORRY. TWO MET, THREE WERE STILL WORKING ON AND THEN THREE. WE DID NOT MEET, SO THAT'S WHERE WE ARE THERE. SO THOSE ARE THE THREE THINGS REQUIRED OF THE TRIENNIAL ASSESSMENT. SO THOSE ARE KIND OF WHERE WE ARE ON EACH OF THOSE.AND THEN OUR KEY FINDINGS. SO WHEN THEY LOOKED AT EVERYTHING WHEN THE PROJECT UM EVALUATION WAS DONE HERE, WE'RE REALLY OUR KEY FINDINGS. SO FIRST FORT BEN I SEE IS A VERY COMPREHENSIVE AND ROBUST WELLNESS POLICY. WE KNOW THAT RIGHT? IT'S GREAT. 41 GOALS IS A LOT. UM SO WHEN WE'RE COMPARING TO OTHER DISTRICTS, UM WE SCORED MUCH HIGHER ON THAT WEALTH SET THAN OTHER DISTRICTS.
THE NEXT ONE WAS WELL, FORT BENATI HAS A VERY COMPREHENSIVE AND ROBUST WELLNESS POLICY.
THERE ARE OPPORTUNITIES IN SOME OF THE WELLNESS POLICY AREAS THAT WE COULD STRENGTHEN AND, UM IMPLEMENTATION AND PRACTICES OF THOSE WELLNESS GOALS COULD BE IMPROVED. UM THERE HAVE BEEN GAINS IN THE IMPLEMENTATION OF CAMPUS WELLNESS COMMITTEES. UH BUT THERE'S STILL OPPORTUNITIES FOR GROWTH. UM TO ESTABLISH THOSE COMMITTEES, UM AND THEN REALLY WORKING TO INCLUDE MULTIPLE STAKEHOLDERS IN THAT GROUP. UM THERE WERE CONFLICTING VIEWS BETWEEN CAMPUS, UM, REPORTING IMPLEMENTATION OF WELLNESS GOALS AND STAFF PERCEPTIONS. SO THAT REALLY CAME INTO F CAME INTO PLAY. WHEN WE'RE LOOKING AT THE CAMPUS WELLNESS ASSESSMENT. IT DIDN'T ALWAYS MATCH WHAT THE TEACHERS WERE SAYING. SO WE NOTICED THAT SO WE NEED TO DO SOME WORK THERE. UM MODERATE LEVELS OF IMPLEMENTATION OF CHECK INS WITH THEIR, UM, MENTAL HEALTH, LEAD AND PRINCIPLES AND ADMIN TEAMS, WHICH SIGNALED, UH, MAYBE A GAP IN MAKING SURE THAT ALL THE PEOPLE THAT ARE SUPPORTING WHOLE CHILD HEALTH ON A CAMPUS ARE REALLY TAKING TIME TO ENSURE THAT THEY'RE MEETING MONTHLY. UM, IF NOT MORE TO MAKE SURE THE NEEDS OF THE STUDENTS ARE BEING MET. AND THEN STAFF, UM REPORTED VARYING AGREEMENT IN THE AVAILABILITY OF ONGOING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT, WHICH WAS OFFERED TO SUPPORT IMPLEMENTATION OF WELLNESS GOALS . SO THEY WANTED MORE LEARNING ON THAT. AND THEN THERE WAS A REDUCTION IN THE USE OF FOOD AS PUNISHMENT. HOWEVER THERE WERE STILL SOME GAPS THAT EXISTED, UM , AND THE PROHIBITING PRACTICES WERE STILL KIND OF OCCURRING ON CAMPUSES. SO THE IDEA UM I KNOW THE STUDENTS DIDN'T REALLY LIKE THIS ONE. BUT YOU KNOW, NOT GIVING THEM FOOD. AS A REWARD SOMETIME AND THEN OBVIOUSLY NOT TAKING FOOD AWAY FOR A PUNISHMENT SO WE CAN DEFINITELY WORK IN THAT AREA. UM THERE WAS SOME INCOME INCONSISTENT IMPLEMENTATION OF CAMPUS WELLNESS PLANNING THROUGH OUR CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANNING PROCESS. SO UM, A GOOD NUMBER OF OUR CAMPUSES HAD STRATEGIES IN THEIR C IP S, BUT NOT ALL OF THEM AND WE REALLY WANT TO GET TO WHERE ALL OF THEM HAVE THAT.
AND THEN THERE HAS BEEN SOME GROWTH IN THE INCLUSION OF STAKEHOLDERS AND WELLNESS ACTIVITIES. HOWEVER, THERE WAS A NOTABLE DROP OF THE NUMBER OF WELLNESS EVENTS THAT WERE ACTUALLY OCCURRING ON CAMPUS, SO NOT AS MANY AS WE WERE HOPING TO SEE OK, SO WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE? OUR NEXT STEPS. SO, LIKE I SAID, THE PURPOSE OF THIS WHOLE PROGRAM EVALUATION WELL, IT'S REQUIRED, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO BE ABLE TO USE THIS INFORMATION TO LOOK AT OUR WELLNESS PLAN, WHICH IS F FA, LOCAL AND SAY, IS IT WHAT WE NEED? ARE THERE SOME ADJUSTMENTS? HOW CAN WE MAKE IT? UM HOW CAN WE MAKE IT? WHAT WE WANT IT TO BE SO THAT WE CAN GET ALL OF OUR GOALS MET AND THEN TWO TRYING TO FIGURE OUT IT'S NOT ALWAYS JUST CHANGING THE POLICY. IT'S ALSO FIGURING OUT IS IT AWARENESS LIKE WHAT IS THERE MORE TRAINING MORE EDUCATION THAT NEEDS TO OCCUR WITH EITHER ADMINISTRATORS, CAMPUS WELLNESS COMMITTEES AND JUST TEACHERS, SO THE NEXT STEP IS REALLY TO DIG INTO THAT DATA SO THAT WE CAN DETERMINE NEXT STEPS. SO IF THERE ARE ANY SHACK MEMBERS THAT WOULD LOVE TO JOIN US ON THIS JOURNEY, UM, YOU CAN EMAIL UM LADONNA, AND SHE WILL KIND OF GET YOU IN CONTACT WITH ME. AND WE'RE GONNA HAVE A LITTLE WELLNESS PLAN TASK FORCE SO WE CAN REALLY, UM, START LOOKING AT THE DATA. AND GET IT TO WHERE WE CAN DRIVE IT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION AND LIKE WE HAVE BEEN DOING LIKE WITH THE SHOT IS JUST WORKING TO IMPROVE WELLNESS FOR, UM STUDENTS AND STAFF ACROSS THE DISTRICT. OK. ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS? SO UM, FOR OPPORTUNITIES TO GET INVOLVED IS THAT THROUGH THE REST OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, AND IT STOPS THERE BECAUSE IT HAS TO BE DONE BY THE END OF THIS. I DON'T THINK WE HAVE LIKE A SPECIFIC TIMELINE. I THINK WE HAD TO DO THE TRIANGLE ASSESSMENT. THERE'S NO REQUIREMENT FOR POLICY UPDATE OR A TIMELINE THAT'S REQUIRED SO IT'S REALLY WE'LL PROBABLY START MEETING SOON. UM, BUT THEN WE'LL REALLY DETERMINE THAT TIMELINE AS THE GROUP MEETS. IN THE SHACK . WILL THIS WHOLE PROGRAM EVALUATION? IT'S LIKE, I DON'T KNOW TIFFANY. IT'S LIKE I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY PAGES 70 PAGES. SO ONCE IT'S ALL PRETTY AND NICE, WE WILL SEND IT TO YOU AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO GO THROUGH THE WHOLE THING. SO I KNOW IT WAS A VERY BIG OVERVIEW OF LIKE THE 41 GOALS LIKE WHICH ONE AND WHICH WASN'T IT? UM, ALISON DIDN'T WANT ME TO TAKE UP THE WHOLE MEETING TODAY. UM BUT, UM, WE'LL
[00:30:05]
DEFINITELY SEND THAT OUT. SO YOU CAN TAKE SOME TIME TO DIVE A LITTLE BIT DEEPER INTO IT. IF YOU'D LIKE TO ANY OTHER QUESTIONS. OKAY, WELL, I APPRECIATE THE TIME. THANKS, ALISON. LET'S GIVE HER A HAND. THAT WAS A LOT OF WORK. IT'S ALWAYS A LOT OF WORK. I TOLD HER SHE DESERVES A PAY RAISE. SHE CAN HAVE ALL OF MY PAY BECAUSE I'M A VOLUNTEER. OK UM SO WHERE ARE MY BULLDOGS? WHERE ARE MY DO ? I HAVE THREE BULLDOGS OR TWO. OK COME HERE. BULLDOGS IT'S YOUR TIME TO SHINE. WE HAVE OUR STUDENTS WHO ARE GOING TO BE LEADING OUR BRAIN BREAK. COME ON BULLDOGS. WE PLAYED THE BULLDOGS LAST NIGHT IN SOFTBALL. BOOM. ELKINS ONE. OK, SO THERE'S YOUR YELLOW GREEN. READ BLUE TO THE NEXT. OK? HUH? NO NO. SO BASICALLY, WE'RE GONNA BE PLAYING A CAHOOTS. SO WE'RE IN ORDER TO MAKE THIS MORE INTERACTIVE. WE'RE GONNA HAVE YOU ALL GET UP. SO BASICALLY THE GAME OF CAHOOT HAS A GOOD QUESTION, AND IT HAS FOUR ANSWER CHOICES. SO THERE IS GREEN, RED, YELLOW AND BLUE. YEAH AND SO THE STICKY NOTES ARE BASED OFF OF THE COLORS. WE DON'T HAVE, UM, GREEN. SO GREEN IS GONNA BE ORANGE TODAY, BUT BASED OFF OF WHAT YOU THINK THE ANSWER IS, YOU'RE GONNA GO TO ONE OF THE CORNERS, SO IF YOU CAN SEE THE STICKY NOTES RIGHT THERE. YEAH, AND BASICALLY, THAT'S IT. WE'LL START. YOU'RE STICKING IT IN YOUR CHAIR. THAT'S SOMETHING I. GREEN YELLOW AND THERE ARE YEAH, YEAH, CC YOU GUYS IN THE ROOM, SO IT DOESN'T HAVE TO BE AN EXACT YOU COULD JUST STAY FOR ME. I DECIDED I YEAH. OK? YEAH.YOU KNOW, I CAN WAIT. YEAH. NOW WHAT THAT'S GOING ON. LIKE THE GO ALL THE WAY DOWN. YOU GO TOO FAR TOO FAR. LIKE WAIT. RIGHT? YEAH. YEAH. YES. OK? THERE YOU GO. YEAH. WE PUT IN HIS DRAWING A P WHERE YOU GO? THERE YOU GO. THAT IS YEAH, I DO.
MM. YEAH, WE'RE JUST GONNA SHOW YOU LIKE NORMALLY YOU DO IT ON YOUR PHONE, BUT WE CHANGED IT TO WHERE YOU GET UP AND THEN MOVE. OK, SO WHAT DO I DO? IS NO WAY TO PAUSE IT BECAUSE THERE'S A TIMER OFF DATE. OK, SO LET ME SEE. WHAT AM I SAYING? IS THERE GOING TO PAUSE? YOU. I ONLY HAVE 20 SECONDS TO MOVE. SO YOU GUYS CAN START MOVING. NOW THE FIRST QUESTION IS SELECT THE FACTOR BEYOND FOOD CHOICES THAT CAN HAVE POSITIVE IMPACTS ON OUR HEALTH. YES ORANGE IS GREEN. OK, HOW DO WE OH, MY GOD. HOW DO I PASS? THERE'S NO PAUSE, IS THERE ANYTHING OK HOSTING? WAIT A MINUTE, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO RESTART THE WHOLE GAME. YEAH, LET'S GO. NO, THAT THAT'S JUST GONNA KEEP GOING. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO GO BACK INTO SETTINGS AND REDO THE WHOLE NO WAY. I ACTUALLY SAID YOU DO YOU HAVE TO, YOU KNOW, NO, THERE'S NO. THERE'S A OK, SO THE CORRECT ANSWER IS GREEN. ALL OF THE ABOVE. OK? THE SECOND QUESTION IS, WHICH IS AN EXAMPLE OF HEALTHY EATING HABITS, EATING IN FRONT OF THE TV CONTINUING TO EAT AFTER YOU ARE FULL EATING WHOLE FOODS INSTEAD OF PROCESSED OR PICKING FOODS WITH A LOT OF SATURATED FATS. YEAH. NO, NO, NO, NO. I THINK HM? IMAGINE. YEAH THE CORRECT ANSWER IS GREEN AGAIN. THIS ONE'S GOOD FOR OLIVE
[00:35:15]
OIL. NO, NO, NO, NO. OH, NO. OK, OK. THE NEXT QUESTION IS HOW MUCH PHYSICAL ACTIVITY IS RECOMMENDED PER WEEK, ACCORDING TO THE CDC. YES. YEAH, I. I KNOW IT'S A AWAY THE WHOLE PURPOSE OF THE IT JUST POINTED THAT. IT'S OK. I CAN. YEAH, YEAH. GO FOR IT. YOU. YOU HAVE. I THINK YES.MHM. OSTEOPOROSIS AFFECTS THE WHAT'S GONNA GET. OH, MY GOD! WHY YOU FIND I SEE OK? OK, I'LL SAY THE NEXT ONE. SAY THE CORRECT. THE CORRECT ANSWER IS BONES. OKAY THE NEXT QUESTION IS, OSTEOPOROSIS CAN BE REDUCED BY CONSUMING FOODS THAT HAVE MORE. BECAUSE I'M GOING TO WHY YOU WHY YOU. WE SHOULD HAVE THINK THAT WE SHOULD HAVE I TOLD YOU. YOU GOT THE NEXT ONE. THE CORRECT ANSWER IS CALCIUM AND VITAMINS. OK THE NEXT QUESTION IS, HOW DO WE DEFINE CANCER? UM IT IS A DISEASE THAT ATTACKS YOUR WHOLE BODY, A DISEASE THAT ONLY AFFECTS PEOPLE WHO ARE UNHEALTHY, A DISEASE CAUSED BY ABNORMAL MUTATIONS IN THE CELLS OR A DISEASE THAT IS PASSED ON FROM PERSON TO PERSON. HUH? THE CORRECT ANSWER IS A DISEASE CAUSED BY ABNORMAL MUTATIONS IN THE CELLS. OK HOW CAN HEALTHY EATING HABITS REDUCE OUR RISK OF CANCER? EATING ONLY PROCESSED FOODS, EATING A LOT OF RED MEATS, BALANCED NUTRITION TO GIVE A VARIETY OF VITAMINS AND NUTRIENTS ONLY EATING FIVE DIFFERENT TYPES OF FOOD SO THEY THAT YOU CAN'T GET SICK. THAT. I CAN MAKE A LOT OF THESE KIDS KNOW IT'S REALLY YOU'RE DOING OK. THE CORRECT ANSWER IS YELLOW. YEAH. OKAY THE NEXT QUESTION IS, WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF WATER, ACCORDING TO THE INSTITUTE OF MEDICINE. EVERYTHING ANSWERS, OK , REDDIT 6 L FOR A WOMAN AND 10 L FOR MEN, ONE LEADER FOR WOMEN AND ONE LEADER FOR MEN, TWO LEADERS FOR WOMEN AND THREE LEADERS FOR MEN OR DRINKING WATER EVERY DAY ISN'T NECESSARY. I RE A LOT. THE CORRECT ANSWER IS YELLOW. RIGHT? IN FACT, FUN FACTS. OK, OK. TRUE OR FALSE. YOUR BLOOD MAKES UP ABOUT 1/10 OF YOUR ENTIRE BODY WEIGHT. RIGHT? YEAH, YEAH, I. I LIKE I CHECKED EVERYTHING. HM? I'M JUST NO. THIS IS TRUE. OK? WHAT IS THE WATER CONTENT IN WATERMELON? YEAH I WOULD HAVE GUESSED. 9200 GUYS. I WANT TO ASK HIM TO SIT DOWN WHEN YOU'RE DONE. YEAH. THANK YOU. NOW. OK THE CORRECT ANSWER IS 92% AND THAT'S ABOUT IT. YOU GUYS CAN SIT DOWN NOW. HAVE A THANK YOU GUYS FOR PLAYING. THANK YOU GUYS FOR DOING SEE THAT IT'S HARD TO LIKE, GET INTO SEE WHAT THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO RIGHT? PUT THAT DOWN. AWESOME JOB. THANK YOU TO OUR AUSTIN BULLDOGS. YOU KNOW?
[00:40:09]
YEAH. OK HOPEFULLY YOU GUYS, UM, GOT SOME STIMULATION AND GET A LITTLE BIT OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY.UM SO WE CAN BE NICE AND AWAKE FOR CHIEF WRITER WHO'S GOING TO ANSWER OR DO A LITTLE BIT OF DISCUSSION AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS WE HAVE. LET ME PULL UP YOUR SLIDE. ALL RIGHT. YOU ARE YOU ARE THE SLIDE. OK, THANK YOU. GOOD AFTERNOON. WELCOME AND , UH, I WANNA SAY ESPECIALLY WELCOME TO THE STUDENTS. THANK YOU ALL FOR BEING A PART OF THIS, UM, ONE OF THE THINGS WE TALK ABOUT IN OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT IS ALWAYS BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS. SO IT'S AMAZING TO SEE THE STUDENTS OUT HERE TO SEE YOU INVOLVED. UM AND SO, UH, I, I DO APPRECIATE THAT. THANK YOU FOR TAKING THE TIME TO DO THAT. UH MY NAME IS DAVID RODER. I'M YOUR CHIEF OF POLICE FOR THE FORT BEN STATE POLICE DEPARTMENT. I'VE BEEN HERE 14 YEARS AND, UM, IT'S BEEN AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE TO BE HERE AND, UH, LOOK FORWARD TO MANY MORE YEARS. UM TODAY. I WAS GONNA TALK TO YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE SECURITY GUARDS THAT ARE IN PLACE AT OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS. TO GIVE YOU A LITTLE BIT OF CONTEXT ABOUT THAT BEFORE I GET INTO THE SECURITY GUARDS.
I WANT TO TELL YOU A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT. SO UM, WE HAVE 76 POLICE OFFICERS IN OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT. WE HAVE ONE OFFICER ASSIGNED TO EVERY MIDDLE SCHOOL AND TWO OFFICERS AT EVERY HIGH SCHOOL. OK WE ALSO HAVE ELEMENTARY PATROL. WE HAVE INVESTIGATIONS, AND WE HAVE OTHER OFFICERS THAT DO THINGS AROUND IN THE ADMINISTRATIVE ARENA AS FAR AS TRAINING HIRING, UH, RECRUITING AND THINGS LIKE THAT. UM WHAT YOU MAY NOT KNOW ABOUT OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT IS THAT WE ALSO HAVE A FULL TIME DISPATCH CENTER. UM, THAT WORKS. IT'S STAFFED 24 HOURS A DAY, SEVEN DAYS A WEEK, AND THEY'RE MONITORING ALL OF OUR BURGLAR ALARMS. OUR FIRE ALARMS. UH, THINGS LIKE THAT IN THE DISTRICT , ALSO WITHIN THE SCHOOL DISTRICT POLICE DEPARTMENT. WE HAVE EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND WE HAVE LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS. SO ALL THE STANDARD RESPONSE PROTOCOLS THAT YOU ALL GO THROUGH AT SCHOOL, THE LOCKDOWN, THE SECURE THE HOLD ALL THOSE THAT COMES FROM OUR DEPARTMENT. SO UH, MR BART ROSBERG, WHO'S SITTING OVER HERE IS OUR EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OVER EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AND LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS, SO WE MONITOR ALL OF THOSE DRILLS AND MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE CAMPUSES ARE DOING THOSE DRILLS CORRECTLY, AND THEY'RE DOING THEM IN A TIMELY MANNER. WE ALSO ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE LIFE SAFETY SYSTEMS ON THE CAMPUSES AND IN OUR SUPPORT BUILDINGS, WHICH ARE FIRE ALARMS. BURGLAR ALARMS, UH, CAMERAS, CARD ACCESS SYSTEMS, KITCHEN HOOD VENTS, FIRE EXTINGUISHERS, ALL OF THOSE THINGS. TO BE MONITORED, UM, UPDATED, INSTALLED INSPECTED, AND SO OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT COVERS ALL OF THAT AS WELL. AND WE ALSO COVER ALL THE CROSSING GUARDS. SO I HAVE ABOUT 100 AND 65 CROSSING GUARDS THAT WORK IN OUR POLICE DEPARTMENT AS WELL. SO AS YOU CAN SEE, WE'RE MUCH MORE THAN JUST A POLICE DEPARTMENT. WE DO MORE THAN JUST LAW ENFORCEMENT. AND IN FACT, MOST OF WHAT WE DO IS BUILDING RELATIONSHIPS, AND IT'S NOT MOSTLY LAW ENFORCEMENT. THERE ARE TIMES WHEN WE HAVE TO DO THAT. UM, BUT WHAT WE WANT TO DO IS BUILD THOSE RELATIONSHIPS WITH OUR STUDENTS WITH OUR STAFF WITH OUR COMMUNITY. SO UM, I TALK ABOUT BEING EDUCATORS FIRST, AND THAT'S KIND OF A FOREIGN UP TO POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND POLICE OFFICERS. AND WHAT I MEAN BY THAT IS WE'RE EDUCATORS. FIRST A. WE'RE IN AN EDUCATION BUSINESS, BUT WE ALSO HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO EDUCATE EVERY SINGLE DAY. SO WHEN I'M STANDING IN FRONT OF STUDENTS OR WHEN I GO OUT TO A SCHOOL, I HAVE AN OPPORTUNITY TO EDUCATE YOU ON WHO WE ARE, WHAT WE DO AND WHAT WE STAND FOR, AND IT DOESN'T MEAN I HAVE TO BE UP HERE AT A PODIUM. I DON'T HAVE TO BE IN A ROOM IN A CLASSROOM, GIVEN A FORMAL PRESENTATION OR SOMETHING. THIS IS THE WAY I INTERACT WITH YOU. CAN TEACH YOU A LOT ABOUT WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO AND WHAT WE STAND FOR, AND SO WE WANT YOU TO HAVE A POSITIVE EXPERIENCE WITH US WHEN YOU'RE ON CAMPUS. AND SO HOPEFULLY THAT MESSAGE FOR ME TRICKLES DOWN TO OUR OFFICERS. UM I'M VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT THAT. AND SO WE WANT YOU TO HAVE A GOOD EXPERIENCE. SO HAVING SAID ALL THAT IN THE 88TH LEGISLATIVE SESSION THAT JUST PASSED IT WAS HOUSE BILL THREE THAT, UM UH, GAVE US MANY STIPULATIONS THAT WE'RE HAVING TO FOLLOW. ONE OF THOSE IS THAT WE HAD TO HAVE AN ARMED OFFICER ON EVERY CAMPUS IN THE STATE OF TEXAS. NOW WE, UH LIKE MOST OTHER POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE HAVING A HARD TIME FINDING QUALIFIED POLICE OFFICERS, AND SO WHEN THAT MANDATE CAME OUT THAT WE HAD TO HAVE AN ARMED POLICE OFFICER ON EVERY CAMPUS, WE HAVE 51 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN FORT BEND, SD. SO THAT MEANS I WOULD HAVE TO GO FROM 76 POLICE OFFICERS AT ANOTHER 51 FOR THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS AND THEN ONE MORE FOR PROGRESSIVE HIGH SCHOOL. SO 52 AND THEN WE'D HAVE TO BUILD IN A SUPERVISORY STAFF TO SUPERVISE THOSE RIGHT. JUST LIKE IF WE BROUGHT ON 52 MORE
[00:45:02]
TEACHERS AT A CAMPUS, YOU'D HAVE TO HAVE THE SUPERVISORY STAFF TO OVERSEE THAT. SO IT WOULD BE A VERY, UH, LABORIOUS PROCESS, BUT IT'S ALSO VERY DIFFICULT TO DO BECAUSE EVERY SINGLE AGENCY IN OUR COUNTY IS SHORT POLICE OFFICERS AND SO TRYING TO FIND THE RIGHT PEOPLE HAVING EVERYTHING I JUST SAID ABOUT WHO WE ARE AND WHAT WE DO AND WHAT WE STAND FOR. I'M NOT GONNA HIRE SOMEBODY JUST BECAUSE THEY CAN FOG UP A MIRROR, RIGHT? I WANT SOMEBODY THAT HAS A HEART FOR KIDS. I WANT SOMEBODY THAT'S GONNA ENGAGE WITH YOU. I WANT SOMEBODY THAT'S GONNA BE THAT EDUCATOR, RIGHT? NOT JUST A POLICE OFFICER, AND SO WE LOOK FOR VERY SPECIFIC INDIVIDUALS WHEN WE'RE RECRUITING AND WE'RE SELECTIVE ABOUT THAT. SO WHEN THIS LAW CAME OUT THAT SAID, WE HAD TO HAVE AN OFFICER AT EVERY SINGLE SCHOOL IN TEXAS. WE ARE ALREADY AHEAD OF THE GAME BECAUSE WE ALREADY HAVE SOME MIDDLE SCHOOLS AND HIGH SCHOOLS. UM, BUT NOW WE HAD TO STAFF THE ELEMENTARIES. OK, SO IF WE CAN'T HIRE POLICE OFFICERS BECAUSE OF LACK OF PERSONNEL, WHICH WE'VE ALREADY ESTABLISHED THAT OR LACK OF FUNDING, WHICH WOULD COST US SOMEWHERE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF 6 TO $7 MILLION IF YOU'VE PAID ATTENTION TO THE DISTRICT, YOU KNOW THAT WE'VE HAD SOME, UM SOME TOUGH TIMES OF BUDGET RECENTLY, RIGHT? SO WE DON'T HAVE AN EXTRA $6 MILLION LAYING AROUND, UH, TO JUST HIRE POLICE OFFICERS. SO THE LEGISLATORS, UM, GAVE OUR SCHOOL BOARDS A WAY TO FILE A GOOD CAUSE EXCEPTION. AND OUR SCHOOL BOARD DID THAT. AND SO WHAT THAT MEANS IS INSTEAD OF HIRING POLICE OFFICERS. WE COULD GO WITH A DIFFERENT OPTION IN ORDER TO PUT AN ARMED PERSON ON EVERY CAMPUS THAT COULD BE GUARDIANS. EXCUSE ME. THAT COULD BE THE GUARDIAN PROGRAM THAT COULD BE A MARSHALL PROGRAM OR COULD BE PRIVATE SECURITY. SO THERE WERE THREE DIFFERENT OPTIONS THAT WE, UM, STARTED TO EXPLORE. THE GUARDIAN PROGRAM IS ONE WHERE YOU HAVE PLAIN CLOTHES. PEOPLE THEY'RE NOT WEARING A UNIFORM. OK UM AND THEY WOULD BE CARRYING A CONCEALED FIREARM ON CAMPUS, AND THERE'S SOME MINIMAL AMOUNT OF TRAINING THAT GOES INTO THAT.AND THEN WE HAVE A MARSHALL PROGRAM. OK WHERE THEY COULD WEAR A UNIFORM. OR THEY COULD BE PLAIN CLOTHES. THEY WOULD BE, UM , A, UM, EMPLOYEE OF THE DISTRICT. AND THEY WOULD ALSO CARRY A FIREARM. AND THEY HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE TRAINING THAN THE GUARDIAN. IT'S KIND OF A STEP UP FROM THAT THEY HAD A LITTLE BIT MORE TRAINING, BUT ONE OF THE ISSUES THAT WE, UH, FOUND WITH THE MARSHALL PROGRAM IS BECAUSE THEY ARE ALREADY A DISTRICT EMPLOYEE. THEY MIGHT HAVE A DUAL ROLE. NOW, REMEMBER, WE'RE TALKING ABOUT ELEMENTARIES ONLY SO LET'S SAY WE HAVE A AN ELEMENTARY TEACHER OR A COACH OR AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL WHO WANTS TO BE A MARSHAL. OK? AND WE'VE TALKED ABOUT THE STANDARD RESPONSE PROTOCOL WHERE WE DO LOCKDOWNS AND WE DO SECURE AND WE DO HOLD AND WE GO THROUGH ALL THOSE EMERGENCY DRILLS. WE DO A VERY GOOD JOB BECAUSE WE'VE BEEN USING THAT STANDARD RESPONSE PROTOCOL FOR PROBABLY ABOUT 11 OR 12 YEARS. NOW WE DO A VERY GOOD JOB OF GETTING OUR STUDENTS INTO CLASSROOMS VERY QUICKLY. IF THERE'S AN EMERGENCY, WE TRAIN FOR THAT WE DO THAT ALL THE TIME . SO I KNOW ALL OF YOU HAVE DONE THAT. WE DO A REALLY GOOD JOB OF GETTING PEOPLE IN QUICK. THE PROBLEM IS AT AN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. IF WE HAVE SOMEBODY WHO HAS A DUAL ROLE NOW THEY'RE A TEACHER OR A COACH, AND THEY PULLED THEIR CLASS INTO A CLASSROOM TO SECURE THEM. NOW, WHAT DO WE EXPECT THEM TO DO? IF THERE'S A THREAT OUTSIDE, DO THEY LEAVE THEIR CLASS BEHIND AND GO OUT INTO THE HALLWAY AND LEAVE THE KIDS AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL BEHIND? OR DO THEY JUST STAY WITH THEM? AND THAT DEFEATS THE PURPOSE OF THIS LAW, RIGHT? SO WE DECIDED THAT THE BEST OPTION FOR FORT BEN RSD COMMUNITY WAS TO HIRE PRIVATE SECURITY. OK THEY DON'T HAVE A DUAL ROLE. THEY ARE THERE FOR ONE SPECIFIC PURPOSE AND IS TO STOP THE THREAT OF AN ATTACK ON A CAMPUS. AND SO BUT WE ALSO ASKED THEM TO BE FRIENDLY RIGHT BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WE WANT, UM EXCUSE ME, AND SO. I'LL GIVE YOU A QUICK STORY. WE WENT OUT TO ARMSTRONG ELEMENTARY, UM, TO DO AN IMPACT AWARD FOR ONE OF THE CROSSING GUARDS OUT THERE, UH, RECENTLY. AND WHILE I WAS THERE, THERE WERE, UM UH, KINDERGARTEN FIRST GRADE AND SECOND GRADE STUDENTS THAT WERE PART OF THIS PROGRAM BECAUSE THE, UH, CROSSING GUARD DIDN'T KNOW HE WAS GETTING THE AWARD. SO WE SURPRISED HIM WITH THAT AND ALL THE KIDS WERE IN THE CAFETERIA AND THEY WERE CLAPPING AND THEY LOVED HIM AND ALL THIS, BUT WHEN WE WERE IN THE HALLWAY AND THEY WERE GOING BACK TO CLASS, THE LITTLE STUDENTS WERE PASSING BY ME AND THE SECURITY GUARD WAS STANDING THERE AND THEY WERE SAYING HI, OFFICER SEBASTIAN. HI, OFFICER SEBASTIAN. OFFICER SEBASTIAN. HI, OFFICER SEBASTIAN . I WAS LOOKING AT HIM LIKE, WOW . THEY KNOW YOUR NAME RIGHT? AND
[00:50:03]
THAT'S WHAT WE WERE LOOKING FOR. HE HAS TAKEN THE TIME TO INVEST IN THOSE STUDENTS AT THAT CAMPUS , AND THEY KNOW HIM BY NAME. THAT'S THE KIND OF THINGS THAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR. RIGHT SO HE'S INVESTED IN THAT CAMPUS. HE'S GOT OWNERSHIP IN THOSE STUDENTS AND THAT STAFF AND HE'S GONNA MAKE SURE THAT NOBODY COMES IN AND HARMS ANYBODY IN THAT CAMPUS . AND SO THAT'S THE KIND OF THING THAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR. SO THAT'S A LITTLE BIT ABOUT OUR SECURITY GUARD PROGRAM AND HOW WE GOT TO THIS POINT AND WHY WE'RE DOING WHAT WE'RE DOING WITH PRIVATE SECURITY. AND IF THINGS CHANGE IN THE FUTURE, AND WE'RE ABLE TO HIRE POLICE OFFICERS, THEN THAT'S A GOAL THAT WE WANT TO GET TO. BUT AT THIS POINT, WE'RE JUST NOT ABLE TO DO THAT. AND SO ANYWAY, SO FOR THE COMMUNITY AND FOR THE STUDENTS, THAT'S WHERE WE'RE AT. DOES ANYBODY HAVE ANY QUESTIONS FOR ME? YES, MA'AM. ABSOLUTELY THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION, SHE SAID. HOW DO YOU MONITOR THAT? DO WE HAVE THE DO WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO CHANGE THEM OUT? YES SO THE SECURITY GUARDS WORK FOR A DIFFERENT COMPANY. WE'VE CONTRACTED OUT WITH TWO DIFFERENT SECURITY GUARDS. SO ON THE WEST SIDE OF THE DISTRICT, WE HAVE ONE COMPANY ON THE EAST SIDE OF THE DISTRICT. WE HAVE ANOTHER COMPANY, AND THAT'S JUST GEOGRAPHIC. IT HELPS THEIR SUPERVISORY STAFF MONITOR THEM A LITTLE EASIER THAN DRIVING 100 AND 77 MILES ACROSS. YOU KNOW THE DISTRICT EVERY DAY, UH, TRYING TO GO CHECK ON HIM. SO, UM, WE ASK OUR PRINCIPALS LOOK, IF YOU HAVE A COMPLAINT, OR IF YOU SEE SOMETHING THAT'S NOT RIGHT WITH THE SECURITY GUARDS. LET US KNOW WE HAVE DIRECT ACCESS WITH THEIR SUPERVISORS. AND THEN IF IT'S SOMETHING SERIOUS, LIKE YOU MIGHT HAVE SEEN IN THE NEWS, UM, IF IT'S SOMETHING SERIOUS, WE REMOVE THEM. RIGHT AWAY. UM THERE'S NO ENDS, IFS OR BUTS ABOUT IT. WE DO NOT. UM, AND THEY AND THEY KNOW THAT THAT THAT CAN HAPPEN, RIGHT? SO THEIR CONTRACTED WITH US TO PROVIDE SOMEBODY EVERY DAY . UM AND BUT WE HAVE THE ABSOLUTE RIGHT TO SAY THIS ONE'S NOT WORKING OUT. WE NEED TO BRING IN SOMEBODY NEW. VERY GOOD QUESTION. YES, MA'AM. CONTRACT I'M SORRY WITH THE CONTRACTED SECURITY OFFICERS. IS THERE AN OPTION WHERE AS POLICE OFFICERS ARE AVAILABLE TO INSERT THEM AT SCHOOLS, OR DOES IT HAVE TO HAPPEN? LIKE EN MASSE, LIKE WERE YOU HIRE LIKE A WHOLE SUITE OF OFFICERS AT ONCE? YEAH THAT'S GREAT, I. I WISH WE COULD DO THAT, UH, FOR ONE, BUT HERE, SO HERE'S THE THING WITH THE SECURITY GUARDS, UM THEY ARE FUNDED THROUGH THE VA TRE THAT OUR COMMUNITY JUST PASSED RIGHT.SO THERE'S A VERY SPECIFIC AMOUNT OF MONEY THAT'S ALLOCATED FOR THE SECURITY GUARDS. OK UM IF WE WERE TO HIRE POLICE OFFICERS, IT'S GONNA GO OVER THAT ALLOTTED AMOUNT, SO IF WE ARE GOING TO SWITCH FROM SECURITY GUARDS TO POLICE OFFICERS, THEN WE WOULD HAVE TO HAVE A BUDGET AMENDMENT WHICH WOULD HAVE TO BE APPROVED BY THE BOARD. AND THERE'S A PROCESS FOR THAT. BUT GOOD QUESTION. MAYBE ONE MORE QUESTION. YES, MA'AM. SO CURRENTLY ARE THERE 50 OFFICERS IN ALL THE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS RIGHT NOW? YES, MA'AM. SO UM, IN DECEMBER AT THE DECEMBER BOARD MEETING, UM, I WAS ASKED, CHIEF. WHEN ARE YOU GONNA HAVE THE SECURITY GUARDS ON CAMPUS AND I SAID, WE'LL HAVE THEM THERE. JANUARY 4TH AND SO OVER THE TWO WEEK BREAK. UM WELL , EVERYBODY WAS OFF. WE WERE WORKING VERY, VERY HARD TO WORK WITH THESE VENDORS AND GET PEOPLE TRAINED AND GET THEM ON CAMPUS, AND ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES WERE COVERED JANUARY 4TH, AND THEY'VE BEEN COVERED. AND SO WE MAKE SURE THAT THAT EACH ONE OF THOSE CAMPUSES IS COVERED.
THAT'S IT'S. UM IT'S A COMPLIANCE ISSUE. RIGHT UM SO WE WANNA MAKE SURE THAT THAT WE'RE IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAW. NO, THANK YOU. OK WELL, THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HARD WORK THAT YOU DO FOR WE APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT. AND AT THIS TIME I'D LIKE TO INVITE MISS SARINE BACK UP TO DISCUSS OUR FENTANYL POISONING AWARENESS INITIATIVE. HELLO AGAIN IN MY CORE IS HERE. HEY, LAUREN. ALL RIGHT, UM, IN ADDITION TO THE SECURITY GUARD REQUIREMENTS, UM THE 88TH LEGISLATION SESSION HAD A LOT. UM LOT TO DO WITH FENTANYL. SO THERE ARE THREE BILLS. UM WE HAVE, UM, JUST KIND OF BROUGHT THESE TO YOU. SO YOU'LL KNOW ABOUT ALL THREE OF THEM AND THEN WE'RE REALLY GONNA DIVE INTO HOUSE BILL 39 08. OK SO THE FIRST ONE IS SENATE BILL 629, WHICH REQUIRES US TO HAVE AN OPIOID ANTAGONIST, UM, ON EVERY CAMPUS AND WE HAVE BEEN AHEAD OF THIS. UM AND THE LEGISLATION SO KIND OF RIGHT BEFORE COVID HIT. WE WERE ALREADY IN THE WORKS OF GETTING AN OPIOID ANTAGONIST, WHICH WE CALL CANS. THAT MIGHT BE A TERM THAT YOU'VE HEARD MORE, UM LIKE SAID IN THE PUBLIC AND ALL THAT STUFF, SO WE DO CURRENTLY HAVE
[00:55:04]
NARCAN ON EVERY, UM, CAMPUS. SO ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE HIGH SCHOOL ALL HAVE NARCAN. UM WHAT IT IS IT'S A IT'S A HOPE. THAT IF THERE WAS AN OVERDOSE, IT'S SOMETHING THAT THE NURSES CAN USE TO HELP YOU. HOPEFULLY BE ABLE TO MAKE MAKE IT THROUGH THAT OVERDOSE. AND ONE THING WE WANNA MAKE SURE PEOPLE KNOW THAT IT'S NOT A CURE. FOR AN OVERDOSE . UM ARE UM THE NARCAN THAT WE HAVE ON CAMPUSES IS A TWO PACK. SO THE FIRST, UM DOSE IS GIVEN AND IF THE PERSON DOESN'T BECOME CONSCIOUS AND IS NOT BACK TO THE GOOD STATE, THEY USE THE SECOND ONE, AND SO REALLY WHAT IT IS.IT'S KIND OF LIKE AN A ED RIGHT LIKE THE PURPOSE IS TO PROVIDE SOME HELP. SO BETTER HELP CAN GET THERE. OK SO WE DO HAVE NARCAN ON EVERY CAMPUS. UM OUR NURSES AND OUR, UM OUR RESOURCE OFFICERS. THEY'RE ALL TRAINED IN HOW TO USE NARCAN. OUR OFFICERS. CURRENTLY CARRY IT. BECAUSE IT HAS TO BE STORED AT A REALLY GOOD TEMPERATURE, AND IF THEY LEAVE IT IN THEIR CARS AND STUFF, IT GOES BAD. UM WE PRESENTED THIS INFORMATION TO PRINCIPAL, UM, MAYBE A MONTH AGO , AND THEY REALLY WANTED TO BE TRAINED IN HOW TO USE NARCAN, TOO. SO WE ARE PLANNING TO TRAIN ALL OF OUR SECONDARY ADMINISTRATORS ON HOW TO USE NARCAN BECAUSE THERE ARE LOTS OF TIMES WHEN THERE'S AN EVENT ON CAMPUS AND THE NURSE IS NOT AROUND AND MAYBE AN OFFICER IS NOT AROUND. AND IF AN EMERGENCY LIKE THAT AROSE NOW OUR PRINCIPLES WILL BE ABLE TO ALSO BE ABLE TO USE THE NARCAN, THOUGH, KNOW WHERE IT'S LOCATED ALL OF THAT, SO THEY'RE GETTING DRAINED. UM, IN MARCH. HOUSE BILL 3144 REQUIRED OCTOBER TO BE FENTANYL POISONING AWARENESS MONTH, UM, TO INCREASE AWARENESS OF THE DANGERS OF FENTANYL AND POTENTIAL OVERDOSES. SO WE STARTED THAT THIS YEAR. SO OCTOBER AND WE WORKED WITH COMMUNICATIONS. IT WAS ALL OVER THE WEB PAGE CAMPUSES, UM, RECEIVED ACTIVITIES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS TO DO ON YOUR CAMPUS, SO HOPEFULLY THAT YOUR CAMPUS DID DO ALL THOSE THINGS. UM AND WE CAN BE CONTINUING TO DO THAT. UM, EVERY YEAR WE'VE ADDED IT TO OUR WHOLE CHILD HEALTH INITIATIVE, SO IT IS AN EVENT THAT WILL SEND THIS IS RESOURCES FOR EVERY, UM, OCTOBER AND SO HOUSE BILL 39 08 IS WHAT? WE'RE GONNA TALK ABOUT A LITTLE BIT TODAY. SO IT REQUIRES EACH SCHOOL DISTRICT, UM, TO ANNUALLY PROVIDE STUDENTS IN GRADES SIX THROUGH 12 RESEARCH BASED INSTRUCTION ON FENTANYL ABUSE PREVENTION AND DRUG POISONING. AWARENESS UM, IT REQUIRES INSTRUCTION TO INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING HAS TO INCLUDE SUICIDE PREVENTION, PREVENTION OF THE ABUSE OF AN ADDICTION OF FENTANYL. AND THEN WHERE IS AWARENESS OF SO OF LOCAL SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY RESOURCES THAN ANY PROCESSES INVOLVED? ASSESSING THOSE RESOURCES. AND THEN OF COURSE, IT HAS TO BE INCLUDED IN THE HEALTH. UM, CURRICULUM, WHICH WE'VE DONE THAT TOO. SO WHAT WE'VE DONE IS WORK WITH THE WONDERFUL FORT BEND REGIONAL COUNCIL TO CREATE A LESSON AND, UM SOMETIMES PEOPLE MIGHT GET CONFUSED WHEN IT SAYS ALL STUDENTS IN GRADES SIX THROUGH 12 ANNUALLY. THAT MEANS EVERY YEAR, SO IF YOU'RE IN IN ONE OF THOSE GRADES, YOU'LL GET THE LESSON THIS YEAR AGAIN NEXT YEAR, YOU'LL GET IT SO IT'S NOT JUST ONCE BETWEEN GRADES SIX THROUGH 12. IT'S EVERY YEAR. OK JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT THAT'S COMPLETELY CLEAR. SO HAVE ANY OF THE STUDENTS HAVE ANY OF Y'ALL PARTICIPATE IN THE LESSON YET? SOME OF YOU ARE? YEAH OK, AWESOME. SO FOR REGIONAL COUNCIL , UM THEY ARE EXPERTS ON THIS TOPIC. UM, SO WE ALWAYS GO TO OUR EXPERTS AND ONES THAT WE WORKED WITH FOR A LONG TIME. WHENEVER WE NEED HELP WITH THESE THINGS, SO THEY'VE CREATED 36 MINUTE VIDEO LESSON. IT'S REALLY, UM, HOPEFULLY YOU ENJOYED IT AND YOU LEARNED A LOT AND HOPEFULLY YOU'LL NEVER DO DRUGS. UM BUT EACH CAMPUS ALSO IS, UM, MAKING SURE THAT THEY LET US KNOW AFTER THEY DO THE LESSON SO WE CAN REALLY TRACK THAT EVERY STUDENT IN 6 TO 12 HAS GOT IT AT EVERY CAMPUS, SO I'M GONNA GIVE SOME TIME TO COME UP. KIND OF TALK ABOUT THE LESSON. UM AND KIND OF GIVE YOU SOME MORE INFORMATION ON THAT. SO I THINK I HAVE HER RIGHT.
HELLO, EVERYONE. SO I AM LAUREN. E. BE WAY I AM WITH FORT BEND REGIONAL COUNCIL. WE ARE A SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION AND TREATMENT FACILITY LOCATED IN THE STAFFORD AREA, AND WE ALSO HAVE A LOCATION IN ROSENBERG. AND SO WE'VE BEEN SERVING THE FORT BEND COUNTY COMMUNITY IN HOUSTON. UM AREA FOR ABOUT 40 YEARS NOW. AND SO SPECIFICALLY WHAT I DO WE HAVE A COMMUNITY COALITION CALLED FORT BEND COMMUNITY PREVENTION COALITION. SO I'M A COALITION COORDINATOR FOR THAT. AND WE HAVE OTHER UM, COLLEAGUES THAT WE WORK WITH, UH , COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO DO PROJECTS SUCH AS BE A RESOURCE FOR BENNYS D FOR OUR FENTANYL LESSON, AND WE CREATED THE FENTANYL LESSON. IT'S ACTUALLY ADAPTED FROM SOMETHING THAT OUR PREVENTION PROGRAM, UM HAD ALREADY BEEN DOING BUT IT IS 36 MINUTES LIKE, SHE SAID, AND IT HAS SOME, UH, REALLY GOOD.
STORIES IN THEIR INFORMATION ABOUT, UH, SPECIFICALLY FROM THE DEA FROM THE HOUSTON FORENSIC SCIENCE CENTER ABOUT HOW FENTANYL WORKS. HOW POISONING WORKS SOME SPECIFIC SCENARIOS
[01:00:04]
WHERE UNFORTUNATELY, YOUNG PEOPLE HAVE LOST THEIR LIVES, AND THERE'S ACTUALLY PARENTS THAT COME IN AND TALK ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. AND NOT JUST THAT. SOMETIMES YOU KNOW, A STUDENT MIGHT HAVE AN ADDICTION, BUT IT'S ALSO A LOT OF TIMES IT'S ACCIDENTAL, ACCIDENTAL POISONING WHERE THEY DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THEY WERE TAKING, AND, UM, FENTANYL CAN BE IN AN ASSORTMENT OF DRUGS. IT CAN BE IN MALI. IT COULD BE MARIJUANA. IT CAN BE IN FAKE PRESS PILLS. FAKE XANAX, FAKE ADDERALL. THEY PUT IN A LITTLE BIT OF FENTANYL AND ALL THESE DIFFERENT SUBSTANCES, AND THEN THEY SELL THEM. UM UH TO YOUNG PEOPLE, AND THEY CAN SELL THEM ON SOCIAL MEDIA AND THEY, YOU KNOW, THEY CAN GET IT FROM ANYWHERE AND A LOT OF TIMES. YOUNG PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHERE THEY'RE COME. THAT'S COMING FROM, SO THAT'S KIND OF SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE INCLUDED, UM, IN THE LESSON. IT'S VERY QUICK. VERY EASY. UM INFORMATION, SO WE HOPE YOUNG PEOPLE ENJOYED IT. WE DID DO THE PRESENTATION LIVE AT AUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL LAST YEAR, AND IT SEEMED LIKE IT WAS RECEIVED WELL, AND IT IS 36 MINUTES. SO THE INSTRUCTORS THEY HAVE A FEW EXTRA MINUTES IF THEY WANNA ADD, LIKE AN ACTIVITY OR SOMETHING FUN TO DO AFTERWARDS, JUST TO KIND OF ENGAGE WITH STUDENTS AND ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS THAT THEY MIGHT HAVE. THEN THEY CAN DO THAT. AND WE DO SEVERAL, UM, WE DON'T ONLY DO THE FENTANYL LESSON FOR, UM FOR BEN ISD. WE ALSO, UM WE DO OUR HIDDEN IN PLAIN SIGHT. MART BEDROOM. IT'S ABOUT 50 OR 60, DIFFERENT WAYS TO HIDE DRUGS OR ALCOHOL IN A IN A CHILD'S BEDROOM OR SIGNS THAT THEY MIGHT BE DOING IT. THERE'S ALL THESE VAPING PRODUCTS THAT ARE MADE TO LOOK LIKE EVERYDAY ITEMS. AND SO IT'S A REAL EYE OPENER FOR PARENTS TO KIND OF, UH, UH, WAKE THEM UP TO ENGAGE WITH YOUNG PEOPLE ABOUT TALKING ABOUT SUBSTANCE USE BEFORE THEY START SEEING THAT PROBLEM OR JUST, YOU KNOW, IDEAS OF HOW TO ENGAGE WITH THEM. ONCE THEY SEE THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE, UM AT ALL. WE ALSO HAVE OUR BIG TOBACCO BACKPACK, WHICH IS A TO A BACKPACK FULL OF LIKE VAPING PRODUCTS AND NICOTINE PRODUCTS THAT ARE MADE TO AGAIN LOOK LIKE EVERYDAY ITEMS AND PENS AND HOW WE JUST BOUGHT A PEN. THAT'S A VAPE AND, UH AND WE'VE GOT WATCHES. WE'VE GOT HOODIES ALL THESE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ITEMS THAT ARE SPECIFICALLY MADE, UH, FOR YOUNG PEOPLE TO CONCEAL A SUBSTANCE USE. AND SO WE WANNA MAKE SURE THAT, UM, UM PARENTS AND ADULTS ARE AWARE OF THESE PRODUCTS AND USE THAT AS A JUMPING OFF POINT TO TALK TO THEIR YOUNG PEOPLE ABOUT SUBSTANCE USE, AND, UM WE ACTUALLY ALSO HAVE A YOUTH COALITION. SO IF ANY YOUNG PEOPLE ARE INTERESTED IN, UM, JOINING US, THEN I'LL PUT MY CARDS OVER THERE, BUT WE NEED EVERY OTHER THURSDAY AND WE TALK ABOUT DIFFERENT PROJECTS THAT WE CAN DO AND IT'S YOUTH LED. SO IF YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC PROJECT THAT YOU WANNA DO WE? WE'LL DEFINITELY HELP YOU ALL DO THAT. BUT RIGHT NOW WE ARE WORKING ON PODCASTS AND SPOTIFY ADS THAT WE CAN, UH MARKET IN LIKE THE FORT BEND COUNTY AREA, JUST PREVENTION MESSAGING AND THEN WE ALSO HAVE LIKE A FAMILY GAME NIGHT THAT WE'RE GONNA DO, SO WE'RE GONNA DO LIKE A SCAVENGER HUNT PINATA, GIANT JENGA TWISTER , ALL KINDS OF GAMES AND THINGS JUST LIKE A COMMUNITY EVENT FOR PEOPLE TO COME TOGETHER, AND A LOT OF A LOT OF IT WILL HAVE, LIKE AAA DRUG PREVENTION TWIST, UH, IN THERE, BUT IT IS LIKE FUN AND ENGAGING AND THEY'LL GET PRIZES AND T SHIRTS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. BUT THESE ARE LIKE FUN ACTIVITIES THAT THEY FEEL LIKE IS A GOOD WAY TO ENGAGE PEERS. ABOUT DRUG PREVENTION, BUT THAT'S JUST SOME OF THE THINGS THAT WE DO. AND IF ANYBODY HAS ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE FENTANYL LESSON OR ANYTHING ABOUT WHAT WE DO IN GENERAL ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THAT. OH, YEAH. I HAVE A QUESTION. WOULD THAT BE A GOOD WOULD YOU BE A GOOD PERSON TO COME TO A WELLNESS EVENT IF THE SHACK WAS PUTTING ONE ON YES. GOT IT. KIDS. YES, WE WOULD ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? NATALIE. 16. IS THE FENTANYL LESSON GEARED TOWARDS SECONDARY STUDENTS? YES IT IS. YES IT IS. IT'S PARTICULARLY MIDDLE TO TEENAGE, UM STUDENTS. MHM. MM. MHM. OK? YEAH. YEAH, THAT VIDEO RIGHT AT THE END THAT TALKS ABOUT, UM, UH, ADDICTION AND HOW IT WORKS WITH OKAY. MAYBE YEAH, I IT WAS CREATED FOR. I THINK PARENTS AND STUDENT AUDIENCE SO MAYBE IT DOES COME OFF A LITTLE BIT MORE GEARED TOWARDS PARENTS.WE WERE HOPING THAT THERE WOULD BE SOME LIKE LITTLE NUGGETS OF INFORMATION FOR YOUNG PEOPLE, TOO. BUT I SEE WHAT YOU MEAN. YEAH. THANK YOU. GO TO OK. HOW HOW BIG IS OUR PROBLEM HERE IN FORT BEND, NSDR IN IN, UH, FORT BEND COUNTY. UM IT DEPENDS ON THE SUBSTANCE. UM IN TERMS OF FENTANYL, WE DON'T HAVE THE, UM WE DON'T HAVE A SPECIFIC NUMBER FOR FENTANYL. BUT IN TERMS OF
[01:05:05]
JUST PRESCRIPTION DRUG ABUSE, LIKE OPIOIDS AND THINGS LIKE THAT IT IS PRETTY LOW. BUT THE ISSUE WITH FENTANYL IS, IS THAT IT A LOT OF TIMES THEY PUT IT IN OTHER SUBSTANCES AND LIKE THE DATA THAT WE'RE COLLECTING, SELF REPORTED, SO YOUNG PEOPLE DON'T KNOW THAT THEY'RE INGESTING FENTANYL. SO THAT'S NOT SOMETHING THAT WE COULD REALLY CAPTURE. UNFORTUNATELY UNTIL THEY OVERDOSE, AND THEN WE'D HAVE TO GET THAT DATA. THE ER. UM SO IN TERMS OF FENTANYL, WE DON'T WE DON'T KNOW, BUT WE ARE HEARING UM YOUNG PEOPLE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL, BUT IT'S LIKE ANECDOTAL DATA. THAT'S NOT SPECIFIC DATA BUT IN TERMS OF JUST SUBSTANCE USE IN GENERAL WERE LOWER THAN THE NATIONAL AVERAGE. SO WE'RE PRETTY GOOD IN TERMS OF JUST NATIONWIDE.HOWEVER IT IS HIGHER THAN WE'D LIKE IT TO BE SO THE MOST COMMONLY USED SUBSTANCE WOULD BE TECHNICALLY ALCOHOL, BUT WE HEAR A LOT OF REPORTS FROM SCHOOL ABOUT VAPING LOTS AND THE VAPING , THC AND NICOTINE, SO THAT'S A HUGE PROBLEM. UH IN FOR BANKING RIGHT NOW FOR BEAN COUNTING RIGHT NOW, I WOULDN'T EVEN JUST SAY FOR BEN ID JUST FOR BEAN COUNTY. WHY DO YOU NOT DO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ALSO SAY THAT FOR ME AGAIN. I'M SORRY. WHY DO YOU NOT LIKE SHARE THE PRESENTATION TO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS ALSO. WELL THEY ASKED US SPECIFICALLY CREATED FOR A 6 TO 12TH GRADE, BUT, UM, WE DO HAVE, UM, PROGRAMMING FOR, UM, ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS.
WE UH FOR BEND REGIONAL COUNCIL ALSO HAS A YOUTH PREVENTION PROGRAM. AND SO SOME. SOME SCHOOLS, UM, ACTUALLY HAVE LIKE A CURRICULUM FOR AS YOUNG AS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL AGE. ARE THERE ? UM IS THERE ANY ROOM FOR FURTHER EDITING OF THE, UM THE PRESENTATION AT THIS POINT OR NO IF WE IF Y'ALL WANT US TO ADD IT THAT WE CAN AS LONG AS IT GETS APPROVED BY LAURIE. YEAH OK. UH, SO THE ONLY IDEA I HAD WAS, UM IT SEEMED FAIRLY LONG. BUT ALSO I THOUGHT THAT THERE WERE MAYBE, UM YOU ADD IN MORE LIST OF RESOURCES. I THOUGHT THE LIST OF RESOURCES WAS A BIT, UM, WEAK AS WELL. SO MAYBE THOSE ARE SOME SUGGESTIONS. THANK YOU FOR THOSE SUGGESTIONS. WE DO HAVE A LIST OF RESOURCES AVAILABLE ON THE WHOLE CHILD WELLNESS. INITIATIVE WEBSITE ON THE FOR BISD WEBSITE.
SO THERE ARE RESOURCES AVAILABLE , WHICH IS WHERE YOU CAN ALSO FIND THAT VIDEO AS WELL. BUT IT ISN'T IN A SPECIFIC PRESENTATION JUST BECAUSE WE DIDN'T WANT IT TO BE TOO LONG. BUT IF THAT'S SOMETHING THAT YOU'D LIKE US TO ADD, WE CAN WE CAN TALK ABOUT THAT. YEAH, AND I THINK THERE'S A, UH THIS IS GRAIL JAMES. I THINK THERE'S A QR CODE AT THE END AS WELL. WHICH IS GREAT FOR, UM THE YOUTH, BUT MAYBE MORE DIFFICULT FOR THE PARENTS SOMETIMES TO FOLLOW THAT. SO MAYBE THAT'S WHERE THAT THAT WAS COMING FROM. I HAD TWO OTHER, UM THINGS THAT I'VE I MIGHT BE GOOD ADDITIONS. UM, ONE WAS UM AT THE BEGINNING, ESPECIALLY. I FELT THERE NEEDED TO BE A HOOK OF SOME TYPE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT TYPE OF INTRODUCTION WAS BEING GIVEN BEFORE THE VIDEO WOULD BE SHOWN. BUT I WAS I WILL. I. I THINK A HOOK WOULD BE GOOD TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE ATTENTION OF THE AUDIENCE WHERE AND MAYBE THOSE ARE TWO DIFFERENT HOOKS FOR A YOUTH AUDIENCE VERSUS A PARENT AUDIENCE. UM I LIKED THE ANIMATION AND THE ANIMATED VIDEOS I THOUGHT WERE VERY APPROPRIATE FOR THE FOR YOU, UM AND OF COURSE, THE PARENTS STORY WAS, UH, VERY IMPORTANT FOR PARENTS BUT ALSO COULD BE IMPACTFUL FOR YOUTH AS WELL. SO UM AND THEN, UH, JUST AS DOUG ASKED. I THINK SOME SOME DATA AND STATS IN THE VIDEO INCLUDED IN THE VIDEO, PARTICULARLY FORT BEND COUNTY DATA. I THINK THERE WAS ONE STAT FOR THE STATE OF TEXAS. UM, BUT EVEN SOME HOUSTON REGIONAL OR SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE PERTINENT TO OUR YOUTH HERE AND TO PARENTS, JUST SO THEY JUST SO THEY REALIZE THAT WAS THE THREAD THAT I HEARD FROM THE PARENT TESTIMONIES WAS THEY HAD NO IDEA. THEY DIDN'T KNOW THIS WAS A PROBLEM. THEY WEREN'T EXPECTING IT. THEY DIDN'T KNOW.
WHEREAS IF THERE WAS SOME STATS FROM FORT BEND COUNTY, IT MIGHT BE. IT MIGHT BE, UM, KEEP THE ATTENTION OF THE PARENTS WHO MIGHT SEE THIS VIDEO. I LOVE THAT. YOU SUGGESTED THAT WE DID SHY AWAY FROM STAT JUST BECAUSE SOMETIMES FOR YOUNG PEOPLE THEY DON'T ALWAYS LOVE THAT DOESN'T ALWAYS RESONATE WITH THEM. A LOT OF TIMES THE PERSONAL STORIES, THE ANIMATION INFORMATION THINGS THAT THEY CAN RELATE TO. IT HITS A LITTLE DEEPER THAN STATISTICS. BUT WHEN WE DO DO PRESENTATIONS FOR, UM OUR PARENT POPULATION, YEAH, WE DO A LOT OF TIMES LIKE TO INCLUDE THE STATS FROM THE HOUSTON FORENSIC SCIENCE CENTER AND THEN ALSO THE UM HAIDA, THE HIGH INTENSITY DRUG TRAFFICKING
[01:10:01]
AREA. UM FENTANYL IS ACTUALLY THE LIKE, I THINK THE NUMBER TWO DRUG THREAT IN OUR AREA. SO WE, UM LIKE TO INCLUDE THOSE STATS AND THEN ALSO HOW MUCH FENTANYL IS FOUND IN THE OVERDOSE RATES.UM SO WE DO HAVE SOME STATS ON THAT. AND SO WHEN WE ARE PRESENTING TO PARENTS, THEN IT'S A IDEA TO KEEP THAT IN MIND TO MAKE SURE THAT WE USE THAT. MM. KNOW. I THINK THOSE ARE JUST SUGGESTED. OK, THANK YOU. OK, GREAT. WELL, THANK YOU GUYS FOR YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT THE VIDEOS.
UM I DO THINK WE NEED TO GO IN AND MOVE ON. BUT PLEASE HELP ME. UM, THANK MISS LAUREN FOR COMING TO PRESENT. AND I'LL LEAVE MY CARD ON THAT TABLE OVER THERE, JUST IN CASE ANYBODY'S INTERESTED IN THE YOUTH COALITION OR THE COALITION IN GENERAL. AND THE REASON THAT WE
[III. Administration]
NEEDED TO GO IN AND HAVE THAT LITTLE BIT OF A SUMMARY IS BECAUSE WE ARE NOW GOING TO, UM, PUT UP SOME THINGS FOR VOTES. AND WE DID HAVE QUORUM. CORRECT, OK? OK? I DO THIS? ALL RIGHT? SO UM, ALISON ASKED ME TO GO AHEAD AND TAKE THE VOTE. UM THIS VOTE WOULD BE TO ADD THIS FENTANYL POISONING AWARENESS TO OUR HEALTH EDUCATION CURRICULUM. UM SO I HOPE EVERYBODY HAD A CHANCE TO WATCH IT. I THOUGHT THIS THE PARENTS STORY WAS REALLY IMPACTFUL WITH THE ACTUAL LIVE FOOTAGE OF THE MOM FINDING OUT ANYWAY, UM, SO I WOULD LIKE TO TAKE A MOTION TO WRITE. I WOULD DO THAT. RIGHT I. I NEED A MOTION TO, UM, ADD THIS TO OUR HEALTH EDUCATION. UM SO ALISON'S GONNA MOVE. VOTE ON THE FENTANYL VOICING AWARENESS. EDUCATION IS THE CURRENT EDUCATION CURRICULUM. YES. AND CAN I GET A SECOND? OK, HAVE A SECOND. UM I WOULD SAY ALL IN FAVOR, SAY I ALL ANYBODY OPPOSED? NAY. ALL RIGHT. WE'RE GOOD TO GO, THEN. OK? SO WE WILL BE ADDING THE OH, DID I HAVE ONE QUICK QUESTION. IT'S JUST ADDING IT TO THE HEALTH. EDUCATION CURRICULUM, RIGHT? THAT'S JUST ADDING IT TO THE HEALTH. THAT'S NOT THE UM, SATISFACTION OF THE. OK, SO IT'S JUST ADDING IT TO THE HEALTH CURRICULUM, NOT THE SHOWING IT TO GRADE SIX THROUGH 12 EVERY YEAR. OH, OK. THEY'RE TWO SEPARATE THINGS. IT'S THE SAME, SO IT'S OK AS THE FENTANYL AREAS NOT JUST IN THE CURRICULUM, BUT FOR SHOWING TO GRADE 6 TO 12 EVERY YEAR, OK? JUST MAKING SURE . OK ANY OTHER CLARIFICATIONS? OK, MOTION STANDS. ALL RIGHT. AND THEN WE'RE GOOD. WE'RE GONNA GO AHEAD AND MOVE ON TO OUR NEXT POINT. UM WE NEED TO GET THE 2024 WAIT. 2025 2026 SHAQ EXECUTIVE. OH, OK? OK ALL RIGHT. UH, NEXT, WE'RE GONNA VOTE ON THE SHACK MEETING MINUTES. UM, FROM DECEMBER. 6TH UM, CAN I GET A MOTION TO APPROVE THE MINUTES AS THEY WERE RECEIVED FOR OUR DECEMBER 6TH MEETING? HM? OK, SO WE GOT IT, DOUG. SECONDED. UM ALL IN FAVOR, SAY AYE. UH, ANYBODY OPPOSED THEIR NAME? EXCELLENT SO WE HAVE APPROVED THE MEETING MINUTES FROM DECEMBER. 6TH NO EDITS OK? AND YOU WANT ME. TO MOVE ON. SO NOW, UM, FOR THE 2025 2026 SHAQ EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS. UM WE WOULD LOVE TO FIND OUT IF THERE'S ANY OTHER FOLKS. WHO MIGHT WANNA PUT THEIR NAME IN THE IN THE HAT. UH, WE'RE NOT APPROVING A SLATE RIGHT NOW.THESE ARE JUST NOMINATIONS. SO IF YOU HAVE OH, DO YOU HAVE A QUESTION? IS THERE? A WHAT? AGE LIMIT FOR WHO'S ALLOWED TO BE ON THE SHAQ EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. IT HAS TO BE A PARENT OR DISTRICT.
NO, A DISTRICT EMPLOYEE. NO. NOT A YEAH. A PARENT WITH A STUDENT IN THE DISTRICT. YEAH. YOU HAVE A HIGH ASPIRATIONS I SEE AND THAT'S GOOD. UM AND THIS IS JUST THE EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE. SO THIS IS THE SHARE. UM, CUCKOO VICE CHAIR, SECRETARY. UM. AND DO DID WE WANT TO ASK RIGHT NOW? IF ANYBODY WANTS TO BE INTERESTED IN IN SOME OF THE OTHER POSITIONS, NO. ANY NOMINATIONS ANY NOMINATIONS? OK? OK? WELL. IF YOU HAVE ANY IDEAS, AND YOU DON'T WANNA SPEAK UP RIGHT NOW,
[01:15:07]
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CONTACT ANY OF US AND WE WOULD BE HAPPY TO CONSIDER YOU AND FIND A GOOD SPOT FOR YOU ON OUR SLATE THAT WE WILL BE VOTING ON AT THE NEXT MEETING. RIGHT? OK? YEAH. OH, YEAH. SO THIS WOULD BE THE ONLY PART THAT WE ACTUALLY HAVE TO LEGALLY VOTE ON RIGHT? AND THEN THAT CAN BE SOMETHING THAT'S AN ASIDE. OK? ALL RIGHT. I THINK THAT'S IT. SO I HAVE.THANK YOU. OK, SO WE'LL TRY AND GO THROUGH THIS NEXT PART FAIRLY QUICKLY. IN APRIL, THE SHACK USUALLY PRESENTS TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES AS TO WHAT SUCCESSES WE'VE HAD IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR, AND THEN WHAT OUR GOALS MOVING FORWARD ARE SO WE JUST WANT TO SHARE THESE. THESE ARE OUR PROPOSED GOALS FOR NEXT YEAR. WE WANT TO INCREASE AWARENESS AND ACTION ABILITY OF STUDENT WELLNESS COMMITTEES AND THEIR RECOGNITION OF THEIR SPONSORS. SO UM, HOPEFULLY YOUR SPONSOR AT YOUR CAMPUS IS DOING A PHENOMENAL JOB. UM, SO WE WANT TO REALLY HAVE LOTS OF ACTION AROUND THIS. UM, THE SECOND WE WANT WE AS THE SHACK WANT TO RECOMMEND AND IMPLEMENT CELL PHONE FREE CAMPUSES. UM THE THIRD. WE WANT TO EVALUATE THE FEASIBILITY OF CHANGING SCHOOL START TIMES. NUMBER FOUR. WE WANT TO EXPAND DISTRICT LEVEL TIMELY MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORTS AVAILABLE TO ALL STUDENTS, AND WE ALSO WANT TO EVALUATE AND IMPROVE THE EFFECTIVE ACCESS OF THE M TT S MULTI TIERED SYSTEM OF SUPPORT. NUMBER FIVE. WE WANT TO DEVELOP A PROCESS FOR THE DISTRICT. WE LOST OUR POLICE OFFICERS, UM, TO PROVIDE THE DISTRICT FOR FAMILIES WITH GUN SAFETY AND STORAGE INFORMATION. UH, NUMBER SIX. RECOMMEND EXPANSION OF ACTION BASED LEARNING LABS AND INCLUDING MOVEMENT IN CLASSROOMS AT ALL LEVELS AND FINALLY ENSURE CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS TO INCLUDE WELLNESS STRATEGIES, UM, CREATED BY THEIR CAMPUS WELLNESS COMMITTEES. SO THESE ARE GOING TO BE THE ACTIONS WE BRING TO THE BOARD. UM I ALSO WANTED TO REVIEW THIS IS SOMETHING WE VOTED ON LAST YEAR. THIS IS OUR SHAQ LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES THAT ARE ALREADY APPROVED. UM I'M NOT GONNA READ THEM. I'M GONNA JUST PAUSE FOR 2030. SECONDS TO HAVE YOU READ EACH INDIVIDUAL ONE. WE HAVE A PROPOSITION. WE WOULD LIKE TO ADD ONE MORE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY. UM AND I WILL GO AND READ THIS ONE. IT'S PRETTY QUICK . UM, WHEREAS TEXAS HAS ONE OF THE HIGHEST TEEN PREGNANCY RATES IN THE US, WHEREAS THE CDC DATA SHOWS THAT PROTECTIVE SEXUAL BEHAVIORS UM WORSEN FROM 2011 TO 2021. WHERE IS THE CDC STATES THAT QUALITY SEXUAL HEALTH EDUCATION CURRICULUM THAT INCLUDES MEDICALLY ACCURATE, DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE AND CULTURALLY RELEVANT CONTENT AND SKILLS TARGETING KEY YOUR OUTCOMES. PROMOTE HEALTHY SEXUAL DEVELOPMENT CAN DELAY INITIATION OF SEXUAL INTERCOURSE HAVE FEWER SEX PARTNERS. FEWER EXPERIENCES UNPROTECTED SEX, INCREASE THEIR USE OF PROTECTION. SPECIFICALLY CONDOMS, KEEP STUDENTS FROM COMMITTING OR BEING VICTIMS OF VIOLENCE AND IMPROVE THEIR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE. THEREFORE THE SHACK ADVOCATES FOR THE ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SEXUAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND CURRICULUM THAT PROVIDE FOR A BROAD, COMPREHENSIVE AND AGE APPROPRIATE SEXUAL EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS IN ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL. SO THIS IS OUR PROPOSITION THAT WE ADD THIS ADDITIONAL LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY. AND WHAT IT WOULD LOOK LIKE. IS UM UNDER OUR LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES. THE PROPOSED IS ON THE VERY BOTTOM. WE ARE GOING TO SUPPORT THE ADOPTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF SEXUAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND CURRICULUM THAT PROVIDE FOR BROAD, COMPREHENSIVE AND AGE APPROPRIATE SEXUAL EDUCATION FOR STUDENTS IN ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL. DO I HAVE ANY THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS? YOU KNOW WHAT, KATHLEEN? WE HEAR RIGHT.
WE NEED A VOTE FIRST. WHAT IT MEANS. UM, BASICALLY, WE HAVE VETTED THE FORT BEND. ISD HAS VETTED SEX EDUCATION, AND WE'RE JUST SAYING THAT WE SUPPORT THE SEX EDUCATION CURRICULUM IN THE CLASSROOMS. IS THAT RIGHT? RAQUEL? YEAH. OK? OK, I SEE A COUPLE QUESTIONS. UM I JUST WANT TO CLARIFY THAT IS IT THE SAME THING THAT SEVENTH GRADERS DO, OR ARE WE ADDING ANYTHING TO THAT? NO. THE SEVENTH GRADE ALREADY HAS HEALTH EDUCATION CURRICULUM. AND SO IT'S JUST BASICALLY SAYING THE SHACK SUPPORTS THAT. WE? UH SO MY QUESTION WAS THAT LIKE, HOW
[01:20:05]
WOULD THIS PLAY INTO LIKE THOSE YOUNGER KIDS THAT WERE TARGETING LIKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLERS AND YOUNGER MIDDLE SCHOOLERS AND IF INSTEAD OF ADDING IT TO ALL GRADES, IF WE COULD MAYBE FO FOCUS ON THE PEOPLE THAT LIKE THIS MIGHT BE AFFECTING DIRECTLY LIKE MAYBE HIGH SCHOOLERS? THAT'S UNDERSTANDABLE, BUT I THINK MAYBE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLERS WE SHOULD DIVERT FROM BECAUSE THEY'RE YOUNGER AND LIKE, OBVIOUSLY, THEY'RE LIKE MORE PURE. OK AND I'LL I'LL TRY AND TAKE THIS AND I'LL DEFER TO LAURIE OR RAQUEL, WHO ARE MY MORE OF MY EXPERTS. FIFTH GRADERS, UM, ALREADY RECEIVE A LITTLE BIT OF PUBERTY, EDUCATION , AND THAT'S WHAT WE CONSIDER SEX EDUCATION. UM, SO THAT WOULD BE THE CURRICULUM GEARED TOWARD IT. SO IN ELEMENTARY WE PROVIDE, UM, HUMAN DEVELOPMENT. INSTRUCTION SO FOURTH GRADE GIRLS GET IT AND THEN 4TH AND 5TH GRADE. BOYS AND GIRLS GET IT. I GUESS MY WONDERING IS THIS IS SOMETHING I FEEL LIKE AS A DISTRICT WE HAVE IN PLACE. SO UM, WHEN WE'RE THINKING OF LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES AND GRAIL CAN PROBABLY CHIME IN. I KIND OF THINK MAYBE AS A SHACK. WE COULD SHOULD FOCUS ON THINGS THAT WE WANT TO BRING TO THE DISTRICT, NOT THINGS THAT WERE ALREADY DOING REALLY WELL. NOT THAT WE DON'T WANT TO HELP OTHER DISTRICTS. BUT JUST WONDERING A LOT OF OUR FOCUS IS USUALLY ARE FOCUSED ON WHAT WE WANT TO IMPROVE WITHIN OUR DISTRICT, SO I'M GONNA TURN IT OVER TO GRILL.HERE WE GO. YEAH. SO UM, THANK YOU FOR JUST, UM, CONSIDERING THE WORK OF THE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE IN ROLLING THIS UP, SO , UM, IT IT HAD COME UP IN OUR ADVOCACY SUBCOMITTEE MEETING THAT, GIVEN THE CURRENT LIST OF LEGISLATIVE PRIORITIES, WHY WASN'T THERE SOMETHING THAT ADDRESSED SEXUAL SEXUAL HEALTH AND SO WE WANTED TO BE A LITTLE BIT MORE RESPONSIVE TO THE INTEREST OF PARENTS TO MAKE SURE THAT SOMETHING WAS INCLUDED? AND SO WHEN WE TALK ABOUT WHAT IS GOING TO BE ON OUR LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY LIST IS BASICALLY TO EQUIP ANYONE IN SHAQ OR, UM, SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS THAT IF THERE'S LEGISLATION THAT COMES DOWN THE PIPE THAT WE ARE REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT IF WE RECOGNIZE IT AS A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY, WE CAN RESPOND TO IT. WE CAN RESPOND TO IT REGARDLESS, UM AS INDIVIDUALS, BUT IF WE ARE TO SAY AGAIN EQUIP OUR OUR SCHOOL BOARD WITH, UM YOU KNOW SOMETHING TO SAY AS A SHACK. THIS IS SOMETHING WE WANT YOU TO GET ENGAGED IN THE LEGISLATURE WITH IT'S HERE, SO IT'S THAT'S MORE OF THE PURPOSE BEHIND WHAT MAKES IT ON THE LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY LIST. THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR WORK, BECAUSE I DEFINITELY THINK I'M A HUGE ADVOCATE OF THIS KIND OF CURRICULUM. UH, MY WONDERING IS BECAUSE I WONDER MAYBE THAT WE COULD WORK ON THE PHRASING OF IT BECAUSE I THINK WHAT YOU'RE SAYING AND I DON'T KNOW IF Y'ALL KNOW, BUT IT IS NOT REQUIREMENT TO HAVE SEXUAL EDUCATION IN SCHOOLS. WE'RE NOT REQUIRED RIGHT AS A SCHOOL DISTRICT WE CHOOSE TO AND WE HAVE POLICY SAYS THAT WE WILL TEACH IT IN SEVENTH GRADE IN HIGH SCHOOL, SO WONDERING IF IT'S MORE ADVOCATING FOR POLICY DEVELOPMENT AROUND THE REQUIREMENT OF SEXUAL EDUCATION. IF YOU WANNA IF YOU WANNA TRY TO GO OUT TO SUPPORT THAT ASPECT WITH OTHER DISTRICTS. I KNOW I'M GONNA TURN IT OVER TO GROW. I THINK SHE WANTS TO SEE HIM. YEAH. SO THANK YOU. UM AND SO HERE'S WHAT HERE'S WHAT I'M WELL . HERE'S WHAT I THINK. I UNDERSTAND. I THINK THAT THE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE OF THE SHACK IS INTERESTED IN THIS TOPIC. I THINK EVEN THE SHAQ AS A WHOLE IS INTERESTED IN THIS TOPIC. UM BUT AS LAURIE SAID, WE'RE WE'RE OUR DISTRICT IS DOING THIS IN THE CLASSROOM AND DOING AND HAS THIS, AS HAS THE, UM, THE EDUCATION. COM COMPONENT ALREADY AS PART OF OUR ACTIVITIES, IF YOU WILL, PART OF AS PART OF THE CURRICULUM. SO I THINK THE CLARIFICATION IS. UH AND I'LL JUST GIVE IT TO YOU STRAIGHT. I DON'T THINK THAT THIS IS GOING TO GET TAKEN UP BY THE BOARD AS SOMETHING TO PURSUE IN MORE DETAIL OR TO CREATE A MANDATE IN STATE LAW. I DON'T THINK THAT'S A I ■DON'T THINK THAT'S A GOOD EFFORT FOR OUR SHAQ OR FOR THE ADVOCACY COMMITTEE TO TRY TO PURSUE THAT AS A MANDATE IN STATE LAW. I THINK OUR EFFORT IS BETTER PUT IN. LET'S KEEP TALKING ABOUT IT. LET'S KEEP REFINING OUR PRACTICES AS SOME AS SOME OF THE STUDENTS HAVE SUGGESTED, UM, MAKING SUGGESTIONS TO, UH TO THE CURRICULUM AND MAYBE MAKING SUGGESTIONS TO BOARD POLICY AROUND THE IMPLEMENTATION OR THE TOPICS COVERED OR THINGS LIKE THAT. I THINK IT'S NOT SO MUCH A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY AS IT MIGHT BE A COMMITTEE WORK. TASK FORCE
[01:25:04]
OR SOMETHING ALONG THOSE LINES. SO IF THAT IF THAT MAKES SENSE TO YOU. UM SO THERE IS NO NO ONE ON THE COMMITTEE IS ASKING FOR A MANDATE. OR ANYTHING OF THAT SORT. UM IT'S REALLY JUST TO SAY YOU KNOW IT. I IN FACT, I THINK WHAT REALLY MOTIVATED. THIS WAS WHAT HAPPENED IN THE LAST LEGISLATIVE SESSION AROUND, OPT IN, VERSUS OPT OUT. AND SO WHEN WE HEAR ABOUT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING, UM WE JUST WANT TO BE MORE RESPONSIVE AND GIVE REALLY A, UM, A MECHANISM FOR TRUSTEES TO HEAR THAT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT'S REALLY IMPORTANT TO US. NOT STATING A POSITION. BUT IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT COMES THROUGH THE LEGISLATURE, UM SHAQ FEELS LIKE THIS TOPIC IN ADDITION TO NUTRITION, IN ADDITION TO MENTAL HEALTH IN ADDITION TO PHYSICAL ACTIVITY WE'RE SAYING OR CHILD PERSPECTIVE. WE'RE VERY INTERESTED IN MONITORING WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE AND THERE ARE THINGS THAT ARE COMING THAT WE'RE CONCERNED ABOUT. UM, THIS IS IMPORTANT TO US. NO WORRIES. UM I WAS LISTENING TO EVERYTHING AND JUST KIND OF UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HAVING IT. ON THERE AS A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY, LIKE LAURIE SAID, VERSUS HAVING IT ON THERE ALMOST AS SORT OF A SAFEGUARD, GIVEN THE CURRENT CLIMATE AND ATTACKS KIND OF ON BASICALLY SEX EDUCATION THAT WE'VE WITNESSED, SO AND I'VE HEARD, POSSIBLY, UM, CHANGING SOME OF THE LANGUAGE AND A SUGGESTION MIGHT BE TO MAINTAIN, UM. IMPLEMENTATION OF SEXUAL EDUCATION PROGRAMS OR SAFEGUARD THE IMPLEMENTATION OF, YOU KNOW, SORT OF. BASICALLY WHAT WE WANT IS A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY TO DEFEND IF ANYTHING COMES DOWN THE PIPE TO BE AWARE AND SAY, WE DON'T WANT THIS TAKEN AWAY, SO MAKE IT A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY TO DEFEND IT. TO MAINTAIN TO SAFEGUARD SOMETHING LIKE THAT. DO YOU WANNA GO FOR A PROPOSAL AND THEN? DO YOU WANT ME TO? UM WE I THINK WE NEED TO VOTE ON A LEGISLATIVE PRIORITY BEFORE WE PRESENT TO THE BOARD. CORRECT. YEAH. SO, UM, THIS. IS OUR NEXT TO LAST MEETING. SHOULD WE VOTE TODAY? OKAY? OK SO SHAQ WILL LOOK AT THE EXECUTIVE TEAM WILL LOOK AT THE LANGUAGE AND BRING IT BACK TO AND IF WE HAVE A QUORUM, APRIL 10TH. THAT MEANS THAT WE NEED EVERYBODY PRESENT.UM WE'LL WE'LL TAKE A VOTE IN ORDER SO THAT WE CAN PRESENT TO THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES ON THE 22ND. SO OUR NEXT CHECK MEETING IS APRIL 10TH. WE TWEAK THE WORDING, BRING IT BACK FOR ANOTHER PROPOSAL AND THEN VOTE ON IT. APRIL 10TH DOES THAT SOUND GOOD? A YEAH, IT'S A PRETENDED EAT THERE, SO NO MUSLIMS WILL BE COMING. IT'S YEAH, BECAUSE ALL BECAUSE IT IS THERE ARE PEOPLE SAYING THIS IS OUR OK? SO IF YOU CELEBRATE EID, YOU WILL NOT PROBABLY BE IN ATTENDANCE. UM SO HOPEFULLY WE'LL HAVE ENOUGH PEOPLE THAT WE DEFINITELY WANT YOU TO.
CELEBRATE. UM, YOUR CUSTOM. OK ALL RIGHT. WELL, THANK YOU FOR THAT LIVELY DISCUSSION. UM I'M GONNA BRING UP LADONNA TO DISCUSS UPCOMING EVENTS. GOOD AFTERNOON. MY NAME IS LADONNA GREEN AND I WILL TALK TO YOU ABOUT THE UPCOMING EVENTS. SO MARCH 4TH THROUGH EIGHTH. WE'RE GONNA BE, UM, HAVING WATCH WEEK AND WATCH WEEK CELEBRATES CARDIOVASCULAR AWARENESS PROGRAM THAT EDUCATES OUR STUDENTS ABOUT HEART HEALTH. AND SO, UM, SOME OF THIS INFORMATION WAS SENT OUT TO THE SCHOOLS, AND IT'LL BE, UM THEY'LL HAVE DIFFERENT HEALTH OBSERVANCES THROUGHOUT THIS WEEK. UM. WE HAVE NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH THAT THEY WILL BE ON THE TABLE. UM, WOULD YOU LIKE TO COME UP AND SPEAK ABOUT IT? OR WOULD YOU WANT ME TO JUST OK? ALRIGHT, MISS SUSAN ARI IS COMING UP TO SPEAK ABOUT NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH. OK SO MARCH'S NATIONAL NUTRITION MONTH AND THE THEME IS ON THE TABLE. IF YOU GUYS WANNA SCAN THAT QR CODE UM ALL THIS INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN OUT TO YOU LATER THROUGH PEACH JAR AND PRINCIPAL NEWSLETTERS AND THINGS LIKE THAT , UM, THE SCHOOL. UH, THE QR CODE WILL LINK YOU TO OUR TOOLKIT. SO WE HAVE A LOT OF GOOD INF RESOURCES RECIPES. PRETTY MUCH EVERYTHING ABOUT NUTRITION. UM WE ALSO HAVE OUR ART CONTEST THAT'S GONNA BE IN THE MONTH OF MARCH. IT'S GONNA BE THROUGH THE 29TH. WE ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO GO ABOVE AND BEYOND, WITH THEIR CREATIVITY, AND, UH, WE WILL BE JUDGING THAT IN APRIL, SO WE REALLY WANT OUR STUDENTS TO GET INVOLVED WITH THAT. AND THEN WE
[01:30:04]
ALSO NEXT WEEK WILL BE NATIONAL SCHOOL BREAKFAST WEEK AND SO WE'RE GONNA HAVE SOME CELEBRATIONS AT THE SCHOOLS, AND THE THEME IS SURFS UP WITH SCHOOL AND BREAKFAST, SO WE HOPE EVERYBODY PARTICIPATES. ON MARCH 3RD THROUGH THE NINTH IS GONNA BE SCHOOL SOCIAL WORK WEEK. SO IF YOU KNOW A SOCIAL WORKER AT YOUR CAMPUS, MAKE SURE YOU GO UP TO THEM AND TELL THEM HOW MUCH YOU APPRECIATE THEM. UM COMING UP. WE'LL HAVE MILLION. MA. UM APRIL 10TH ANNIVERSARY OF MILLION MILE MONTH IS A VIRTUAL CHALLENGE TO COMPLETE COMPLETE 1 MILLION MILES OF PHYSICAL ACTIVITY TOGETHER AS ONE GLOBAL COMMUNITY. SO IF YOU LIKE TO REGISTER FOR ME, MOM, WE PUT THE CODE HERE AND I WILL BE PUTTING THE POWERPOINT ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE. I'M PROBABLY THIS AFTERNOON SO YOU CAN GO THERE AND REGISTER FOR A MILLION MILE A MONTH. UM, COMING UP. WE HAVE OUR STUDENT SUCCESS. WEBINAR MARCH 6TH THE NEXT ONE WILL BE FINANCIAL LITERACY. STUDENTS WILL LEARN THE ART OF BUDGETING SMARTLY HOW TO MANAGE CREDIT AND STRATEGIES FOR BUILDING STRONG FINANCIAL FOUNDATIONS THAT WILL EMPLOY THEM TO MAKE SMART FINANCIAL DECISIONS TO SECURE A STABLE FUTURE. SO THAT SHOULD BE A REALLY GOOD WEBINAR BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THAT 1 MARCH THE SIXTH FROM 6 P.M. TO 7 P.M. WAIT. OK, BEFORE WE GO ON TO THIS ONE. I ACTUALLY HAVE ONE MORE, UM, ITEM THAT WE NEEDED TO DISCUSS. UM I WANT TO GO IN AND BRING UP PARISH. UM, WHO IS ONE OF OUR DISTRICT STUDENT COALITION MEMBERS, AND HE HAS A REQUEST SO. ALL RIGHT. UH, THANK YOU. SO UH, AS WE ALL KNOW, UH, THE WHOLE CHILD HEALTH INITIATIVE WANTS TO HOLD A WHOLE CHILD HEALTH FAIR, UH, IN THE COMING FUTURE, AND SO FOR THAT, OBVIOUSLY, WE'RE GONNA NEED VENDORS THERE TO HOLD BOOTS. UH, WE WANT TO HAVE SESSIONS WHERE YOU KNOW, PEOPLE CAN COME AND PARTAKE IN CERTAIN ACTIVITIES THAT, UH, SESSION LEADERS WILL HOLD AND WE ALSO WANT TO HAVE GUEST SPEAKERS THERE AS WELL, UH, THAT CAN SPEAK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, UH, MENTAL HEALTH. SOCIAL HEALTH, PHYSICAL HEALTH AND NUTRITIONAL HEALTH, SO WE REALLY WANT TO ASK, UH, ALL OF THE SHACK MEMBERS AND JUST ANYONE. REALLY UH, TO HELP US FIND VENDORS AND, UH UH, SESSION LIKE MEMBERS, PEOPLE WHO CAN HOLD SESSIONS AND GUEST SPEAKERS THAT COULD BE THERE IN, UH, IN ORDER TO HELP US, UH, FACILITATE A BETTER FARE. UH, RIGHT NOW, WE'VE ALREADY HAD SOME IDEAS OF, YOU KNOW, MAYBE SOME, UH, YOGA FOR, LIKE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL HEALTH. UH, YOU KNOW, HAD IDEAS OF NUTRITION FOR NUTRITION. WE WERE THINKING, YOU KNOW, MAYBE HOLDING LIKE A HEALTHY EATING CLASS, UH, AS A SESSION, AND THERE WERE LIKE SO MANY OTHER IDEAS. UM I WILL BE SHARING IT LIKE A MISS SB WILL BE SHARING A DOCUMENT WITH MISS. UH DEL. ABOUT HOW, UH, LIKE WHAT WE WERE THINKING AND, UH, WHERE WE WANT TO GO WITH THE IDEAS OF VENDOR SESSIONS AND GUEST SPEAKERS. UM AND IF YOU HAVE ANY CONTACTS OR ANYONE YOU CAN REACH OUT TO LIKE ALREADY TODAY WE'VE MET, UH, A COUPLE OF GREAT PEOPLE. WE MET THE FORT BEND HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES. UH, WE ALSO MET, UH, THOSE WHO ARE RUNNING OUR FENTANYL EDUCATION. AND OBVIOUSLY, UH, THOSE ARE GREAT RESOURCES. WE WILL BE REACHING OUT TO THEM. BUT IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER RESOURCES, WHETHER IT COMES TO MENTAL, PHYSICAL, SOCIAL OR NUTRITIONAL HEALTH, WE WOULD REALLY LOVE. UH, FOR ANYONE TO, YOU KNOW, HELP US IN FINDING THESE, UH, GREAT OPPORTUNITIES. THANK YOU. OH, YES. UH DATE SET AS OF AS OF RIGHT NOW, UH, THAT, UH, I'M NOT SURE. UH, IT IS GOING TO UM ON SATURDAYS. THAT OK? IT WAS REALLY PREFER IT TO BE AFTERNOON. LIKE UM ON WEDNESDAY IN APRIL. WE'RE. I FEEL THAT THE DISTRICT ALREADY HAS STUDENT PLANS BUT THEN ALSO BUT NOW. 24.UM, WE HAVE TO DOUBLE CHECK THE CALENDAR FROM THE NOT LIKE A TEST WOULD GO OR, YOU KNOW.
YEAH. UH, NO. UH, WE WOULD PREFER LIKE, UH, WE HAVE NO COST VENDORS SO VENDORS THAT CAN COME AND VOLUNTEER THEIR TIME TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS FAIR? YES. RIGHT? YES. WE HAVE A. LIKE IN THE, UM YEAH, WE ARE A STUDENT IN THE VIRTUAL HEALTHY SCHOOLS. WE HAVE A VENDOR LIST. I'M NOT SURE IF IT'S UPDATED, RIGHT, BUT WE HAVE A VENDOR LIST WITH AT LEAST DIFFERENT. UM AREAS FOR YOU TO BEGIN THAT SORT OF OUTREACH IN THE DIFFERENT AREAS, RIGHT? UH, WE DO HAVE A VENDOR
[01:35:01]
LIST HERE, CORRECT. AND WE DEFINITELY ARE GONNA LOOK THROUGH THAT VENDOR LIST. BUT IF YOU HAVE ANY, LIKE ADDITIONAL IDEAS OF WHO TO BRING AND STUFF LIKE THAT, LIKE ALREADY WE'VE MET SOME GREAT PEOPLE HERE, UH, THAT ARE ADDITIONAL TO THAT VENDOR LIST. RIGHT UH, SO IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER PEOPLE IN MIND OR ANY OTHER, UH, ORGANIZATIONS IN MIND, THAT WOULD BE GREAT.RIGHT? SO THANK YOU SO MUCH. GOOD JOB STUDENTS. WE'RE SO GLAD THE STUDENTS ARE HERE. SO GLAD
[IV. Meeting in Closed Session]
THE STUDENTS ARE HERE, AND WE ONLY HAVE ABOUT EIGHT MINUTES TO, UM, GET THE STUDENTS INTO THEIR, UM, BREAKOUT ROOM IN A FEW MINUTES.
